About this house rental
LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION! Chesapeake Dream is just 4 houses from the beach and 2 blocks from the main street with shopping, dining, and entertainment. A stately 3200 square foot restored Victorian built in 1912 comfortably sleeps 11, making for a perfect getaway for the multi-generational family and friends.
Sitting on a double, corner lot the fenced back yard provides family fun with a charcoal grill and plenty of grassy lawn for family games. Cornhole is provided, as well as a beach cart for your convenience. Or simply sit at the table in the backyard under the solar party lights and gaze at the large gardens with flowers pretty much all times of the year. Bring some firewood and make samores over the backyard fire pit or enjoy some drinks at the outdoor bar. There is also a fresh herb garden provided for the gourmet chefs to spice up their homecooked meals. The large columned wrap-around front porch provides plenty of space to host those special dinner parties, or simply just sit in the rockers and sip your coffee (or wine).
And don't forget the enclosed outdoor shower located right out the back door so you can wash off all the sand and go right into the house from there.
Come in off the porch through the vestibule. After entering the grand first-floor foyer, complete with a sitting area, gather the family for TV viewing or enjoy an adult beverage and conversation in the spacious living room after the children are safely snuggled in bed. Families will have more than enough room to enjoy meals together, whether it is a quick breakfast in the sunroom with a table seating 6 and a sitting area, or in the formal dining room seating 8, complete with a beautiful marble fireplace and a 100 plus-year-old pump organ (both for aesthetics only).
The bright white kitchen has modern appliances and is thoroughly stocked with anything you could possibly need to cook family meals at home if you are seeking a break from dining out at the fabulous local restaurants. Coffee lovers delight as it has a regular brewing coffee pot, Nespresso, and Keurig. Set off the kitchen is a lovely wood-paneled office with an oversized leather chair and oak desk for those who need a workstation. Through the office is a half bath, leading to the laundry room which provides a washer, dryer, a sink, a wine refrigerator, and a stand-alone freezer for additional storage for extras such as bait for the fishermen or perhaps a large ice cream cake for those special celebrations.
Up the original carved banister staircase, the second floor provides a queen master with an ensuite bath with bay windows looking down onto the tops of the crepe myrtles surrounding the house, a coastal beachy children’s room with 4 twin beds (one a fun trundle!), and a beautiful Victorian bedroom with a double bed. There is a spacious second-floor bathroom for these two bedrooms to share.
Take the next flight of stairs to the third-floor retreat, consisting of a king master ensuite with an extra twin bed. There are two window seats to curl up and read a book or catch a peek of the bay with exquisite sunsets. A table and chairs provide an additional workstation or extra space for games and puzzles.
Amenities include broadband internet with secured WiFi, 3 televisions (one on each floor) with satellite TV, a DVD player with a collection of movies to enjoy. Card decks and games are provided for some extra family fun in the evenings or on rainy days. The home is climate controlled with split-level HVAC units and for the winter months still uses snuggly radiant heat to warm those extra chilly nights. No matter what time of year you want to take a vacation or even a quick getaway from urban life, the owners of Chesapeake Dream welcome you and your family with a nice gift of gratitude for your visit to their home.
For those curious about the surrounding area, Cape Charles is a historic Victorian railroad town hugging the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. This area offers everything for all personality types. For the adventurous, there are plenty of water and land activities, like kayaking, paddleboarding, and bicycle rentals. Like hiking? There are plenty of nature trails and beach dunes nearby. Is golfing your thing? There are two golf courses at nearby Bay Creek (one is a Nicklaus and one is a Palmer). If you bring your own boat, there is a public boat launch in the harbor. The public pier provides fishing and crabbing opportunities without the need for a fishing license. The calm waters of the Bay provide plenty of family fun and swimming along the public beach. Don’t forget to stop at the LOVE sign on the corner of Bay Avenue and Mason Street for your photo op. Also, Cape Charles is a golf cart-friendly town, but don’t worry, if you don’t have your own, there are two rental places in town. For the history buff, don’t miss the Cape Charles Museum in town and the Barrier Island Center just north on Route 13.
After all the daily activities, feeling a little hungry and desiring some entertainment? Chesapeake Dream sits just 2 blocks to Mason Street where you will find plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment. On summer Friday nights, you can even catch live music on Strawberry Street at the Lemon Tree Gallery or at the C-Pier at the Oyster Farm on Friday and Saturday nights, just a quick bike or golf cart ride away. Both offer drinks to enjoy while listening. There are also free summer concerts in the park on Saturday nights where they bring in diverse bands and exemplify the town’s warm and friendly spirit. Festive Fridays in late November and early December are a great way to kick off the holidays.
Day trips to Chincoteague Island, Tangier Island, Colonial Williamsburg, or Virginia Beach open up new opportunities for adventure.
During peak season a week minimum rental required. Check in is 4:00 pm on Sundays. Check out is 10:00 am on Sundays. We are more flexible in the shoulder seasons.

We loved our stay. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you could ever need. Loved having the third floor which had a door at the bottom of the stairs and a bathroom. Perfect for multiple families. Location couldn't have been better. We walked everywhere we needed to go within a few minutes. Highly recommend!

What a fabulous place! Chesapeake Dream has everything going for it: a GREAT location with easy walkability to the beach and downtown Cape Charles (~ 2 blocks to each); spacious accommodations throughout the house; a wonderful wrap-around porch for relaxing, reading, and visiting; a spacious backyard that includes a firepit; and all the beach equipment (beach chairs, wagon, etc.) one could need. Our multigenerational party of nine had plenty of spaces to be together or to be separate from one another if desired. The two large dining areas provided a place for all of us to share meals together as well as a craft space for the children in our group. The kitchen was spacious and well-equipped (the cooks among us loved the double oven, stovetop, and multiple fridges). As is not unusual for rentals, we supplemented the available dishes and flatware with paper plates and plastic forks, etc., but this also lightened the dishwashing duties considerably. Cape Charles itself is an additional asset to the house due to its charm and walkability (even for young children). Once you are there, there is virtually no need to use your car for anything (especially if you do as we did and order your groceries ahead of time from Food Lion, the only major grocery store in the area). Finally, the owners/property manager were top notch – proactive communicators throughout the rental process and immediately responsive to our needs. Chesapeake Dream is just that -- a vacationer's dream!!!

We had a fantastic week with family! The house was perfect for our needs, clean and week appointed! The information cards were helpful. This house will be our top choice when we return!

From the first moment we walked up, we knew we picked the right home for our stay in Cape Charles. Beautiful home, great yard, amazing porch, and so many nice touches to make you feel welcome. Ideal proximity to the shopping district, beach, and pier. Comfortable beds, and well-appointed kitchen and living areas. Outdoor amenities and lighting also outstanding. Perfect amount of space for two families of three. Only drawback is that this house did not come with a golf cart. You don't need one as close as it is to everything, but if you want the true "feel" of Cape Charles vacationing, strongly recommend booking one from the local purveyors. Oh, and did I mention the porch? Great for morning coffee, afternoon reading, and evening cocktails. Overall, a fantastic home. Responsive property manager and great property.

This is the second time we have stayed here and it was just as perfect as the first time. Lots of space for all of us to spread out. Every detail was considered. Loved the well appointed kitchen and two refrigerators! Endless hours were spent at the beach and on the front porch. Definitely recommend this convenient property! We will be back!

This house was lovely! It had everything we needed for a great stay! The location is PERFECT! Close to everything and especially the beach. This is the perfect beach town for everyone but really nice for families. I cannot how much we enjoyed our stay!
Thank you for offering your home on VRBO. We hope to make it an annual gathering at Chesapeake Dream!

Lovely house, very clean, and a perfect location to go to the beach or to stroll through the town. Porch perfect for coffee in the morning or happy hour in the evening.

Had 6 friends down for a golf trip. Enjoyed the fire pit and grill provided. Many in the group had never been to Cape Charles. All want to come back

Gosh! The Dream house was perfect for our reunion with my cousins. It was perfect to walk two blocks to beach! And four blocks to town. I bought my bikes but you can rent bikes or a golf cart if you want to ride around. The house was charming with 3 bedrooms on second floor. If you can’t climb stairs this house might not be for you. There is a half bathroom off of kitchen. Lovely sunroom/ dining area right off of kitchen which is stocked. For extra space, there is a lovely front porch which we enjoyed. Personally the house and Cape Charles is lovely but for the active adult/ teens, Cape Charles might be a little boring after a couple of days but you can always seek out adventures on the Eastern Shore..

Beautiful home and super quick host response to any questions we had. My only concern was some of the phrasing in the rental contract when I booked the property - I felt like I needed my own attorney to review it. But I went for it anyway, and we had absolutely no problems. A great property and host!

It was difficult to relax with the children in the house since so many things were off limits. The house was lovely. Décor of shells contained choking hazards for little ones. We had to move those things.

Perfect Location
The house is located perfectly close to the beach, you won’t even need the golf cart. All the restaurants and shops are walkable even if you are traveling with kids.
The amount of signs in the house with instructions is overwhelming and doesn’t make you feel very comfortable, like couple other reviews had mentioned, but we mostly laughed about the tone of those little notes and didn’t take it very personal. My 6yo daughter made it her mission to make sure everyone uses coaster for every glass and even plates on every surface.
Couple small issues where the manager didn’t respond to the email, and the owner ended up showing up unannounced to water plants on the porch (something we were already doing, one of the instructions on a small note) but we still enjoyed our stay very much.
The yard is very beautiful and the house had a lot of gear for the beach provided.

Charm galore in the perfect location
Beautiful home full of charm in the perfect location. We didn't drive once we arrived - could literally walk everywhere we wanted. Would recommend for groups with older people (no kids) as there are a lot of personal items and antiques in the home. The decor did make it feel like you were staying in a home, not a rental property, but I can see it being a nightmare for those with small or rambunctious children. So glad we got to experience Cape Charles with this as our home away from home.

Great house- great little town!
Plenty of room inside and a fantastic front porch for porch sitting and dining. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed to
cook Thanksgiving dinner, including a crockpot and a Kitchenaid mixer! We rented golf carts and toodled around town and explored. They have off-road paths to reach parts out of the golf cart zone. Family members took the short walk to the beach and pier to go fishing, as well. Very friendly town!

The title sums it up a Chesapeake Dream. Comfortable prewar Victorian home on an amazing lot only 1 block from the beach and shops. Made for an easy stay. Pack the sunscreen and bug spray if you enjoy the outdoors as much as we do. Many of the items in the house are not little kid friendly as the house is filled with tchotchkes and antiques with notes reminding you not to touch them. The house was ideal for our family and we can’t wait to return to Cape Charles.

Special Vacation thanks to the Chesapeake Dream
Memorable vacation in a little gem of a town. Beautiful house with thoughtful amenities, fully stocked kitchen with soaps, towels and little extras. The notes really showed us a bit about the family and how much this home means to them, thank you for sharing and telling a little history in each special piece. The library was a meticulous balance of classic and modern. It was so difficult to choose which room inside or sitting area outside to read! I could have stayed for 3 more weeks. Just heaven on earth! And my mother had the most awesome 60th birthday with her kids & grandkids. This long weekend meant a lot to her.

Enjoyable week
This house is in the best location to the beach and the shops. We appreciated everything about the house. The only downside was we had slow internet for the week, otherwise we enjoyed the week.

The house is even better in person. The pictures don’t do it justice. There is plenty of space. The mattresses were all comfortable. The location is fantastic.
Expect to use lots of bug spray or be eaten alive, but that’s just ESVA in general. I’m not sure if it would help, but spraying for mosquitoes might be something to look into or even just planting things that keep them away so it’s easier to enjoy the gorgeous yard and porch without covering yourself in Deet.
Another suggestion I have is that the owners consider making a binder with information for the house and possibly Cape Charles in general (like putting in restaurant menus, for instance). We didn’t figure out that the second and third floors were on their own thermostat until the third day and it was miserably hot in the third floor until that discovery! It would also be nice to give some description of where to find things. For instance, we had to hunt for a fan for the third floor and an extension cord for our golf cart.
Several other people have mentioned the little notes they have everywhere. A lot of them were completely reasonable and common courtesy reminders. They do have a lot of things on display and antiques that they didn’t want used or for people to be careful of. My suggestion to the owners is that you would probably be better off just not having so many of those kinds of things in a rental house.
I also would recommend listing more of the amenities that the house has so guests don’t have to call with questions or bring things that then aren’t needed.
We could have used a couple more hand towels in the kitchen and more trash bags for the big bin in the kitchen.
Overall though, the house was lovely and we had a fabulous vacation!

The property is beautiful; the notes all over the house give an unwelcoming vibe
We enjoyed our stay at this place .The house is 1 block from the beach, the garden and porch are beautiful , the beds are very comfortable. We are giving the overall experience a 4/5 for several reasons:
We stayed at vacation rentals many times before and appreciate the post it notes to help orient ourselves in an unfamiliar space but the reiteration in every note of "our house "to convey it’s a rental and that we needed to be careful was unnecessary. It gives an unwelcoming vibe. Some other homeowners in this same rental business have a set of rules that they give you in advance or publish with their property this might be a better option.
The day before check out the gardeners show up at the backyard,a simple warning that the gardner and crew were showing up would have been appreciated or since we checked out the next morning perhaps rescheduling would've been an option.

Fantastic house in a fantastic place!
This house is extremely well maintained and well stocked, and very comfortable for a big group with easy access to the beach and Mason Ave. Love the huge wrap around porch and lovely flower filled yard. A clothesline to hang towels on in the back yard near the outdoor shower would be a great addition.

Great Location
Loved how close this house was to the beach and the shops. Highly recommend renting a golf cart. The layout of the house and the big wraparound porch were great. The house was perfect for our group, 2 couples and 2 toddlers. The only negatives were that, as mentioned in previous reviews, there were small notes everywhere, sometimes multiple in the same room, with detailed instructions on how to wash certain plates, not to touch certain items, and strangely, not to let the headboards on certain beds get wet. I understand the owners wanting to protect their house and items inside but it often felt like we were walking on eggshells, which did not feel very vacation-y, especially with toddlers around. The other thing was that before we arrived we were told the ice maker was in need of repair, and that the repair man would be arriving to meet at the house with the property manager on our second day. That person never came, and we never heard from the property manager about it. The town and beach are lovely, and overall we really enjoyed our experience at Chesapeake Dream.

Lovely vacation spot
The house is perfectly located and has great space for our family. Well equipped and comfortable. We definitely felt on edge with the multiple notes in each room about not touching furniture or doing this or that, especially with young kids.
