About this villa rental
Coco House is a really lovely villa with a beautiful sea view. The villa is well placed for access to all four coasts ( it's easy to drive inland over the brow of the island to the East coast) and your closest beach is one of the most popular beaches on the island
( Alleyne's Bay is where the boats visit to swim with the turtles). We bought the house eight years ago after visiting friends in Barbados and renting various villas – it’s a great space for entertaining or just chilling out.
In the main house there are two large bedrooms (with en suite marble bathrooms - a shower and bath in the main bathroom, a walk in marble floored shower ensuite to the second bedroom) with French doors that lead onto the terrace and the good sized plunge pool and private garden (see pics). The second bedroom can easily house three single beds or a king size bed. The cottage, a stones' throw from the house, is automatically opened up for five or more guests or it can be opened for four guests or less for an additional fee. It has a double bed, marble bathroom (with shower) and kitchenette (fridge, kettle ).
There are two pools - the waterfall pool, which is a one minute walk from the house and the clubhouse pool , an infinity pool, which has a great view of the West coast and is a 2 min walk away from the house. Next to the pool is the club restaurant – a huge plus to Sugar Hill. If you’re too tired to cook you can call the club restaurant and they can sort out a takeaway or you can head down there for lunch or supper. We can also organise a cook for you. There is nothing nicer after a game of tennis or finishing yoga, sitting out at the bar at Sugar Hill, having a Gin and Tonic and watching the sunset! There are four floodlit championship tennis courts in the grounds, a fully equipped gym and yoga/pilates classes at the clubhouse.
The furniture is a mix of Asian, dark wood and white furnishings. Architecturally, it’s a lovely house. The high vaulted ceilings, plantation shutters and use of local coral stone and marble make it aesthetically a real pleasure to be in and to look at. The wide balcony juts out and looks out over a 180 degree view of the Caribbean Sea and sky – and because you’re up, not directly on the beach, you really get a panoramic view of the ocean and beautiful sunsets (see reviews). We're really fortunate having this uninterrupted view and it's one of the reasons we chose this particular house, within the Sugar Hill and Westmoreland Estates.
The beach, Alleyne's Bay, plus watersports is a two minute drive down the hill, or if you feel more energetic a fifteen minute walk. I'd almost go as far to say it's a must to rent a car in Barbados as the pubic transport system isn't as direct as it could be and there are a huge variety of things to do and see all over the island, they aren't in one localised place. There is never a problem parking, it's all very relaxed.
Also, being on the Sugar Hill estate means you have all the advantages of a hotel, without actually being in one. Sugar Hill is a 60 acre private estate with 24/7 security, which only really gets press when one of its higher profile owners is in town, apart from that it doesn’t self promote and it’s a very laid back place, with wonderful landscaped gardens. The gardeners keep if looking beautiful (lots of frangipani, coconut tress – if the trees in front of our house have ripe coconuts, the gardeners will happily cut some off for you for coconut water), security staff and gatemen mean if you have children you will really feel at ease letting them wander off to their tennis or swimming lessons by themselves. The staff are friendly and helpful – the ladies at reception/concierge at the club house (again, a beautiful, large plantation style house made out of coral, marble and deep mahogany floors) will happily help organise your holiday for you, whether it’s a question of booking taxis, restaurants, turtle watching boat trips, riding or surfing. Our property manager and I can also help with recommendations of places to go, car rental and things to do.
Sugar Hill is close to the busyness of Holetown (5 mins drive) and the shabby chic of Speightstown (10 mins drive). Holetown, apart from all the normal amenities you need, has the celeb hangout Second Street where you can party the night away and the state of the art Limegrove cinema and lifestyle mall for glitzy, duty-free shopping, cafes, good restaurants and the cool Lime cocktail bar which is buzzing on a Friday night. Speightstown has small, tucked away restaurants where you can watch classic black and white movies on the beach and enjoy a quiet more laid back evening, The Orange Street Grocer is one of our favourites for lunch. Fish markets are close by at Paynes Bay and Speightstown.
If you feel like some pampering and visiting a bit of Barbados old glamour, the grande dame, The Sandy Lane is a five to ten minute drive away. The Spa at the Sandy Lane is considered the best on the island (I've been there and it's a real treat!) and the golf course is one of the best. The Cliff, Apes Hill and the polo fields are also all close by.
If you feel like visiting the other coasts, it’s a easy trip to the wilder, Atlantic side (you go over the highlands from Sugar Hill), it takes about forty minutes to the surfer’s go to, Bathsheba. Boogie boarding at The Crane is again, down the Highway, about 40 mins away. FYI all beaches are public in Barbados.
I hope that gives you a flavour of it. There are a huge variety of things to do and places to visit, whether you’re a couple or family. If you'd like any further info, please feel free to email or message me.
P.S Our house manager can arrange groceries for you before your arrival. She can also organise a cook and give you details of babysitters etc if required. Our house manager keeps things ticking along in the house and ensures the house is ready for your arrival. We have a housekeeper who comes in once per week.

It is the perfect beach house. It's full of charm and was close to everything. The restaurant hours at the resort were a little strange, but there are so many wonderful restaurants near by that it didn't matter. I would definitely recommend the property. Tip.. the doors open british style..lol..

First class and delightful. Everything you need to enjoy your stay on this beautiful Island. Sue the owner, Marcia the property Manager and Luceen the Housekeeper do everything to ensure your stay is both hugely enjoyable and trouble free. I cannot recommend a stay too highly. 5 Star!!!!!

Everything about this house was perfect from beginning to end. In the weeks leading up to our trip, the owner Sue and property manager Marcia were super helpful in providing info on the local area, helping with car hire and even doing a grocery shop for us to get us through the first 24 hours of our stay.
Our three young children loved the plunge pool and the birds joining us for breakfast on the balcony each morning - as well as the regular monkey spotting. The games and DVDs were a godsend in the the evenings while the adults had cocktails on the veranda and took in the amazing views - something for everyone.
We hired a car and explored the island extensively and in our opinion the villa is in the best location and only a ten minute walk from our favourite bay - Alleynes - with great amenities and beach restaurants. We worked our way through most of the restaurant and activity suggestions given by Sue and loved everything.
Sugar Hill is a great estate with friendly security and great pools. We visited a little out of season so the pool restaurant was only open for a few days each week but it served great food and had lovely views.
I definitely hope to return in the future!

Lovely week at Sugar Hill
My family of 5 enjoyed our stay at Sugar Hill. Both Susan (owner) and Marcia (property manager) were very helpful in the planning process so we had airport transportation, car rental and initial grocery list taken care of prior to arrival. The Sugar Hill property is lovely and we appreciated the security and the staff at the clubhouse. We all enjoyed the Infinity Pool and the Calabaza restaurant was an added bonus.
The house is well kept and we appreciated the A/C in the bedrooms and the verandah was lovely in the evenings. We were under 5 minutes from our favorite beach (Alleyne's bay and JuJu's beach bar) and all that Holetown has to offer with fantastic restaurants, shopping, market.
There were a few minor things that would have made our stay an overall 5-star and I plan to communicate with the owner about providing extra towels, blackout shades in bedroom, etc.

Beautiful, spacious property in peaceful Sugar Hill
We were 4 generations of our family visiting Barbados and Coco House was perfect. It is incredibly spacious, well appointed and perfectly positioned for exploring the West Coast and further afield. We loved the tranquility of Sugar Hill, whilst being moments away from the action. Communication before and during our holiday was always very prompt and Susie and Marcia were incredibly helpful with great suggestions for enjoying the island. Thanks so much for a great stay!

We (family of 4 - kids 14 and 11) had a wonderful 12 days at CoCo House. The property itself is well laid out - the highlight being the balcony that stretches across front of unit and has beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea. A vehicle is a must - but with one you can easily get to anywhere on the island. Local beach (Alleynes) is awesome - right next to Fairmont Hotel and a variety of beach bars. Crane Beach is about 40 mins (kids fave for wave fun). Gibbs and Mullins are maybe 10 mins away. Holetown (and groceries) are 5 mins...Speightstown is 10 mins. We'd wake up slow - head out for day - get home for sunsets and Dark & Stormies. Really felt like home away from home. Sue (owner) was very responsive and helpful - gave us all kinds of great tips to enjoy our stay. We'll definitely back!!

After four days of horrendously expensive though very mediocre hotel life, on St James coast our arrival at
Coco House was more than a welcome surprise! For a start everything more than met and even exceeded the owners' website description. As experienced travellers, we know how rare this is. Sugar Hill itself is immaculately maintained - the tropical gardens, the lovely colonial clubhouse, the two pools, tennis court...having Spagos, a west coast restaurant proving dining at the Club House was indeed a bonus. My 76 yr old husband ventured to the gym again while I found the Spago martgarita more than met my exacting standards! As for Coco House itself, the decor is lovely and Margaret the housekeeper is a dream and made life so easy for us. And as for the view form the enormous verandah, wow! That alone made us happy we had chosen the house instead of an apartment we looked at. Thank you for a magical stay, we will be returning soon with our grandchildren.

Glorious Villa!
We spent a glorious week at Coco House on the gated Sugar Hill Estate with our two young sons (8 and 5yrs). The Estate is beautifully looked after with brilliant staff and a club house with a great restaurant- equally good for adults and kids (fab pizza). There are two lovely pools and everything is surrounded by manicured lawns and gorgeous flowers. The villa surpassed our expectations- calming Asian decor - spacious and relaxing with a balcony that spans the house overlooking the ocean. It was so lovely to sip cocktails on the balcony watching the sun set. The bedrooms were perfect too and the kids loved their walk-in marble shower. The plunge pool in the garden was also a winner with the kids and kept them happy for hours. The house manager was brilliant, making our stay so relaxing - organizing everything from car hire, shopping to baby-sitting. The house-keeper cleaned and tidied and washed and ironed our clothes - So I really got to relax! With a fantastic beach just down the road and some brilliant restaurants close by, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay! Highly recommended!!

Coco House - A taste of paradise!
We stayed in the delightful Coco House in August 2013 for two weeks and I must say we all had an absolutely fantastic time. The house itself has a really welcoming feel to it, with an outstanding outdoor terrace with views of the lovely surrounding area and the sea. So relaxing at the end of the day! Just sit and look out (with a cocktail!) and admire the view.
We had hired a car, so visiting the whole island was no problem at all, and we went several times to Bridgetown and the exciting beaches (and waves) to the east of the island. We especially loved the quiet coves you can find by exploring the northern tip of the island. Our son (aged 9 years old) adored the whole holiday and loved sailing (at an excellent sailing club) and swimming in the beautiful large clubhouse "infinity" pool with its stunning views. There is a nice atmosphere there and we met some lovely people at the pool, although it is so spacious there that you can always find a quiet corner if you want to have a snooze! It never gets really busy. You can have delicious food and drinks at the restaurant there (lunchtime snacks or evening meals!). Really welcoming staff, who are all extremely helpful. Tennis courts are also available and we enjoyed playing in the late afternoon when it was a little cooler. A short drive takes you down to a wonderful sandy beach (the lovely Lone Star restaurant which is on the beach at the water's edge!) and swimming with the many beautiful turtles just off the shore was a highlight of the trip. I cannot recommend Coco House highly enough. We'll definitely soon be back and it was very hard to say goodbye to the house and the whole Sugar Hill Resort. A wonderful holiday address - 5 stars!!

Gorgeous, safe and great for families with teenagers
My husband and I with our 17 year old teenager and her best friend stayed here in March for 2 weeks. The accommodations were great, the view outstanding. The pool at the ClubHouse was a 2 minute walk and was pristine -- an infiinity pool overlooking the ocean from afar. We almost always had it to ourselves.
The restaurant at the ClubHouse probably had the best food on the Island and we tried a lot of restaurants. You definately need a carand we got a soft-top jeep which was fairly tight for 4 people, but we made it work. Sue, the owner, was very accommodating with some last minute changes. Our teenage girls spent a lot of time at St. Lawrence Gap which is an expensive cab ride $60 U.S. one way... but they thoroughly enjoyed their late nites out and felt very safe in Barbados. The staff at Sugar Hills were very accommodating. Margaret the housekeeper was a pleasure, cleaned, folded and ironed our laundry -- what a treat. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us -- we hope to come again one day.

COCO HOUSE - SUGAR HILL - BARBADOS
I imagine that the names above conjure up peace and warmth. I could write many things about Coco House, Sugar Hill and Barbados, but the words "peace and warmth" best sum up it up. From the time that we all arrived, we felt at ease. Five of us stayed in the property, including the detached cottage. This worked out perfectly for all of us.
The space and tranquility of this property is what I liked. I would often sit early in the morning to watch the sun rise and again, in the evening, watch it set. The views from the Coco House balcony never got old and I am sure that they never will. . My parents and my friends loved eating outside on the balcony and enjoying the peace and warmth of Coco House, Sugar Hill and Barbados.
Coco House is just a two minute walk to the clubhoiuse. The swimming pool is absolutely stunning with views out to the sea once again. It was actually very nice to be positioned away from the actual beach front. Being able to retreat and look over the lush landscape of Barbados from Coco House itself was a lovely feature for all of us.
We all felt as though we were on holiday, but at home. The housekeeping service provided is fantastic. Margaret ( the housekeeper ) who comes over twice per week( and three days if required ) was of great assistance. She cooked twice pe week with the food being delicious. Laundry was also done and this service was excellent. We all tend to take too much luggae on holiday. Pack light and avoid large additional baggage charges.
Renting A car - Places To Go :- Discover the hidden jewels of the island. The main office will sort out the car for you. All beaches are public beaches so explore. Travel to the more rugged East Coast and feel the island change. Stop at The Roundhouse Restaurant and take in the views. Then travel a little further and take lunch at The Atlantis Hotel ( a must ). Take a visit to St Nicholas Abbey and take a step back in time.
On the Way Home :- Stop at Ramshakles Bar and take in the sunset ( just 3-4 mniutes from Coco House ). Just next door to this bar is Lonestar. If you want a top rate lunch, right on the ocean, then book here. ( Wonderful ).
On Sunday evening, take in some Karaoke in Holetown and sample the local culture !! Very amusing indeed.
Kids can play board games once home, and adults can use the Wi Fi if required.
Some places will draw you back. Barbados and Coco House is one of them.

Heavenly place
We stayed at Coco House in August 2011 and had the most blissful time. It was even more beautiful than it had looked in the pictures and we couldn't have been happier when we arrived. It was such a romantic place with it's gorgeous colonial feel. It had everything we needed and was so perfectly positioned for the great beaches and restaurants. We loved sitting out on the balcony for breakfast or pre dinner drinks, feeling completely secluded and looking out over the stunning panoramic view. After which we would lounge around in the private garden and pool. There was a feeling of decadence and complete luxury with the crisp white bed linen and enormous sofas with beautiful polished wooden furniture. At the same time it felt very relaxed. In fact we felt so at home that it was incredibly hard to leave at the end of our stay.I would recommend Coco House to anyone who is looking for a really romantic place to stay or a family holiday where you have all your own space and lots to do. We would love to come back with our two children as it would be a perfect holiday for them. We discovered so many beautiful beaches where we snorkelled, swam with turtles, water skied and drank rum punch while watching the sunset. We will never forget our time at Coco House and definitely want to come back!

Amazing Coco House
Barbados is a truly tropical paradise and Coco House is in nestled in the heart of it, close to the best beaches in the world. Coco House is elegant, airy and spacious with french doors that open to our favourite place, the expansive verandah with the most breathtaking ocean views. Located close to the main club house, Coco House is within walking distance of the infinity pool, gym and Sassafraz retaurant. The vacation was more than we had anticipated and we cannot wait to visit again.
When my daughter was asked to participate in this review she enthusiastically suggested calling it the 'Amazing Coco House'. Lifetime memories were made swimming in the plunge pool, swinging in the hammock and hours of card games at the dining table on the verandah!

I miss it already...
Our family (Mom, Dad, boy 13 and girl 11) stayed at Coco House for two weeks in February 2011. Before deciding to rent, we researched the island and the various beaches and settled on the West coast for its snorkeling opportunities and Sugar Hill for the residential community and proximity to Holetown. Sue was very helpful and responsive to all questions and I can say that we are convinced we made the right choice.
When we arrived, on the advice of Altman, we took a taxi to Coco House. There was no wait for a cab as there was a line-up of drivers ouside the airport. Our car had been arranged for us in advance and was waiting at the house. The cab fare is set by location and without knowing the roads (which are not well-marked), this was good advice.
The house is arranged with the two bedrooms downstairs with ensuites, each opening with patio doors to the garden and plunge pool; upstairs are the kitchen, a third bathroom, sitting areas and deck where the dining table is located. Everything was spotless but not sterile (books, games, balls and boogie boards for use.)
Sue had left a booklet with recommendations on things to do and places to eat which was much appreciated. Sugar Hill is up a narrow winding road off the main road that runs between Holetown and Speightstown. I could jog down the hill to the beach by the Colony Club in about 7 minutes but didn't attempt the run up. It was about a 15 min. brisk walk back up. When you get down the hill to the main road, Holetown is 1 km to your left (South) and Speightstown is 4 km to your right (North) so the location was exceptionally convenient.
We were able to take in the Holetown Festival while we were there and ate at a number of restaurants. Sugar Hill itself boasts Sassafras, where we had one of our favourite meals. For quick and easy, you can't beat "Just Grillin'" in Holetown (they even have frequent buyer cards where every 10th meal is free) and the Elbow Room where you grill your own meat on hot lava stones at the table.
While you could limit yourself to the west coast, we were glad we rented a car as we traveled from the Northernmost point (go to the underground caves with the anemones) to the east in Bathsheba where we were inspired by the surfers; to the south (tried surfing with Barry's Surf School) and southeast (Crane Beach and boogie boarding at Rockley).
I'd definitely recommend (and have recommended) Coco House to friends.

Wonderful property : Joyce (Toronto/Canada)
We just returned from 10 days at Coco House. The house is beautiful, clean and the balcony view - where we spent every morning and most evenings - was incredible. When you first arrive, all you can say is Wow! Bathrooms were beautiful, clean and the quality linens in the bath and bedroom were greatly appreciated. The kitchen is fully equipped and a small supply of basic food items was in the fridge waiting for us. (Bread, butter, eggs, milk) There was a cooler back pack in the kitchen that we took to the beach almost every day. The house is about 5 minutes by car from the beach (and you really need a car). The grocery store is about 10 minutes away by car. There are also two beautiful pools on the property as well as tennis courts and a plunge pool right off your patio. The owner Sue was incredibly helpful by email and also left notes at the house with restaurant reviews and a list of tourist attractions. I can't say enough about the accomodations. We've used VRBO in three locations in Hawaii, so with the attached review and pics we felt very comfortable renting this property. Kirk from the property managers (Altman) arranged for our car and everything was well taken care of. The concierge service on the property helped us book our excursions. Highly recommend "Cool Runnings" catamaran or "Wasn't Me" with Captain Ron for great sailing and snorkeling trips. Swimming with turtles in the ocean was one of the best parts of our holiday. Also try to book the Aerial Trek zipline - great experience.(finding the location was the hardest part as most of the island roads have no signs and maps don't help.) Anyway - that's part of the adventure. Don't hesitate to book this rental - the owner and the accomodations are wonderful. This location would be great for families or couples (50's-+) The property is very quiet and if you want night life you have to drive off the property in the evenings. We are very active 55+ and this was paradise!

Charm Personified.....
My partner and I spent a truly restful and relaxing week at Coco House and words can't duly express the wonderful time we had there.
The location is perfect, the views are breath taking and Margaret the housekeeper was an absolute gem with incredible home cooking skills that just made our stay all the more relaxing.
The house is beautiful. It is tastefully decorated and is full of charm. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and we just wished we could have stayed months longer! Sue the owner
was very helpful and responsive and ensured we had a good time. Sue - thank you and we will be back!
