Great house and location.

Being so close to the ocean, yet having a nice big dune for a bit of wind protection was nice. Also, being pet friendly was a big plus.

(Positive): great location, nice layout for a shared family vacation with family and friends. Quiet stretch of beach, nice views and hot tub. Very responsive to request for extra towels and simple home repair.
(Negative): the carpet on the upper floor smells terrible and feels and looks dirty. It really needs to be replaced. And the AC doesn’t work up there so they have a window unit and box fans. We ended up cranking up the ac in the lower floor to try and get it comfortable upstairs and then freezing overnight as a result.

This was an ok property. It’s just behind the double dune to the beach. The path to the beach had lots of trash, broken tiles, and debris. The photos make this property look better than in person. The carpet in the living area and stairs should be removed. It smells and is dirty. I wore shoes the entire time…and kept my dog on the lower level only (hard surfaces in lower level). The house could use an update/refresh. The neighborhood is rundown. I booked this property to be close to family (their house did not allow pets)…then Vacasa told them they lost their house because the elevator was out of service. That made this property inconvenient to them. This was my first experience with Vicasa and VRBO. I think I will go back to hotels and resorts…you know what you are getting.
The house did have ample kitchen accessories, towels, bedding. Beds were comfortable (well the two I tried). Screens were missing from several windows and sliders did not work well. You cannot see the beach…you can see waves and hear them. I got an early checkin which was convenient…and checkout was easy.

Kitchen was well stocked and top floor has great views of the water but no view of the beach due to the dunes. Beach access over the dunes was difficult to navigate for a few in our group. We enjoyed the hot tub under the stars at night! Overall great 4 night stay. The house does need a little work in some areas.

I received a call while enroute to location, cleaning team was running late and we would not have access until 7PM instead of 6PM. Unfortunately when we arrived at the property it appeared the house had a quick tidying done, the floors and carpet had not been swept and the A/C was not working on the 2nd floor. Later I found out that management was aware of the a/c issue but did not bother to inform me.
Overall this experience was not good for myself or my family due to the manner in which Vacasa handled or rather did not handle the issues with this property.
We will not be using Vacasa moving forward.

Enjoyed family time staying all together in this house. We had 8 adults and one child. The house nicely accommodated us all. The house appeared very clean on arrival, upon staying noticed clogged vents/air filters and very dusty ceiling fans. For the price, expected more pristine conditions. The carpet in the living room is obviously old and prompted us to wear our shoes at all times. A big negative for us is the walk back over the dunes from the beach, my 70+ mother who is very active and her husband (who has a knee replacement) could not make it back across the steep dune from the beach. The dune was steep and the extremely hot powdery sand made it difficult to climb even for us particularly if carrying beach essentials. Our solution for my parents was they walked on the beach to the Avon Pier, a little less than half a mile from the house, and we drove down and picked them up. Also, you cannot see the beach from the house but you can see the ocean from the top level deck. The chairs on the deck are very nice and we spent our evenings typically on the deck enjoying family time. The hot tub is small but clean, only a couple of our family used it during our stay. We had a request to adjust the temperature setting, and after calling twice and waiting overnight, the next day I was able to speak directly to the owner who addressed and solved our concerns. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you should need during your stay. Overall, the house is nice and I recommend staying there if you don't mind not having easy beach access. The dunes are beautiful though and we understand and admire their presence. I personally prefer to be closer and have easier beach access so my whole family can enjoy the beach anytime they desire.

We had some very frightening to me storms while staying in the house. The house was sturdy and weathered several days of high wind/high tides. It was very comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped, steamer pots, crock pots, crab leg tools… Close to the beach, but not too close!! House keeping wasn’t good, everything was coated in a sticky greasy film that dust stuck to. The furnace/ac filters had and inch of yuck on them, so we changed them. The light heading down stairs didn’t work, I was afraid of missing a step! Could use kitchen towels, even our navy lodge hotel room provides that!
If I’m brave enough to come back and brave another possible nor’easter, I would consider staying in this house again. Get some Norwex enviro cloths and get rid of that grime please!! I’m glad I brought mine along!!

Acceptable Accommodation
Clean with everything in working order. Unfortunately, the house is located at the end of what must be the most trashy street in Avon. Also, abundant dog poop and sand burs in the front yard. We killed approximately 15 flies in the house while there as well as two cockroaches. We would also suggest placing the attached hot tub lid so that it blocks the neighbors deck rather than the view of the ocean and night sky.

Great place!
Perfect house to stay with my family (5 kids and hubby). We enjoyed our first offseason stay after 20+ years of vacationing in OBX. The house offered beautiful ocean views and spacious living space. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Dog Paradise
This property was excellent. You truly can tell that the owners have put thought into their guests who travel with their dogs. The outside runs were great! However, the one next to driveway has a lot of sand spurs.
The views of the Dunes were amazing and the sunrises to die for!
The house was well stocked and had everything you would need! The kitchen had everything that you needed. We did not need to unpack a good bit that we brought. And there is a charcoal grill also.
Short walk to the beach for public access however the dune / walkway is a good climb down to the beach. And the climb back up takes a good bit.
All of our guest enjoyed the views, Avon is our favorite part of OBX! This property is perfect location!
We will definitely rent this place again!

Great location beautiful natural dunes and smooth beach. Very fortunate to have had beautiful 78° heat late October. Great recreation room and kitchen in the top of house. Kitchen well stocked and bathroom location fantastic. The shag carpet does seem to be a magnet for Sand Spurs so be careful. Upper deck and furniture are compliments to beautiful sunrises Hopefully return.

Enjoyed our stay. House was nice with exception of carpet. Imbedded sand spurs were a pain. Overall, very nice place. Enjoyed the deck immensely.

Beautiful!
House is right on the water, right down the beach from the pier. We spent the week sitting in the sand and taking in the ocean scenery. On the one day it rained, we just sat in the hot tub! Can't wait to stay again soon!

August 2021 Stay
Overall property was clean and worked out well for our stay. We had issues with response from property management regarding garbage pick up. Garbage was overflowing when we arrived and not picked up for the entire week. We made daily calls to Vacasa & notified realtor. Was told several times that it would be taken care of but it was never picked up. Created quite a mess with critters scattering garbage across property. A couple of notes to future renters - 1. Grill - is charcoal and inoperable. No handle on lid. 2. Beach access - no direct access from house to beach. Have to walk through neighbor's yard and use pubic access. May be difficult for elderly folks or anyone with health issues.

Highly recommend Avon, very chilled part of the OBX. Property was lovely, and having all bedrooms on a different level to the living room worked well for different bedtimes! Superb for dogs. Two different outdoor fenced in areas for pups to roam.

Awesome in Avon
Four long-time friends took a much-needed vacation in mid-July, and it was everything we wanted, thanks to Sand Dollar. The house is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked to the gills with pots, pans, appliances, utensils, dishes, etc. and has a great layout. They provide a starter of dish soap and detergent, but you bring everything else from the salt and pepper on up. The walk over the dunes to the beach is so short, and the beach itself, even in mid-July, was not that crowded. You can see the ocean from the upper deck, which now has new, tall Adironack chairs that are perfect for coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening and everything in between. The location is ideal if you want a laid-back vibe, plus you can drive 30 minutes to Hatteras to the south and Rodanthe to the north.
