Beautiful place. Kind and helpful hosts. Authentic. Cozy.

The hosts (owners) were so helpful, kind, and available for us. We were able to have dinner late in the evening even though the kitchen was already closing. The place itself is lovely, in the middle of nature, yet cozy and comfortable. We had breakfast every morning by the pool and hearing the birds sing. The room was clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Not much to dislike! The location is a bit remote but if you have a car it’s easy to find and near all the volcano areas.

Excellent customer service with a beautiful view of nature.

I didn’t like that there was no mini fridge in the room to keep drinks. There was a communal fridge by the pool, but that’s less convenient.

beautiful, peaceful, homey

Giovanni and Luis were so kind and welcoming to us. San Rafael Ecolodge is clearly a labor of love, and they put care into every decision they’ve made, from the lush gardens to the thoughtfully appointed decks and verandas. you can always find a peaceful spot. They also make beautiful Costa Rican meals- breakfast and lunch is on the patio and you can hear the cacophony of creatures at dawn and dusk. just during dinner my son and I saw many birds including hummingbirds visiting the potted flowers next to us, a tiny gecko, and bats. when we had an early tour and I was worried about getting a coffee (my only vice! without it I get a migraine), Luis got up at 5:30 and made me a thermos of hot coffee!! I was so surprised and grateful. it was a lovely stay that we will always remember.

Giovani and his team are so welcoming, kind and accommodating. The place is clean and in a tranquil environment.

If you stay here, it's recommended that you have a car. It may seem obvious, but it wasn't for me. 😂 I was able to take a bus into town and ubers home, but the cost adds up quickly.

Giovanni and Luis were extremely responsive, helpful, welcoming, and friendly.

My husband, son, and I stayed at the San Raphael Ecolodge several nights during our winter holiday. From multiple perspectives, our experience was excellent and enjoyable. The hosts - Giovanni and Luis - were both efficient and knowledgeable in helping us choose and organize local daytrips to areas of interest; they also reliably arranged transportation, since we chose not to rent a vehicle during our stay. In the mornings before our excursions and in the evenings after our return, they fed us graciously from their varied and delicious menu. The setting & arrangement of the ecolodge made for a tropical paradise, with comfortable accommodations situated in a beautiful and tranquil forest, a stream, and a swimming pool integrated into the outdoor lounge area.

The best part of my stay was the hospitality and friendliness of both Giovanni and Luis who were warm and welcoming to all their guests. The meals were fine and important to me since I did not have a car and there were few options locally within walking distance.My hosts really tried hard to make their lodge a success and I believe they succeeded.I would most definitely recommend this place to other travelers. quite nice place to stay near fortuna

Great service. Really lovely hosts!! We took the a la cart dinner 3times, and it was very tasty, excellent. It's about 25-30min to Fortuna, by car. The garden and the pool are nice.

Food at the hotel restaurant was amazing, the staff was very friendly and supportive and the room was really comfortable. Besides, the relationship price-value is great. Finally, the fact the the restaurant is in the middle of the forest makes this place unique.

We stayed a week and wish it was longer in this fabulous home base to explore central Costa Rica!

We stayed a week and wish it was longer! The people here made this one of our favorite family vacations. There was so much to do in the area (hiking, sloths, hot springs, volcano, rain forest etc). The food at the hotel was wonderful! Loved the breakfasts with fresh fruit and juices. Everything was made from scratch. We are vegetarian and they had no trouble accommodating us. They checked daily to see what time we wanted to eat. My college age kids didn't want to eat anywhere else. Coffee was fabulous! Luis is a wonderful chef! Giovanni is extremely nice and made us feel at home. He helped us plan our activities and booked several things for us. All of his recommendations were spot on. My kids enjoyed the pool and the excellent wifi.

We are so happy we booked at the EcoLodge over Christmas. The owners are super helpful, and accomodating, the meals were delicious, and the property is gorgeous. The rooms are in a lovely bit of jungle with waterfalls. It is very peaceful and the owners helped us arrange transport and a trip to the hotsprings. For the more adventurous, it is possible to take the bus to La Fortuna and back. The new fiberoptic wifi is incredible.

The kitchen area in the room is not very useful. It could be replaced with a table or more seating.

it was perfect and staff were excellent.

it was easy to find. the restaurant was open and food was excellent! staff were very helpful. and of course pool was great.

can’t think of anything. I’d say hot water may be was a bit on and off but we didn’t need hot water since the water in the shower was the perfect temperature since it was hot outside .

Staff was amazing! So accommodating waiting for us, cooking us a delicious breakfast & making coffee (included). The villas were so cute and secluded from other guests, you just have to know these are villas not a resort stay.

There is no AC so guest should be aware but the ceiling fans and windows open to help as it cools down at night. The pillows were pretty flat & there is a lot of outside noise so hard to sleep at times. It is off the beaten path but you really are surrounded by jungle.

Perfect!!

Our stay at the San Rafael ecolodge was absolutely FANTASTIC! I cannot even begin to describe how much we enjoyed ourselves. Giovanni and Luis were so, so kind and accomodating, they constantly went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for us. They helped us book activities and taught us so much about the area and the culture. We came with 6 kids and stayed in two villas, they were perfect for us. Waking up to the sounds of nature in the magnificent surrounding rainforest was unforgettable. The lodge is close to all of the attractions around La Fortuna and it was easy to find our way around. The grounds of the lodge are magnificent, and the kids loved looking for creatures in the forest and streams surrounding the cabins.

Go for it, it is a great experience

Customer service was great. Perhaps better than any other hotel I've been to. Food was great, with plenty of options to choose from. They can even adjust the breakfast so you don't have the same every day. Room was confy, beds and pilllows were great too. Room had a kitchen but did not use it. This hotel gives you opportunity to get some real rest, it is not noisy and the pool is nice. It has a yoga area and some couches to read. The internet was being replaced by fiber optic while I was there. Traditional coaxial allowed to work and watch videos during the day, lagging at night (fiber should fix that). I would definitely come back.

overall, it was an outstanding experience and stay. We will definitely visit the place again in future.

Beautiful location, nice and clean. Got amazing service from Luis the chef and from the owner Giovanni. We had no issues with meals and breakfast despite being vegetarian. It was an awesome experience overall and as a matter of fact, we might go back to spend a couple of more days. My wife and daughter both fell in love with the place.

Great stay!

Best night sleep we had in Costa Rica. Area is quiet and has a nice garden / patio to sit. We chose to stay here in stead of La Fortuna which is more touristic. Pool is nice and cold after a warm day. Luis made sure we had everything we could of needed. Breakfast was great!! Had some nice dinners at a soda and there’s a great pizza place nearby. For us it was a excellent stay at the end of our Costa Rica trip.

Food menu could be less American.
