We stayed two weeks in this home and enjoyed our time, and would recommend the home to others.
PROS:
* Home was cleaned very well upon our arrival. There were no traces of sand anywhere.
* The home is right on the beach with beautiful ocean views from the living area and all decks. We were inside a lot and enjoyed being able to enjoy the ocean without being on it, and watch sunsets on the opposite deck with views of Folly River.
* Plenty of living space for several young children to run around and play. There were a few child safety gates for the stairs we found in the home.
* Beautiful, large master bedroom.
* Well-stocked kitchen with pots, pans, appliances, etc.
* Private outdoor shower with warm water was a plus for showering kids after the beach.
CONS:
* Lots of carpenter ants became active at night in the house. We called to have pest control come out at the beginning of our stay, which could have made it worse while we were there. It wasn't fun having bugs crawling in bed at night.
* Elevator worked, but was a little finnicky. We had to reset the breaker to get it to turn on initially, and the door latches stuck a few times (we learned to push up on the door when entering/exiting). It's also not clear from the photos, but the elevator not does go to the top floor of the property (the living area), so some stair climbing is still required.
* Interior of the home looks a little dated, and some things are in need of repair. Many of the light bulbs or fixtures would not turn on, and one of the window A/C units was broken (though the home stayed cool enough without it). We tried to use the cable box once, but it kept disconnecting.
* Beach area was smaller than we were expecting during high tide (the water could reach the stairs). The beach was not crowded, though, so we could still find space during high tide, but there was less to do with young, active children. Perhaps the 2024 renourishment of Folly Beach will aid this.

House location was fantastic! We were right on the ocean but also able to see the sunsets on the intercostal waterway on the street side. Far enough off of center st (right past the washout surfing area) that the beach area was not overcrowded. However, i would suggest renting a golf cart (folly beach adventures was fantastic-all electric and they deliver) if you plan on going into folly frequently. Dolphins frequently passed by and we saw para surfers and more. Would definitely come back.

"This property has such great potential. It's a beautiful location with direct beach access. However, they are making no efforts to maintain the property. We chose this property as a family vacation where 3 families came together with 2 young children. I would not recommend this property to families. The air conditioning does not cool the whole house. The beginning of the week, the house was layered in floral perfume cleaning products, surely to mask the extreme mustiness that ensued mid-week. The sliding doors require an adult male strength to open or close, assuming the door handle exists or is not falling off. Power outlets are falling out of the walls. The upstairs bedroom has no ventilation and as mentioned, with minimal upstairs A/C, you are sleeping in humid, 80 degrees. The home needs dehumidifiers. All these concerns were relayed to the ownership company, they did offer options to rectify but more importantly, why not put these efforts into maintaining the home? Just sad."

This was our 4th vacation at this property over the past 5 years (no vacation in 2020 due to Covid). The first year we stayed, the house was in great shape. The elevator from ground level to the 1st floor is a necessity for luggage and groceries (esp cases of water) as the two flights of front steps leading to the main entrance are very, very steep. Each subsequent year that we returned, the property had issues (e.g., last year the oven did not work). This year the bathrooms were not cleaned well, the AC could not cool the house without window AC units (which were brought in last minute and their shipping boxes had to be removed) and the elevator never worked which was a serious issue as my daughter is 6 months pregnant and I have a leg injury. The Vacasa property manager responded quickly, but said the owner had to approve any repairs which they did not during our stay. We also heard from Vacasa that the property changed owners since our first stay, and it was clear they did not intend to maintain the property like the previous owner. We did not complain in the past and worked around the issues last year, but over the past 5 years, the rental price has more than doubled while the property has declined. We have enjoyed our vacations at Folly Beach, but unfortunately this will be the last at this "Low Places" property, a fitting name for the wrong reasons.

Mattresses were so worn it felt like sleeping in a hammock. Fresh towels on all the beds were damp upon arrival and had to be dried. Washing machine is dated and does little more than rinse clothing. Most of the furniture is very dated. One of us fell through a chair that was broken but just covered up with a blanket and pillows in the master bedroom. Views were great but whole home needs updating and doesn’t feel like it’s worth the price. Also- having to check out at 10 a.m. still feels ridiculous.

Water heater pilot light went out 5 times in 3 days. Electricity was intermittent, the lights flickered and the Wi-Fi kept getting knocked out.

The windows didn’t stay open and the screens were in poor repair or missing. The elevator was broken and the stairs to the beach were missing. Low Places offers a beautiful beach and stunning views of the ocean and marsh, but that's about it. The layout of the home is odd. What is called the main suite is a large, dorm-like room with bay windows, a large sliding door to the lower deck, and another large sliding door leading to the outdoor deck from the bathroom. This obviously provides no privacy. Cleanliness was questionable. All furnishings were tired, mattresses poor, and various throw 'rugs' and 'slipcovers' desperately needed cleaning or replacement. The kitchen utensils were scattered and appliances in poor working order.
If you are looking for a great beach and stunning views, but not interested in creature comforts, this might be for you. Sadly, this property hasn't been updated or properly maintained. This is an overpriced rental.

Lots of space four 5 adults to spread out. Right on the beach. Nice decks to hang out on for views of ocean and marshes. Kitchen had all basics. Laundry detergent provided. Lots of fresh towels.

I couldn't give this any less than 5 stars due to the beachfront location and amazing views of both the bay and beach. The house in general can use updating, including furniture, but everything was serviceable and clean. The main floor and kitchen seem to be recently updated and the kitchen appliances were brand new. My only gripe was the out-of-service elevator (and Hurricane Ian), but my legs got a good workout from all the stairs.

Quiet location with lots of space for families both inside and out. Kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, spices etc better than most rentals. Communication from management company prompt and issues that arose during our trip we’re addressed quickly. Cleanliness and condition of property as expected for a beach house- needs some TLC but good overall no major issues.

The house has tons of room, we had a 4 and 1 year old, so we weren’t on top of each other. Because the house sits up so high, there are alot of stairs. There is an elevator, which we used the day we got there to get bags, groceries etc up to the 2nd floor, but chose not to use bc what if it got stuck? ( and that was a personal choice). 2nd floor porch/deck is awesome as were the ‘high/tall’ chairs. 2 of the bedrooms on the first floor were very hot, even with fans.
All in all, we had a good time!!!!

We enjoyed our stay in Low Places. As with any rental, there are things that are broken and worn out, it's to be expected. Our 2 biggest negatives were the AC and the lack of a working ice maker. The master bedroom was really warm and humid, finally hitting over 80 degrees at night. We contacted Vacasa and they brought a portable ac unit to us, which was appreciated. An HVAC tech came by but he couldn't find the problem and couldn't access the ductwork to check it. All of the bedrooms on the lower level were warm but the master was by far the worst...at least a 10 degree swing from upstairs.
We had to buy ice as the ice maker didn't work and I couldn't find ice cube trays.
On the plus side, the views were spectacular, both the ocean and the marsh. You could take in the sunrise and sunset. There is plenty of beach at high tide and you are close to the lighthouse. There is plenty of room for family and friends to gather. We loved the higher chairs on the deck that allowed you to sit above the railing for an unobstructed view.
We enjoyed our stay but hope they solve the AC issues. It is a lot of money to pay to not have a properly working unit. We don't keep our own home below 75 so we don't mind it a little warm but it honestly was too hot to sleep until they brought the portable unit.

Had to unload everything out side to ensure we didn’t bring any back. This not acceptable as we will have to pay $9000.00 for next year

Had a group of 8 guys stay there and had an amazing time. The view and patio are just amazing and the beach is so clean. It’s a little fatter from downtown folly so get a golf cart as it’s worth it. Overall, the place is great and we will be staying there again.

This house is in a perfect location, was spotlessly cleaned, well lit, incredible ocean views, working convenient elevator, ample parking, and huge sprawling spaces inside and gorgeous porches outside. I will absolutely rent again!

We rented this house for my bachelorette party it was amazing! you can hear the ocean when you sleep (in the master bedroom). Very cute beachy decor and very clean! the beach feels very private, not a bunch of tourists etc (at least in oct). It is about 30 min from downtown charleston not 15
