About this house rental
This little cottage has been in our family for 5 generations. It was built in the 1880's and sat on a basement with modern amenities in 1949, then a deck was added in the early 2000's. In 2020 we remodeled the house, updated the wiring, and added wifi. In September 2023 we put split units both upstairs and down stairs adding heat and air condition. There is 1 bedroom, a dining room, living room and a full kitchen upstairs. The downstairs includes 2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom and a laundry room. It is furnished with our own eclectic blend of family antiques and flea market finds. There is also a deck with grill upstairs off of the kitchen for easy outdoor meals. Downstairs there is a nice back patio with easy access to a very large back yard, great for families and pets to enjoy. The front porch is adorned with two rocking chairs which provide a wonderful place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee.
This cottage is conveniently located off the side of Blue Ridge Road. The area is scenic, being in the mountains. There are lots of golf courses, hiking (Panthertown Valley, Pisgah National Forest, Nantahala National Forest, Gorges State Park), fishing (French broad river, Whitewater, Wolf Creek Lake, East Fork, North Fork of the French Broad), and waterfalls (Toxaway Falls, Whitewatwr Falls, Rainbow Falls, Schoolhouse Falls) within a few minutes of the house. The Lake Toxaway community center, which offers fun Friday nights with food and live music during the warm months, is only a short distance away, and has Tennis courts, a large play ground, a basketball goal, and a paved walking track. The beautiful Greystone Inn, a popular wedding and dining venue is less than 15 minutes away.
Lake Toxaway is a friendly community which enjoys all four seasons. Cool mountain air is very pleasant during the summer months, and the gorgerous leaves during the fall will simply mesmerize you. Winter offers nice mountain weather and Sapphire Valley has snow tubing and skiing available. On most trails you can find Wildflowers growing in abundance during the spring. Beauty can be found all around. Our little cottage is in the perfect location to offer all that the area has to give. We would be happy to have you make our place your perfect vacation destination.

Amazing! Even though my hosts were on vacation themselves they stayed in regular contact. These folks become friends on our first visit last fall and I can't say enough good things about the house and about their hospitality. Lovely visit

We thorughly enjoyed our stay at this cozy, historic mountain hideaway. We were 15 minutes away from Cold Mountain Trailhead at Panthertown, 15 minutes away from Tannassee Lake, and a only 22 minutes away from our Wolf Lake. We will be back in October. We can't wait to be back.

We had a short but very pleasant stay in the cute home. Very clean, comfortable beds, nice linens, and well stocked.

Loved this 1880s home, which is the oldest home still standing in Lake Toxaway. Intriguing family photos, letters, and memorabilia throughout the home will leave you mesmerized. There are history books to read, which
will give you an amazing perspective into life and business at the turn of the 19th century. I enjoyed learning how and why Lake Toxaway was established, and was astounded when I read about the 3 hurricanes that came through in the summer of 1916. After so much rainfall in a short period of time, the dam collapsed and sent a 30 foot wall of water, and 5 billion gallons of water down the mountain. You must come experience this amazing, relaxing environment and see some of the 28 waterfalls that I have counted so far. This is truly God's Country. You will know when you see it.

Great location as a guest at a Grey Stone Inn wedding! The house had everything we needed and a great place for our fur baby!

This home with so much family history was great for a three generations girls trip. We came up to see snow and let my daughter go skiing for the first time. It was a great location to where we were skiing (in Sapphire Valley). The surrounding area was lovely. The hosts couldn’t be nicer. Overall, we had a trip that we will always remember!

This was a happy last min booking for my family and I. The home was Super clean, dog friendly, and well done with all the amenities any family would need. Easy check in and out. We appreciated the snacks and the generations of history on the walls. My dogs really enjoyed huge back yard!

We were long term guests - five weeks. When we're not RVing we stay in VRBO properties and I must say this was the most delightful ever. Huge yard, three (yup THREE) porches, three very comfortable bedrooms, well equipped kitchen (recently remodeled), responsive owners. This home has been in the family for many generations and each room had photos and newsclippings and memorabilia - the sort of thing we've always loved for our own home. Several things we didn't expect. First, we knew there was only one bathroom so being used to the convenience of two we thought this might be a drawback - nope. Turns out it's a big bathroom so sharing was doable and we managed just fine. Second, my husband and I love to play cards and talk yet enjoy some alone time in our respective dens at home. Turns out the dining room was perfect not just for the usual stuff but seated six comfortably when we had company and gave us the time and space to do our own thing with our laptops set up opposite each other. The electric fireplace was an unexpected prize. We spent several evenings cozily snuggled on the living room couch enjoying it and each other. So what if it wasn't a "real" fire? Coming from south Florida where there is rarely ever a need for a fireplace this one turned out to be a real treat. We would stay at this property again and recommend it to others - without hesitation. And did I mention how kind and responsive the owners were? I did? Well, then, it deserves to be said again! :)

This property is a total doll’s house - small but charming. Everything provided that you might need except food, though there was a bowl of snacks on the kitchen table to get you started! Beautiful scenery and refreshing, cool mountain air. Pet friendly with a huge yard to run and play.

This little cottage was full of charm and neat and clean! The hosts provided excellent communication and directions for where we could find what we needed. They provided lots of unexpected extras that made the stay feel like "home." Everything we needed was provided by the hosts...laundry detergent, softener sheets, stain spray (Shout!), zip lock baggies for snacks on the trail and more! We especially enjoyed the variety of local maps and books about local attractions and history. We hiked to 29 waterfalls over the weekend and the literature was helpful and informational. We truly enjoyed our stay and will recommend this property to others who wish to visit the western North Carolina mountains.

Great home and very accommodating. Wifi was powerful enough for myself and the young adults to work on their projects.
One suggestion, even with with the top AC and a fan. The bottom level rooms had no ability to move air.

We loved this sweet farmhouse and will return next year! Just a note that the little drip coffee maker was not big enough, so we will bring one with us next year. It was so nice to bring our dog! We brought sheets for the furniture.
This may be helpful to others: I am very sensitive to chemicals and perfume, so we unplugged the air freshener in the kitchen and aired out the house. It dissipated quickly. It didn’t occur to me to ask about scented laundry detergent and the sheets. I’ll either bring sheets or unscented laundry detergent next year. Other than my personal annoying allergies, the house was perfect for us. Thank you!

This is a unique cottage built partially into a hill! Our whole family fell in love with the home and property. Lots of green space and hills for exploring, rolling down, playing frisbee. It was fun to see how deliberate the owners are with preserving the history while also making small changes to modernize it/allow for space. Great for birding, reading on the porch, drinking a coffee during a summer shower... We have stayed at a lot of vacation rental properties and this one tops the list as memorable. It's a great location for nearby hikes and waterfalls, lots of yummy restaurants too! Our four children (ages 2-8) spent a good deal of time making a fort after feeling inspired by a book at the cottage. And it was perfect for our dog to run around! If you can't tell, we truly loved the place.

Beautiful little house with a hugh yard just 2 minutes from the lake. Owners have thought of everything to make your stay easier. Coffee and snacks to get you started. All the little things that you normally forget to bring. This little house had it if you needed it. Loved it

We stayed for a quick weekend with our 2 dogs and had a wonderful stay. This property was a 10 minute drive from the Greystone Inn, where our friends got married, and about 15-20 min from Gorge State Park where we did the Rainbow Falls Trail, and had a blast!

There wasn't a thing we needed or wanted for. The property is extremely well appointed. Owners are very generous and thoughtful including snacks, coffee, even extra toothbrushes.
We would definitely book again if we're in the area.

Cute, very clean restored farm house. Good communication with owner. Would recommend to others.

All was fine. We were little disappointed that Lake Toxaway is 99% private. No fishing from the shore anywhere. House, location, etc. was fine. Hiking to water falls was great. Kitchen had everything we needed to make meals there. It was nice to have communication with the owner during they stay. Would go back again, now that we know the area etc.

Lovely home
Beautifully furnished. Felt like home.
The only bathroom is on the lower level where there are 2 bedrooms. One with a queen and one with twin beds.
I would definitely book here again. Perfect for our gigs in Toxaway.

Great place!
This was a lovely house in a great location--easy to get to Gorges State Park and Brevard. The rooms worked great for our group. The kitchen and porch were awesome! We had everything we needed. Communication with owners was easy and prompt.
Warning-the only bathroom is downstairs with a tight stairwell-so if there is someone with mobility issues, it might not be the spot for you. Also-the parking/access is a bit tight, just due to property terrain--it is the mountains! 2 cars might not work well. (These weren't our case-so we had no issues, but just thinking about what might be needed by others.)

Super clean, very nice place
This house was perfect for us during our recent stay. The first thing we noticed was how clean it was. Little things like snacks, coffee and toothbrushes were a really nice surprise and made the stay that much better. Hosts were nice enough to leave the porch light on, which was great since we arrived so late.
We can't reccomend it highly enough, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

Cozy, clean and comfortable. Could use a better TV system (please download Hulu, etc), but everything else was very nice. The only bathroom downstairs is also not for the faint of heart at night!

House was very clean but had a stale odor.
The house was very clean but it did have a slight odor. Not sure if it’s because of the age of the house and the substantial amount of rain they received before we came. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

Super cute little house!
Loved the welcoming atmosphere and the charm of this property! We are a family of four who got away to Lake Toxaway for the long weekend. The large back yard was wonderful. Loved the nice touch of live flowers!
