We absolutely loved our stay here. The hotel was exceptional, the room was beautiful and the view from the restaurant was breathtaking.

Great views over Matera. Great room. Lovely staff.
Everything was excellent

The location is fantastic and the views from the restaurant/terrace are stunning. The staff was very nice and the rooms were good. We had 2 rooms and they were both nice but we got the last 2 available so weren't able to stay in one of the cave rooms which probably would have been more unique. We were only here for a night but enjoyed our stay.
We had dinner at the restaurant on the property. The view of the Sassi was incredible but the food was so-so. The options are pretty limited and are more like small plates/tapas than actual dinner. I would recommend coming for a drink and enjoying the sunset but would go elsewhere for dinner if I had it to do over again.
Unfortunately the air conditioning wasn't working properly in one of our rooms so it got a bit warm.

Everything! such a special and unique stay, the view was amazing too. We have travelled around Puglia region for a week now and Palazzo Degli Abati has the best breakfast. Great communication from staff on how best to reach the property as it is located in Sassi ZTL.

the hair dryer was hard to use; you had to keep your thumb on the button to make it work.

This is a wonderful place to stay. our rom was awesome. Staff are helpful, friendly, supportive and knowledgeable…the palazzo is built into the ancient Matera caves,… you feel connected to your environment.. superb!

Beautiful hotel in one of the most spectacular locations in the town. Views from the hotel were stunning, especially from the restaurant/bar upstairs. The family running the place was so kind. I had a bad accident in Matera due to a fall and they went above and beyond to help us during the slightly challenging time - including personally picking us up late at night from the ER because taxi service was not available. A big thanks to Antonella and her mom for the hospitality and kindness.

The room was large and the bed comfortable, and the bathroom adequate. Considering that everything had to be carved out of rock, it was impressive. The breakfast buffet was fine. I was blown away by the fact that after I asked the receptionist if a multi-plug on the desk was also a converter (it wasn't), a converter was left in our room. 🙂 Both receptionists with whom we dealt were extremely helpful about giving us restaurant suggestions and mapping out a walking tour of the historic area. Finally, an aperol spritz on the patio at sunset overlooking the old city is a great way to end a day in Matera. We loved our time at this wonderful hotel.
Be prepared for the fact that the room has no windows, but given that the hotel is carved into the rock, it's a nit and part of the experience.

Location was amazing with a fabulous restaurant to enjoy the spectacular views of Matera
Did not replace tea bags or coffee satchets each morning

Location was excellent and very fun to be in the Sassi. Nice room
Be aware the luggage cannot be taken to the hotel by car! It’s about 400 meters from the parking lot to the hotel and there are many stairs. I would have handle luggage differently if I had known.

The location, staff and room were all incredible
We had trouble finding it but the receptionist guided us on the phone, making sure we arrived

The view was truly amazing! Our cave was quite roomy and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was good.
There were several things that concerned us. The automatic lights in the bathroom were quite annoying as they were very bright and woke us up. Also I thought for a high end hotel that they could’ve supplied us with more than just one bottle of water on arrival. I would’ve thought that every day they would provide us with a new bottle of water given it was very warm. The shower was also a concern. If you put it on full it flooded the bathroom because it was orientated towards the opening rather than the screen. We managed to find a free park but to be honest it would’ve been very nice for them to have a little buggy to bring our luggage down from a carpark. I would have rather paid a little bit more money for a better service. While it is true that there was an option for a transfer from our car to the hotel for €25 a day, I would’ve thought that it would be possible to arrange something much better price. Even a luggage drop off Service.

This property is amazing, with views from Matera to die for. We had the cave room which was incredible, large modern and ultra comfortable. I have no words to express how good it is. But on top of the incredible high quality of this property is the quality of their service. They went out of their way to help and find us a tour and to make sure we had everything we wanted. We felt like we where a high value customer in the Ritz in London. If I could I would give it 6 stars at least. Thanks so much

exceptional room and location with great staff. Lovely bar and incredible view.

The view of Matera from the hotel was just absolutely breathtaking. The location couldn’t have been better. It was even better than each room you stayed in had it’s own little story and the fact you were staying in a cave just made it a unique experience. The team there was also absolutely helpful with directions, suggestions and helping us out with an unexpected upgrade when the aircon in our first room wasn’t working.
A fridge was missing in the newest room in the hotel.

Very friendly staff and unique location, which creates a beautiful experience
