About this house rental
Welcome to the Cozy Aloha Ohi’a Hale in Volcano, Hawaii!
Nestled into the hapu’u fern forest of Ohi’a Estates in Volcano, Hawaii, this quiet, cozy retreat is the perfect place to relax after a long-day of sight-seeing. Slip into the hot tub and enjoy the sounds of nature that the Big Island is famous for. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is minutes away and has a whole new look after the great eruption of 2018 that closed the Park for several months! And you’re only 30 minutes from historic, downtown Hilo – and great snorkeling at Carlsmith Beach Park.
The home is perfect for 1 or 2 people. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to whip up those scrumptious island meals. The comfy living room boasts a large sofa, recliner and cozy gas fireplace. The guest bedroom has a queen bed and the bathroom has a large walk-in shower with all kinds of jets! The large covered lanai is a great space to grill and dine outdoors, or relax under the gas propane heater or in the hot tub.
Please note: The owner’s private bedroom and office are locked and not for guest’s use.
What to pack Volcano, Hawaii sits at about 3500’ elevation. The Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, boasts over 4,000 square miles and 10 different climate zones, within which are many micro climate zones! You may think that packing your favorite swimsuit and slippers (flip flops) is enough, but not true if you plan on doing any hiking or sightseeing around the island. The Volcano area can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping down to the low 40s at night, sometimes lower, so do bring your favorite warm pajamas and at least a light jacket. It actually snows often on Mauna Kea, but they close those roads whenever there are blizzard conditions present.

We stayed at this clean and comfortable property for 10 days and loved it The caretakers were responsive and helpful when we contacted them about some small issues. The hot tub was phenomenal. And the shower wonderful. The small portable electric heater and gas fireplace took the edge off the early morning and evening coolness. The drive to the wide variety of hikes at Volcano National Park was short. And access to beaches and other activities to the east and south were all within 45 minute drives. One major concern: the area rugs in the living room did not lie flat and we had to be very vigilent to not trip. We suggest double-sided tape to hold the corners and edges down.Otherwise, we thiroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had a great stay at this spot. The hot water was out on arrival and getting it fixed would have been a much smoother process if there was a single point of contact that reached out to us at the beginning of our stay, but still this was a great property and I'd recommended it to anyone.

This little place had everything we needed for a trip to Volcano. Close enough to the parks that making multiple trips to the volcano was as easy. The hot tub was fantastic. The privacy and jungle like feel made for a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!

This was the best VRBO that I have ever stayed in! The house looks EXACTLY like the pics on the listing. The location is amazing... so close to Volcano National Park. The amenities are great... full kitchen with all necessary cooking utensils, etc. The owner's have done such a fantastic job of decorating their home and making their guests comfortable. The jacuzzi was awesome after a long day of hiking. The fireplace and heated blanket were great because the nights were cold at 4000 feet elevation in January! Instructions for washer and dryer, etc were very clear. I can recommend this VRBO with 100% confidence! Thanks so much!

We enjoyed this location because of the details of having a complete kitchen with pans and utensils and a start up of a few staples, a very comfortable bed, the porch was lovely and all of the details made this a very comfortable, homey place to stay.

My wife and I had an excellent stay in Volcano. The property was sparkling clean and the check-in experience was easy and fast. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen large and well equipped. The photos don't do this cute house justice - it's a very beautiful place.

Beautiful volcano getaway
Stayed here for 5 nights here, and truly enjoyed our stay while we explored Volcano national park and the Hilo side of the island. The property and all its amenities were just as advertised. The hot tub and shower were a real treat after a long day of hiking,m snorkeling, or driving around. Would love to stay again in the near future.

Excellent location, close to Volcano National Park and the town of Kilauea. Perfect for a couple with a fully equipped kitchen, huge refrigerator and freezer, a nice HOT tub & great BBQ on lanai and general feeling of aloha. They even supplied a small cooler for daily use. Highly recommend if you want to come and go to the Park and the general area.

Feb 4-15, 2020 We vacationed at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for this period and had a great time. The one bedroom rental unit was very conveniently located (a few miles from the park entrance; even closer to the restaurants and shops in Volcano Village, and just off the highway leading to Hilo or the South and West Coasts of the Island), clean, quiet and comfortable. The living room is spacious to relax in. It looks in reality just as it looks in the photos accompanying the listing. It has a hot tub but we didn't use it: we were out early until late each day. Renters should be reminded to purchase food and other supplies in Hilo or Kailua-Kona (large grocery stores in both towns)because the general stores in Volcano Village and at the Kilauea Military Camp are very small with limited stock. A wonderful place to stay next to an extraordinary natural resource.

Great escape!
This house is a great escape from it all! We absolutely enjoyed our visit. The house has everything you need to settle in and stay a while, if that's what you choose to do! We were a little disappointed with the volcanic national park being closed due to the erruption, however at no fault to the property owner of course! With that being said, it is a distance away from any activities when the park is closed down, so we ended up driving a lot more than we wanted.
The house is in great condition, you can tell the owner(s) take pride in it!
4.7
Lovely place, great location
Other than a little confusing with check in info: it was a keypad entry, rather than a lock box and the gate that is mentioned is not at driveway, it is to the house. And the A or B option for that address number was a little confusing. It was good that I remembered the picture from the website since that didn't come up with the entry directions...it was a WONDERFUL place to stay. The hot tub on the lanai was delicious and the place had everything we needed. Very comfortable bed!! Kitchen was very well stocked. Definitely would stay again. The location was fabulous! We really enjoyed it!

EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS!
In all honesty - i booked this unit just because it was the only one in the location i wanted with the dates i needed that i could afford as we were planning Hawaii on just a few weeks notice. I arrived hoping not to be disappointed - indeed it was just the opposite! The unit is actually brighter and more welcoming that the pics led me to believe and we had a marvelous stay. The open floor plan made it feel very spacious, appliances were new and in perfect condition and the bed was super comfy. Hot tub worked great. Washer and dryer were much appreciated. And I don't have words to describe how much i loved the shower! The super soft bath towels exceed anything in any resort ever. We were told there was a housekeeper for the unit, and while she did not come at all during our stay, the unit was indeed spotless when we arrived. Vast selection of DVDs on hand, and a cool scrabble game in the bedroom closet. The only heat is a gas powered "log furnace" in the living area, which worked well, tho i don't think it can be set to run overnight, tho there were more than enough blankets on hand for us. The bedroom is a little small, but with a really big closet. (no dresser tho - and a dehumidifier in the bedroom would be my only suggestion )
It is exactly 5 minutes from the entrance to VNP, and easy to find. My only disappointment is i did not get to see the cats! I would recommend this to any couple looking for a great location and a homey stay.

Clean, cozy and beautiful cottage in the middle of the rainforest.
We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable home in a beautiful setting! Although it felt remote, the proximity to the was amazing. We were really able to make the most of our entrance fee.
4.7
Wonderful Place
This was an excellent place to stay the only negative is there wasn’t a chest of drawers to put things . We had to live out of suitcases for the 4 weeks of our stay. When we ran out of propane they were very prompt in getting it refilled. I would recommend them again.
4.7
Clean, convince, perfect!
This was a nice place to stay. I am very happy with all the accommodations and the cleanliness of everything. Thanks for everything :-)

Loved having the hot tub to use after a long day of hiking. The bed is very comfortable. Home is clean and spacious. Would stay here again.

We greatly enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment near Volcano National Park. This is a clean and well maintained house with great instructions on how to use everything. Thank you for the hospitality!

Cozy Home in the Rainforest
We stayed in this home for a week in August. It was a great base for exploring Kilauea, Chain of Craters Road, Pahoa, Hilo and beyond. Loved the location, close to Volcano center with gas station and restaurants, but isolated enough to be very quiet. We took a boat trip to the active lava flow entering the ocean - highlight of our 3 week trip. It was nice to have a cooler and ice packs for our outings.
4.7
A nice rainforest retreat
I stayed here just one night but I quite enjoyed it and can recommend to future visitors.
It's in the town of Volcano, basically a small town in a rainforest. It's a very private house in a picturesque location. The streets and property are surrounded by trees and plants. It rained on and off much of the time I was here which I think was typical (~100 inches of rain per year in this area). The town is very small, and I had already bought food on the Kona side, over here you might want to end up driving to Hilo for shopping if you're have more than a brief stay here. It's about a 5 minute drive from the entrance of the Volcanoes national park, and just a minute or two off of the highway.
The house itself is quite nice. It has a very large and well equipped kitchen and living room and you could really be comfortable here for a more extended stay of several nights. Sitting in the hot tub with the back patio surrounded by trees and plants after a day of hiking in the Volcanoes park is quite nice. Cell reception was a bit spotty for me with T-mobile, I couldn't even always get a roaming signal inside. But the internet worked fine while I was there and there is DirectTv, an extensive DVD collection, and some board games if you want some indoor entertainment.
The housekeeper was very helpful and friendly. I accidentally called her when I meant to call the Kilauea visitors center (I had written the numbers down next to each other in my travel notebook) but she still helpfully and knowledgeably answered my questions and it took a few minutes for me to realize I had dialed the wrong number she was so helpful!
Some small criticisms: There are lots of lights on dimmer switches, and fans with speed switches, which was helpful but also takes some time to figure out since they were not labeled. Several of the kitchen knives were in very bad shape and could be sharpened or replaced (or maybe include a sharpener). The kitchen also because it was very large was a little bit harder to find things. Some labels would be helpful, even if it would maybe not look as nice.
