This was our first vacation in many years and it felt like we stepped out of our dreams and into reality. No regrets booking La Veranera and spending two indulgent weeks there.
We only went to San Juan del Sur or on excursions a handful of times as it was btwn $20-$40 US by taxi each way. There is a local bus you can take for 60 cordobas (about $2 US) that comes at 7:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 5:00 PM which we also took a couple times.
Things to do if you stick around Playa del Coco include:
- stepping out the door to greet the ocean each morning with a fresh cup of coffee
- watching baby turtles get released into the ocean. (We were there in late January and were lucky enough to see this a few times)
- playing in the ocean - swimming, surfing, boogie boarding. The waves ranged from negligible to 3 ft. No undertow when we were there.
- walking the length of the beach in the cool hours of the evenings
- lounging in the shade with a book and jumping in the pool every now and then to cool off
- meeting and chatting with the other folks staying at La Veranera. Good vibes.
For food, there is a restaurant up the road that delivers but we mostly relied on the fare that our lovely cook/housekeepers Karla, Jessica and Rita made. The pizzas are thin crust and delicious. Also had the pasta and fish.
We stayed in La Flor and the hot water for the shower wasn’t working yet . The first ten seconds were a bit chilly but you adjust quickly - it wasn’t a big deal.

La tranquilidad, La Paz, la ubicación frente al mar. El uso de la instalación. Un lugar para desconectar.
Todo bien

It’s hard to fault this place! We had an amazing stay. The beach location is unmatched, the staff were friendly and helpful (despite the fact we spoke no Spanish & they spoke no English). Highly recommend the king room with sea view, the room and bathroom are huge, and it’s a bonus having your own seating area and hammock overlooking the beach! We love animals and one of the owner’s cats made themselves at home on our laps. We made a strong connection with the abandoned Doberman on the beach, he’s the sweetest soul who just doesn’t seem to belong anywhere which broke our hearts - he was always there to greet us in the morning and would wander along the beach with us, so please don’t judge a book by its cover if you happen to stumble across him during your stay here. We were lucky enough to see turtles nesting on La Flor beach, and turtle hatchlings being released from the small refuge next door to the lodge!
The only small thing to fault would be that there was a seating area right next to the private terrace which made it feel a bit awkward if other guests sat there due to the very close proximity, but that really is a minor thing!

We loved the homey feel of the property. We were spoiled with the pasta and pizza along with the new friend we made. The beach was wonderful.
I wished the pool was a bit cleaner. We didn’t chance taking a dip.

Very private. You have the entire beach practically for ypurself
No place to eat near by. You have to go to San Juan where all the restaurants and action scene are.

Calm, relaxing quiet environment. Food was okay (homemade pizza was good). The staff was approachable. I got a fabulous massage from Karen ‘
Mejía. I happen to ask for a mani pedi and a woman from the community came to the place. I highly recommend this piece of paradise for those that love a nice, quiet beach.
I would have liked to know of all activities from front desk. We found out last minute about snorkeling and boat trips. We missed that option. Or I had to ask about mani-pedi because it was not listed on the board.

I loved the remote location from the San Juan del Sur Bay crowd. I also loved the super friendly and super nice staff. I loved it's a beautiful place right on the water. It's located only 3 minutes from a beach where you can see lot of turtles laying eggs. The 15 minutes dirt road to get there is well maintained. I loved you can see the sunset in front of you.
I didn't like I only spent 2 nights there.

This is a wonderful getaway directly on the beautiful beach of Playa El Coco. Heidi and her staff were fantastic, making sure we were happy and fed. The food prepared was delicious and there was great variety. We loved ending our trip at this property as we were able to kick back and relax. We even got to see turtles being released at the sanctuary beside the property! Sunsets on the beach in the warm ocean water were unforgettable. Thanks again! ❤️
There isn't much not to love. This is a rustic property with lots of charm. Little things like no hot water and being close to the road did not bother us, but were good to know going into the stay.

The staff and the owners are really kind ! The place is beautiful and so peaceful. I'm in love with this place. Perfect for families or a friend gathering . There's not a lot of people at the beach too ,we had the chance to see the release of a little turtle . Good food and really good drinks !!
Thanks for everything

The best part about the property is that it is located on the beach.
Unfortunately, we booked the pool view room and it was not a nice room. It is behind the pool area (back of building) with extremely poor lighting and a vast big room with no charm. The common seating for the hotel is in front of the bedrooms (which is not ideal) - The property has huge potential…. needs a deep clean, painting and a rearrangement of furniture/furnishings. There are very few options for food at Coco beach - if you have a car, travel back to Escamequita for your dinner. we loved the restaurant: Rancho Tere.

Excellent location, beachfront, with a turtle sanctuary right outside, it was a beautiful, almost private, beach. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, tried to help in any way they could. very peaceful and serene
Room had a shared bathroom which was outside the house, beds were very hard and no hot water.

We highly recommend this beautiful spot, if you are seeking a place to unwind and/or chill for a time. The set-up is perfect, a raised pool deck with loungers and soft cushioned chairs, a big dining table, a pool bar and only about 4 - 6 rooms rented so the place feels like one big family. Ben and crew make sure you never go hungry or thirsty. A few short steps from the pool is the gate that leads you right onto the white sand beach. Playa El Coco is gorgeous, lovely to walk along and the sea has the perfect waves for easy boogie boarding.
I wish we would have chosen a better room, one with a view. Our bed could have been more comfortable, but totally fine for a shorter stay.

The location is stunning and the service is the best! Amazing friendly and supportive in all our needs. The pool is a great addition to the beach next to it. A secret feature was the turtle rescue center right next to the hotel.
The room itself was basic and the beds could use an upgrade. There was no hot water, so for the kids a little heavy.
