About this house rental
Renovated schoolhouse on a quiet river in the Berkshires. This is the perfect place to unwind. Great for families and friends to relax and reconnect. Take a walk to the waterfalls, play croquet or volleyball on the lawn, gather dinner from our seasonal garden and enjoy 'smores around the fire pit. Very private and woodsy, but close to Butternut for skiing, Great Barrington for shopping and access to all the music and art the Berkshires has to offer. We are very close to some well known restaurants like Cantina 229, Old Inn on the Green and Gedney Farm. Home is stylish, comfortable and inviting. This house is perfectly cozy and you many never want to leave it! We provide all the basic staples ranging from bandaids, shampoo and an iron to coffee, tea, oil, vinegar and some necessary baking items. You will have all the pots and anything in the fridge and cabinets. We have wifi but you can easily unplug if that's what you're looking for. Smart TV to access your own accounts, Great DVD collection for all ages (no cable tv), games like Monopoly and Scrabble, CD collection, BBQ gas grill and charcoal and room to unwind. Don't forget to sign the walls in the downstairs bathroom! Our house is not suitable for toddlers and young children and is not child proofed, we are on a quiet road but there is a river so you will need to use your judgment and be safe. As for pets, we are not equipped for them and not a suitable place for them. We don't even bring our own dogs and cat. We are surrounded by beautiful serene woods but those woods have poison ivy and ticks. You don't want your lovely animals to mess with all that and suffer. And we don't want them bringing those elements inside the house. Thank you for your understanding.

We had a great stay at this property. The house is charming and comfortable, and the porch is amazing! We spent all our free time there playing games, having cocktails and planning our next days adventures. The yard is also large and beautiful, and it is very lush, green and well cared for.
The kitchen had everything we needed, and more! We really appreciated that they provided coffee (both regular and decaf)!
The hosts provided very clear instructions on using things in the house, and a very thorough guest guide to things to do in the area, places to eat and outdoor activities.
Communication with the host was easy and they were very responsive!
We would definitely recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Southern Berkshires. Great little gem.

Four of us girls had not spent a weekend away for 10+ years and this was the best place to catch up and enjoy each other! The screened I. Porch was our favorite place and all slept great in this house! Went to the spa at soul and body and it was an amazing ! Really enjoyed the area of wineries and distilleries!

Lovely historical house but unfortunately our sister became very ill . We were very impressed with the local 911services. They were all prompt, competent and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. We were totally impressed especially since we were not local residents!

See from the pictures- a historic schoolhouse updated with modern touches. Exquisite nature views all around! the sound of the brook, the lovely screened in porch to read, nap, play board games... Kate stocked the home with everything guests would need - from extra towels & linens to toothbrushes (if you forgot yours) basic first aid supplies, even gifted us with a bottle of wine & cookies our first night. She was an incredible host, helping us to plan in advance and answering a few questions while on site. I suggested adding some black out roller blinds to the bedroom- but guests can overcome in the meantime by packing a sleeping mask! We loved being here- wished it could have been longer- our teen son asked to come back too! Enjoy this magical, well-appointed home! Thank you Kate!

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights to escape the city and relax. We hiked Umpachene Falls, found some great eats and shopping, and took advantage of the starts by the fire pit. This little gem is right on the river and we got to enjoy the sounds then entire time. It was peaceful and quiet, just what we needed. The hostess, Kate, was super friendly and communicative, as was the groundskeeper, Chuck. We will definitely be back to stay here.

We had a lovely working vacation at this property. Loved the property (including garden and fire pit) and enjoyed many of the local hikes recommended by Kate—who was a wonderful, responsive host. The wifi was strong and I was able to have many video conference meetings without a hitch. The little room off the master bedroom was a perfect working nook.

This home was such a wonderful escape for us. We hiked to the beautiful waterfall, prepared food directly from the garden and sat on the screened in porch for hours talking and listening to sounds of water nearby. It was magical and we hope to come back next year!

We had a great stay and especially enjoyed the edible garden planted with veggies and herbs, the instructions for great walks in the area as well as other places of interest and most of all the amazing screened in porch where we spent a good part of our days.

We enjoyed our few days in the peace and quiet of this charming little house. Sitting on the back porch listening to the water flowing down below was very pleasant and relaxing. We also enjoyed the easy walk to the nearby waterfall. The house had everything we needed and was very clean. Would definitely recommend it to anybody and may return someday.

We had a wonderful week picking blueberries, playing lawn games and exploring the Umpachene Falls. Cantina 229 is always fun to visit and the sunset concert at Naumkeag was great, too. The screened in porch was a dream and we made good use of the puzzles, dvds and board games on rainy days. Kate was an attentive and thoughtful host. We hope to come back!

We had a great time at this beautiful home. We loved the touches in the house and we found everything we needed. Loved the new bathroom and finishings upstairs and the bed was super comfy. Our quick getaway was perfect. Kate’s trail guide and info about the area were very helpful. Would love to come back in a warmer season to enjoy the fire pit and listen to the river right behind.

This is the best property I have stayed at with my family. The house is gorgeous and very well maintained - the porch in particular was everyone's favourite place to hang out! The place is secluded, which is just what we were looking for. Great hikes for people of all levels. Already planning a return trip!

A few of my friends and I stayed here in order to meet up and celebrate a couple of birthdays together. It was the perfect little place for a respite. The fresh snow made the house and property that much more charming and welcoming. We made a fire outside one day and went tubing at Butternut the other but mostly just cozied up inside playing games and watching movies. The house was clean and comfortable and had everything we could have possibly needed for the weekend. Would definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home. The house was exactly as described, thoughtful touches throughout. The kitchen was very well appointed and had everything we needed. Bedrooms were comfortable and clean. Communication with the owners was easy and speedy. We skied and tubed at Butternut and enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the area. We were very much in need of a break from our quarantining at home and this house was the perfect location. Will hopefully come back!

Great house in the Berkshires!
The property was exactly as listed. The location was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the garden, back porch, and the fire pit. The location, house, and amenities made for a wonderful week.
Kate has provided tons of great suggestions for hikes and food in the area, which we utilized. After exploring for a week, we also recommend hiking at Clam River (6-mile loop) and apple picking at Riiska Brook Orchard (in-season). If you find yourself in NW Mass, Pedrin's Dairy Bar (between Adams and North Adam's) was great for lunch. Also, Whitney's Farm had amazing cider donuts and pies.
I 100% recommend this property. We were sad to leave and have already started thinking about booking it again.
