Great historic house and good communication with owner. Good location not too far off route 1. Easy to explore all that midcoast Maine has to offer. It is a historic house which has been tastefully updated where needed but know there are some "old house" quirks as can be expected such as steep stairs to second level, heavy single pane windows etc.. This house is perfect for anybody that appreciates historic buildings and wants a well located base for their Maine vacation.

Had a great time in Waldoboro!
We loved the Mary Elizabeth House! It was just as advertised, quiet, big enough for all four of us (parents and two 20-somethings), charming. We loved the area, it is quiet there, but close to kayaking, farm stands and all the charms of central Maine. Paul is a great host, too. He was responsive and helpful.

I love this house!
This house has great antique character, while still being comfortably modern. Paul is a fantastic host, going above and beyond to make our stay great. The fresh oysters were amazing!! Waldoboro is a cute little town and is centrally located to lots of fun adventures. Check out Hardy Boat Tours and Maine Foodie Tours.

Just Far Enough Off the Beaten Path...Wonders Near and Not-so-distant
Hopes were low for our trip to Maine after repeated searches in the better known hotspots turned up few hits for acceptable lodging. I broadened our search, and we lucked into our stay at the Mary Elizabeth House. What a happy circumstance!
The house combines the best of modern comforts with the traditional appeal of Midcoast Maine--large rooms, comfortable furnishings and facilities, replete with all the necessities you'd need for a proper Maine visit: full kitchen, lobster steamer, grill, deck, modern washer and dryer, and room inside and out to spread out and relax. We especially appreciated the kitchen/dining area--room enough to cook, leave all our packs over by the door, and still be able to spread out and plan or play games. We also liked the isolation between the downstairs and upstairs--no need to creep about quietly in the mornings because our kids upstairs snoozed on regardless of what we did. One thing to note: the stairway upstairs is kind of tight and might be daunting to folks with mobility issues. That did not affect us, though, and I suspect most could ascend easily.
The location for us was ideal--after a long day of driving, what a welcome relief to be able to walk two minutes to the very scenic Waldoboro Village River Park to clear our minds. Or drive two minutes to a great little brewery. Damariscotta is fifteen minutes away with delicious ice cream and restaurants. And within a thirty or forty minutes' drive? Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, ferries to Monhegan Island (think "Little Acadia"), the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and more great seafood restaurants than we could visit during our stay. And at each day's end, we felt fortunate to return to quiet Waldoboro, minutes off Route 1 but miles from the touristy hubbub that we try to avoid.
Paul is a gracious host--communication was clear, he let us know when he'd be stopping by for yardwork or to retrieve tools for his work elsewhere. He repeatedly offered us local shellfish and recommendations for places to visit as well as offering to let us use his kayaks to explore. When I mentioned during our early correspondence that my wife was allergic to cats, he spirited Ari the Cat away for an exclusive cat vacation so we wouldn't have to worry about uninvited visits. He is kind, generous, and engaging, and he was in contact enough to answer questions but not hovering and obsessive like some hosts we've encountered.
Highly recommended!

Amazing cozy home that was perfect for our family vacation!
This property and home was exactly what we needed to get away! The home was so cozy and inviting, the perfect place for our family to gather and spend quality time together. It is absolutely beautiful! It was the perfect place for us to stay and leave from each day to explore the beautiful coastal communities of Maine. Paul was an amazing host! He communicated with us several times with ideas on places to go and events taking place nearby that we might enjoy, he surprised us with oysters on our first day there! The entire home was well stocked with linens, cookware, puzzles, books, and games. We indulged in several of the local and nearby restaurants Paul recommended. The pizza at McGreevy's will be something we all crave, it was delicious! We would highly recommend this property and hope that we have the opportunity to visit it again in the future! Thank you Paul for an amazing time and the opportunity to stay in your home!

Wonderful property.
This is a fantastic historic midcoast property that blends period details with modern amenities and comfort. Both house and landscape are well cared-for and evidence great pride of ownership. Our family of five (spanning 3 generations) stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the house and surrounding property.
There is a lovely garden on the property that is well-tended, and from which we enjoyed fresh greens, tomatoes, apples, and cucumbers. Together with the oysters and little neck clams that the host kindly brought over, we enjoyed some fresh and and very tasty home-cooked meals.
Our children (5 and 7) had great fun roaming the yard and gardens around the house. Inside there was plenty of room for folks to retreat and do their own thing when necessary. Wifi was good, and both parents were able to work remotely (and kids did virtual school) without a hitch.
A minor word of caution would be the the stairs leading up to the second floor are both narrow and steep. This is to be expected in a house of this vintage, and might be challenging for very small children or anyone with limited mobility.
The host is gracious and hospitable without being the least bit intrusive; communication was excellent both before and during our stay. We would very happily return to this property!

An incredible location and home
This stay provides everything we were looking for in Maine: access to the water, beautiful small towns, nature, and relaxation. When we mentioned we were interested in going on the water, the owner/manager provided his own kayaks and fishing rods. He even offered to drop off his own oysters. Waldoboro has its own incredible charm and is also ideally located for day trips – directly between Damariscotta and Rockland.
The home itself is stunning – an 18th-century farmhouse impeccably restored. The kitchen was better equipped than our own kitchens at our homes. We can't recommend it enough!

Relaxing Getaway
Our stay was absolutely delightful. Paul is a wonderful, communicative host -- he stopped by to maintain the garden and property grounds a few times, but always let us know in advance and made sure it was a good time for us. The property was well stocked with everything we needed and provided a perfect base to explore Maine, while also having lots to offer nearby -- including a beautiful river and reserve across the street. Highly recommend and hope we can return!!!
