About this cottage rental

Roseleigh Cottage is a charming period stone cottage recently renovated, situated in a quiet street in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold with off road parking for two cars.

This large property is totally enclosed by Cotswold stone walls and has a garden with a patio and parking for two cars. All the rooms, except one, look out over the garden and are decorated in Cath Kidston / Laura Ashley themes with exposed Cotswold stone in many places, and traditional, dark oak furniture.

The accommodation sleeps up to nine people with 2 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms and a small single bedroom and gas central heating.

Having been recently re-furbished, there is a new kitchen, bathroom and 2 en-suite shower rooms. The decoration throughout is modern in style but the furniture itself is period design to give the cottage an authentic feel.

The Ground Floor contains a Lounge, Dining Room, Kitchen, and Ground Floor Double Bedroom with en-suite shower room. The front door leads into the Dining Hall with flags on the floor, a large oak table and chairs seating nine people, a stone fireplace, small sofa and TV.

The cosy Lounge has an exposed Cotswold stone wall, three sofas, a small stone fireplace with electric “wood burning” stove and a TV.

The kitchen, also with Cotswold stone, has oak units, a stone floor, butler sink, retro fridge freezer, oven, hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer and under floor heating.

The ground floor double bedroom has feature stone quoins, a stone floor and under floor heating with further stone tiles in the shower room (with small basin and toilet.)

All the other bedrooms and the bathroom are on the first floor and accessed from the landing.

The master bedroom has a huge Cotswold stone wall behind the King size bed, oak chests of drawers , wardrobe , TV, and an en-suite shower room with a small basin and toilet and looks over the garden.

The two twin bedded rooms also overlook the garden. They have a Victorian feel to them with original cast iron fireplaces, dark wood floors and dark oak furniture. The small single room looks to the side over a small fire station (very quiet and little used!) and has oak furniture and a small bay window.

The garden lies in front of the house surrounded by high Cotswold dry stone walls. There is a patio with 2 tables and seating for 9, an area of lawn and a long stone path leading to the front gate and parking area.

Whilst we accept well behaved dogs for an additional cost of £50 per pet, per week or per short break stay, please contact us to check if you wish to take more than one dog.

We do not accept a short break during the Christmas week but do accept a 3 or 4 night short break over the New Year.

AROUND THE LOCAL AREA.
Stow-on-the-Wold is wonderfully different from other local towns in that it is built around a Market Square which boasts an ancient cross, 15th Century parish church and fascinating old buildings. One of the oldest houses, the 'Crooked House' on the west side of the Square, was built about 1450. There are stocks on the green dating back to the 15th century.

For eating out, Stow offers a broad range, from informal tea shops, brasseries, bistros, through to excellent restaurants - not forgetting delicious food in relaxed pub surroundings. The Kings Arms is a good example of a coaching inn where the main entrance was through the arch leading to the stables. Apparently, Charles I stayed here about the time of the Battle of Naseby in 1645.
On Digbeth Street stands the Royalist Hotel, said to be the oldest inn in England and they say there has been an inn stood on this same site since 947AD.

Stow boasts an exciting array of antique and gift shops, clothes and shoe shops, bakery, butcher, organic shop, delicatessens, small late shop, a TARDIS-like cook shop, electrical supplies shop, wine merchant, pharmacy, 24-hour supermarket and my personal favourite, the Chocolate Shop, where you can see the chocolates being made!

A short stroll along Well Lane will lead you to the Roman Well - small but well worth a visit for history lovers.

How to get there – Approximately 80 minutes by train from London Paddington station into Kingham station (5 miles from Stow) or 90 minutes to Moreton-in-Marsh station (4.1/2 miles from Stow). Approx 90 minutes from London Heathrow Airport by car. Approx 1 hour from Birmingham Airport.
As well as rail links, Stow has a good bus service to nearby towns and villages.
Stow is only 20 minutes by car from Shakespeare's Stratford, 25 mins from the elegant Regency Spa town of Cheltenham, 30 mins from Oxford and 1 hr from Bath.

Other approximate distances to other local towns and places of interest: Along with Moreton-in-Marsh and Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow is one of the best known of the small Cotswold towns.
3 miles to Lower Slaughter.
4 miles to Bourton-on-the-Water.
9.5 miles to Snowshill (inc. Manor).
9 miles to Chipping Norton.
10 miles to Burford and Chipping Campden.
9 miles to Broadway Tower (11.5 to Broadway centre).
6 miles to Batsford Arboretum.
13 miles to Chedworth Roman Villa.

Great stay!
Everything at the property was excellent! Well provisioned and location was fantastic, close to the town and a convenient base for exploring. We didn't have a need to contact the property manager on any occasion, such was the smoothness of the booking and property.

The cottage is just as described. The rooms are small, as expected in a cottage but well appointed. The kitchen is modern and very well equipped.

Excellent location and fabulous cottage
We had a wonderful week at Roseleigh Cottage. We took two dogs with us who loved the garden and our 16month old enjoyed running around the garden too. The cottage was in an ideal location and close to pubs and shops in Stow on the Wold. We would highly recommend it!

our stay at Roseleigh Cottage August 2018
We really enjoyed our stay at your Cottage. We found the central position in Stow on the Wold really great as a base for the rest of the area. The cottage had everything we needed as a family of parents, Grandparents and 4 children aged 6 , 10 and 13yrs. Grandparents in the downstairs room and shower would have liked a grab rail in the shower. The lounge was a little small for 8 people, but overall it was clean and comfy.
