I loved the location. I loved the price. I loved the size of the house. Having a pool and hot tub was awesome. We had 8 people and had an absolute blast!!! Not one of my recommendations for improvement made our trip any less enjoyable. If they weren’t selling. We’d be back.

This house is located in the perfect spot with close proximity to all local stores. The house breath taking views of the beach and also you can watch the sun set at the sound side.

I loved the floor layout and the location. Vacasa was extremely responsive within hours to fix an ac problem on the second floor. We did however deal with hoards of mosquitos which made evening/night swimming impossible. And on the last night, we found one large roach on the fourth floor. I was considering re-renting until that happened on the last night

The location is perfect. Great house layout. The furniture needs some updating. It does not really have any outdoor furniture. A house of this price range should have nice outdoor furniture. Overall a great place to stay.

By the description, we expected a property with a screened porch and comfortable furniture and a well appointed kitchen. Three strikes there. No screened porch. The dishwasher is probably the worst feature of the kitchen, being malodorous and barely functioning. We bought some Dawn and mostly washed dishes by hand for the 10 of us (after the maintenance man came out to try and fix it). The pots and pans are mostly scratched, warped and/or crusty.
The pool, pool table, and most of the beds are great! We didn’t use the bunk room but the queen mattress on the back side of the house needs to be replaced. The rest of the beds seemed comfortable.
The washer and dryer are new, and a blessing to have. The newer windows and sliding doors add a great touch (though I had to clean a few sound-side windows in order to see out of them).
Generously sized decks and great ocean views. We moved deck furniture around so we could have enough seats for ten of us. A few more chairs would be wonderful!
All in all we had a good time; it was frustrating though, having the towel bar fall off, or the toilet paper holder fall off, and the upstairs bathroom sink faucet knob come off in my hand (especially when said knob was mentioned as being broken in a review from 2021!). The place could be so wonderful if it had bedroom furniture with drawers that opened easily and another towel rack or hooks in the bathrooms.
We had a good time but were disappointed with the basics.

Just steps from the beach, with great bedrooms and plenty of space. Wish it was not as dated and had more comfortable furniture throughout.

We've stayed here many times, and I have a soft spot in my heart for this house, but things are starting to fall apart a bit. The microwave was broken; there is a leak from the main floor shower into the bedroom below (we stopped using that shower). The pool was filthy with pigeon droppings and its sides had turned green (true from the day we arrived; we never got in it). The oceanfront views are great, and they were fixing the boardwalk dune walkover when we left. Good hot tub. The house was perfectly clean; the poor cleanliness rating is due to the pool being filthy.

Outdated but the view was great

So fun! This house has the best location!!! The beach is literally in your backyard and yet two blocks in the other directions is a grocery store, restaurants, and shopping. The house was super clean and we could just enjoy right away. It could use some sprucing up but that seems trivial when you look at all it has to offer. I also loved that the managing company left incidentals so we didn’t need to spend extra money on those items. Just thinking of this house I hear the ocean waves calling!

Have been at this house several times (and in Avon annually for 25 years). There are some serious maintenance issues that need handling, esp. the deck door that leaks in the rain (and is ruining the ceiling one floor down). The pool table has been a subject of complaint by others for years now (seriously, fix the railings and the 1 ball). There are maybe 8 spoons, and only 6 glasses (lots of mugs). The cabinet icemaker has never worked. The mattresses are old and lumpy, and one of the chairs REALLY needs new cushions. It's a nice house and it suits us well, but I'd hate to see it continue to wear down (truly afraid of mold setting in where the door leaks into the carpet).

House has great potential - great location, lots of beds, good layout. It was undone by poor delivery in some respects. There are multiple non-functioning outlets. The fan in the upstairs master can not be switched off (chain is stuck). The hot tub did not work until we found the outdoor breaker and pulled the breaker out and flipped it over to its correct orientation. There was no caraffe for the coffee maker. There were 5 drinking glasses in a house for 8 people. The local VACASA office was great - gave us glasses and a coffee caraffe to replace the missing one. Not sure we would stay here again but will shop VACASA again next year.

The convenience… close to the water, close to Food Lion

We loved the location of this property. The property itself is very dated. There was mold in the crow’s nest rendering it unusable. We were not given enough towels and when I requested more, they said it was their policy one set per person. Then when I explained we didn’t receive one set per person, they stopped responding to me. We also had broken pool balls and the pool table was the center of focus in this house. They also ignored that. There was mold on one of the shower curtains. Supplies were sparse and unorganized. We were there to vacation and I didn’t want to spend my week arguing with Vacasa so we made do with the towels, broken pool balls and didn’t use the crow’s nest. I will not work with Vacasa in the future which is unfortunate because the location of this house was phenomenal.

It was a nice clean place right on the beach located 1 mile from the pier and right across the street from grocery store.

I loved the location of the property right on the beach, Food Lion 2 minute away and the pool even though smaller had a small section for the babies.

Amazing location. Watched whales and dolphins out my front window everyday. House needs a little love like light bulb changes and cracks in walls but past that, huge house! Would recommend. Comfortably slept 11 with a room to spare.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Play-N-Hooky Too. The exterior of the home has been recently updated. The interior is dated, with water damaged carpets, moldy shower curtains and caulk. Another review mentioned the lighting in the kitchen, which is terrible. If you plan to do any cooking, bring a head lamp. The kitchen is not very well appointed either, so you may want to bring along some knives/pans. I can speak for the other bedrooms, but the mattress in the upstairs master was purchased used from a 1980's soviet torture facility. Truly, we considered dragging it out to the beach and burning it, security deposit be damned. The pool table is awkwardly placed and worn to the point of being unusable. The number one ball was broken nearly in half. Kids enjoyed the hot tub, which we thought stank, literally. Pool was ice cold but refreshing. Really the only redeeming qualities are the front decks and the proximity to the beach, where we spent most of our time, trying to forget about the mattress. Good luck!

This isnour second year at this house and I have to we really enjoyed our stay. The weather held out enough for us to be out on the beach most of the time we were there. This house was cleaned well just like last year and the updated some things since our last stay. We were very pleased and will be returning again.

The oceanfront was the best location and the sunrise was so breathtaking every morning. This is the perfect house to get away from the world for a week.

Location
The location was perfect! Could see the sunrise on the ocean and the sunset on the sound. Can walk to several places to eat and a groceries story. We were there for a windy winter weekend and the house was solid and warm. House offered plenty of room to come together or be alone! Would definitely stay again!

Why was it this way?
Let me preface that i asked before i showed up, several weeks before actually, if the unit was in good shape and had the concerns of other renters been addressed. THE ANSWER GIVEN WAS, ABSOLUTELY AND THEY HAD JUST HAD A CREW GO THROUGH THE HOUSE FOR REPAIRS AND CONDITION UPDATE.
Also i might add i got a call on my way home from the rental telling me that the Rental Maintenance Company only has so much control as the owner can say no to any maintenance at their discretion.
So here goes, this is how we found it:
1. 2 of the the 3 pool cues were broken
2. there was marks and holes in the wall near the pool table indicating the cues had been used to poke the walls
3. the light above the pool table needed two bulbs, we bought them
4. The fireplace was non operating and the outside of the fireplace was covered with a tarp
5. The light above the dining room table was missing a bulb, we bought one
6. The dryer did not work, the washer did
7. The floors were dirty (not vacuumed), the carpet stained and the door handle areas were dirty. I thought it was supposed to be COVID wiped and clean
8. The hot tub was dirty and not usable
9. The Jacuzzi in the bedroom on the kitchen floor level, only had hot water and the cold was not functioning
10. Only one trash bag was available, for the whole house and it was an extremely cheap version. we bought our own
11. when we arrived the door to the outside on the kitchen floor level was wide open and the house was quite cold.
12. All the windows in the house look like they have not been cleaned in many days or months, very dirty
13. Top bedroom sink handle in bathroom came off in your hand, no screw
14. TOW rack in the Jacuzzi room on the kitchen floor level was loose from the wall, i hooked it back up before i realize the Jacuzzi did not have but only hot water.
15. Commode in bathroom on Kitchen floor level had a torn soft plastic seat
16. Bathroom on 2 level of home was missing the toilet paper roll pin
17. Only one roll of toilet paper was provided with the house, we bought our own
18. Most of the electrical plug-ins in the high use areas of the living room, kitchen and bedrooms were wore out to the point they would not hold to a item plugged into the receptacle.
19. The stereo in the top cupola area was not operational and disassembled
20. The pool table pockets were torn loose from the table in places
21. Shower in top floor bedroom did not drain properly, slowly and backed up.
We made do with what we had.

Beachfront love
This was a lovely home for our big family. It is an older dwelling and some things need updating. The location and beautiful sunrises were worth it!

The worse house I have stayed at in the Outer Banks or Hatteras Island.
The house is awful! Please do not stay here. It is absolutely run down and has not been updated since it was built in 1993. It is dirty and was not cleaned properly when we arrived on July 18, 2021. The house smells like mold and rotten cheese. There are nails all over the house that our children could step on and hurt their feet. The bathrooms still had sand in the tubs and urine all over the toilet seats. My 81 year old mother fell in the tub because the cleaning crew sprayed some type of solution but did not wipe it or rinse it with water. One of the bedroom closet doors was ripped off and just left in the closet! The comforters have stains all over them and smell. The ice machine is broken and the wifi does not work. I could go on and on and on and on. It is a disgusting house and vacasa/Hatteras realty should be ASHAMED of themselves for renting out this house!

Location to amenities and beach are spot on.

Extremely dissatisfied
Dirty pool and hot tub, moldy shower curtain, nails found thru out home, rusty inoperable grill. Stained throw pillows on couches, no internet for 4 days, no tub handles on one of the tubs. Kitchen cub boards a shamble.

Right at the beach!
The property was larger than expected, rooms were larger. The pool was a huge plus after we all were sun burned. The property has beach/weather wear and tear and needs some normal work done to it but otherwise a very good spot isolated at the beach.
