Lovely and peaceful with a beautiful view

Simple and no-frills, a beautiful location, lovely staff, gorgeous view, wonderful pool. A really lovely stay!

The location is a bit remote and there's not much around except for three restaurants. But if peace and quiet is what you're looking for, this is perfect

Beautiful! Amazing value for money.

The breakfast is big and delicious, the pool and views are stunning (and I believe every room has a view), the staff incredibly helpful and accommodating, and the rooms spacious, clean and comfortable (better than they look in photos). This place is fantastic value for money. I loved it so much I wanted to extend my stay, but unfortunately for me, they were all booked out!

Everything was fantastic! It would be nice if the bed was under the window given that the views are so so lovely, but given the room's layout (or at least my room) it would have looked very odd if the bed *was* under the window, so it is understandable.

A great place to relax and enjoy stunning scenery.

A beautiful motel, located in a very small village right on the banks of the Douro River. The breakfast was wonderful and it was warm enough to swim in their very well maintained pool.

Nothing. Find it challenging still not having a kettle and cups in the room to make tea or coffee. This really isn’t a criticism, just a comment.

Beautiful tranquil place with fantastic views and access to the Douro railway.

Very good. Plan your stay in advance if staying for several days.

Superb view of the Douro River. We stayed in the apartment which had a balcony facing the river and the vineyards. Our unit was very quiet and we slept well all three days that we stayed there. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The bathroom is a little tight but manageable. The train ride to Pinhao is a bargain.

In theory there are three restaurants within walking distance of the property. One of these was closed because of the time of the year. One didn't seem to want customers and offered a limited menu. The third was excellent. There are no stores nearby, so do your shopping before arriving (e.g. in Alijo)

Could easily rival the Vintage House Hotel

Wonderful, individually designed / built hotel. Superb views over the Douro River. Great breakfast with lots of selection. During my stay they made scrabbled eggs individually for guests (none of that made in bulk that you get in chain hotels)

Nothing especially. Just be aware that local restaurants are few and far between. The restaurant in the village was closed when I stayed Monday, but I walked about 1/2 mile down the River to another very decent restaurant that was open.

Property right in river with spectacular views. We did not use pool but it was very inviting and pool area and sun deck with chaises. Entire property immaculate. Lift. Breakfast buffet was plentiful with scrambled eggs also offered. Breakfast room is lovely and guests had option of breakfast on patio overlooking the river. Hosts wonderful. Walked along river after breakfast, so peaceful. Restaurants within short walk. Right across from the Tua train station- this would be the best way to get to location. Driving takes a little while due to topography although the drive was very scenic.

I wish we could have stayed a second night.

I loved every minute of my stay. Only regret was having to leave.

I loved this property. Its location is simply amazing, the staff are great, the room is well-equipped, spacious and comfortable. Good aircon and Wi-Fi. Lovely breakfast on the terrace. The pool was a fantastic treat. I travel a lot; this is up there with the best accommodation I have ever stayed in.

Nice quiet stay in a lovely old-fashioned hotel

We were looking for a place to spend three nights on the Douro but not in a busy tourist area. We found there are a lot of quiet private places - that are very expensive... and some reasonably-priced places that are in busy tourist locations. In Casa do Tua we found the perfect compromise. It is a nice hotel in a small village on the Douro beyond the usual tourist destinations farther west. You have to be going to Foz Tua to end up in Foz Tua! The room is a little old-fashioned as is the rest of the building, but it has a well-kept pool and a good breakfast and nice staff. It was just what we needed - a quiet place to use as our base to see the Douro Valley. We had a nice view of the river from our smallish window. If they did a complete remodel, I'm sure they'd put large windows or patio doors and decks and charge double or more their current rates. There is not much nearby, but we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of our dinner at Calca Curta, a restaurant just steps away from the hotel - who would have guessed that marinated eels for a starter would be a highlight?! We also had a fine meal in nearby Alijo at the highly-rated Restarante Maria da Gloria

This is a true gem. Don’t pass it by.

Breakfast was far above and better than expected! Pool was so fresh and clean you would think it was drinking water. Building has classic charm and quaintness. Reception was quick, friendly and helpful. Restaurant next door was also outstanding.

Nothing. Wanted to extend my stay to enjoy the solitude but unfortunately the hotel was prebooked.

The accommodation in Tua was a highlight, amazing facilities great breakfast and fantastic view.

A highlight of our trip to Portugal the stay at this accommodation. Overlooking the river, great pool and right next door to one of the best restaurants. Easy access to boat trip and train.

fabulous location but don’t use the garage !

fantastic location with amazing views.

if you are offered to park your motorcycle in the hotel garage walk the route first. it is terrifying and definitely not suitable for biking. Horrendous cambers then a 90deg turn into the garage all on cobbles. Scared us and we dropped the bike on the camber. Exiting was nearly as bad. park at the top the road is quiet and just enjoy your stay.
