My favourite part was the beautiful garden full of lovely trees, plants and birdsong as well as the pool which was a great way to cool off. I also loved my room which was spacious, very comfortable and came with fridge, en suite shower and A/C. The hotel staff were fantastic, always ready to help, friendly and relaxed and at the same time very professional with plenty of tips on local places to visit. Great food too, such as butter fish and spicy chicken and recommend the delicious Gambian juice called Wonjo. I had a wonderful week at Hibiscus House - very much hope to go back some time.
I genuinely cannot think of anything I didn't like!

Hibiscus House was a beautiful oasis in Gambia after travelling. We had to tear ourselves away. The staff were amazing and attentive without being in the slightest bit overbearing. Very helpful with advice on travelling on local buses, shared taxis which we followed successfully. Our room was welcoming and very comfortable. The gardens are well maintained and the pool delightful. The food is fabulous & you can select African dishes if you wish - I would recommend these they were delicious! Whilst we were there it had attracted a eclectic mix of guests who were wonderful to meet & share experiences. Sarah the owner’s pride in her staff and wanting guests to have the best experience of The Gambia & her accommodation was evident. We have been fortunate to stay in many different places on our travels over the years- Hibiscus House is special!
Nothing! All good!

Came upon Hibiscus House at the last minute after an earlier booking didn’t work out.
I could not have been made more welcome or comfortable. Sarah and her wonderfully engaging and attentive staff made for a great stay and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Hibiscus Hotel is a little Oasis of pools, gardens, flowers and exotic bird life perfectly located for enjoying a taste of real Gambia.
Sarah and her charming team could not have been more welcoming and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The meals were fantastic, freshly made to your order and the chef's local Gambian dishes were delicious. Breakfasts were fresh fruits, eggs of any kind, pancakes and warm breads with honey and peanut butter, coffee and fresh fruit juices. Yum!! A great, well stocked bar.
The authentic bedrooms are spacious, well positioned around the pools, with comfy beds, great hot showers, ceiling fan & aircon, and everything works well.
We enjoyed the 25 minute walk through the town to the wonderful beach and also exploring the neighbourhood of Brufut, meeting the local people and always felt safe and welcome.
We loved our week and it suited us perfectly. If you are looking for a young person's holiday with nightlife, this is not for you. If you are looking to emmerse yourself in some genuine African charm, then look no further.

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, really nice fruit platter and choice of eggs how you like. fresh juice, great coffee and excellent service. Dinner was always a great choice, very talented chefs. Outstanding cocktails and great value for money overall. Entertainment from the house band was such fun. Great staff, wonderful vibe, lovely atmosphere and excellent management team.
Pool was a quite cold and a bit small if you like to swim, but still enjoyable and essential to cool off!
If you don't like dogs....there is a house guard dog that wanders around sniffing out any badness...although very placid and harmless if you are not a burglar!

The whole experience at Hibiscus House offers something for everyone. You can treat your stay as a real 'retreat' or combine it with truly memorable day trips organised by the host. A delightful array of spectacular birds sing in the morning as you wake up and take your delicious breakfast. Crickets sound at night for the perfect nocturnal soundscape. The whole place and space feels like you have arrived at a piece of heaven on this earth.

After a somewhat challenging week in Senegal, arriving at Hibiscus was an absolute joy - an oasis of quiet, comfortable serenity surrounded by lush tropical plants and trees and sparkling blue swimming pool.
The rooms are extremely comfortable, the A/C works perfectly and the showers are just what you need after a flight (or some time in the African sun).
Sarah is an amazing host, could not have been more helpful and knows all there is to know about Gambia, where to go and what to see/do.
The other staff are very friendly, happy to chat about their country and give interesting historical information too.
Food very good, and the bar has an excellent selection of drinks.
Highly recommended, especially if you're seeking somewhere to chill out, relax and enjoy some peace and quiet.
Everything was great.

Breakfasts were good, but dinners and lunches were superb! The staff is extremely polite and available, we felt at home. We will definitely go back!
If I have to be picky, cocktails can be improved. But the wines they have are a very good alternative!

Hibiscus house is a real community of people who are welcoming and kind. The rooms are comfortable, the food is exceptional and the atmosphere is wonderful. The staff are always on hand to help you with anything you need, Seidou the chef is particularly talented creating a mix of traditional Senegambian food and things that are more familiar to a European visitor.
The hotel is situated in the town of Brufut which is small town a few kilometres south of Serekunda. The beach nearby is truly a paradise and has everything you need for a relaxing beach getaway.
The Hotel can provide you with as much or as little as you want to do. We took an excursion to Tanji bird reserve and fishing village and to Gunjur beach which was an amazing day out. Mamadee the driver and guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the local culture and customs. We visited a women's community garden and an eco lodge then wiled away a couple of hours watching the local cows trundle down the beach.
We are very much looking forward to our next visit
It was all great

The Hibiscus House is a gorgeous property with nicely equipped rooms. But what really made our visit special were the staff members who made us delicious food and ensured we had the perfect stay. We appreciate all they did!
I can't think of any improvements - they were the perfect hosts.

It was a lovely hotel with really nice staff and super relaxing. The bed was comfy and the poor was fabulous. Everything seemed to be so easy and we had a lovely time.
You need to get taxis to most places, which isn't really an issue, however as it was quiet, there were quite a lot of 'random' people at the hotel. They were all polite but they didn't seem to be staying there.

It was a little bit of paradise. It’s set in a small and fairly non-descript African village; so much so that when you pull up you wonder where you are. But as soon as you step inside it’s something else. Quite wonderful and peaceful location in which to relax, with just the sounds of birds to keep you company.
Staff were wonderful, always willing to assist, whether that be drinks, food, cleaning or hailing taxis.
The thrice weekly African music was also a welcome treat to relax in the evening to.
We’d happily return and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a week of relaxation!
While we loved the location for its peacefulness, it is slightly off the beaten path and a trek to go elsewhere. There’s a 20-25 hike to the beach, which can be tough in the heat, or else you need to take a taxi. At 300 DL it’s not much but is a slight hassle.
Lunch menu could also be a bit broader.
7.0
Location & setting are fantastic, the atmosphere is warm & welcoming and you feel like you're in Africa, not a sterile, westernised hotel. The staff are friendly & helpful.
A more extensive or varied menu would be better as there are few other places to eat locally. Because of the amount of dust, more of the outdoor furniture needs to be cleaned daily, eg tables & chairs by the rooms.
