About this cabin rental

The Yogi is a new, modern, four-season, log-sided cabin on Lake Algonquin in the southern Adirondack mountains. The Yogi and the Dakota were built in 2016 by David and Jennifer Woodward of Wells, NY. The cabins were named after their two dogs they raised for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. My Wife Crystal and I have been guests at both cabins many times throughout the years. David and Jennifer were always the most gracious of hosts which made the experience that much more special.

In 2022 Crystal and I became the new owners of the cabins. We could not be more thrilled to be able to continue to enjoy the cabins and to have the opportunity to share them the with our guests.

We are a family friendly property requiring guests to be a minimum age 25 unless accompanied by a guardian. Dogs are welcome with prior approval. In the spring, summer, and fall, enjoy canoeing, kayaking and fishing using our canoe and kayaks. Paddle up the Sacandaga River or over to Lake Algonquin directly from our property . Our boats are available based on spring and fall weather. Boats are always available from May 15th to October 1st. Our grill is charcoal, just bring your charcoal and lighter fluid and enjoy outdoor cooking! - or just sit back and enjoy the wilderness that is the North Country. Behind the cabin is a large flat area for activities and a fire pit for s'mores and relaxing in the evenings. On a clear night, the stars are amazing!

It's a short walk or drive to the town beach, where you can swim or soak up the sun. Or, explore the many hiking trails in the area, leading up mountains, to waterfalls, or into the solitude of the forest.

In the fall, the leaves are spectacular! There are many beautiful scenic byways you can drive right from our doorstep.

In the winter, enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, ice skating and snowmobiling. Hamilton County has some of the best Snowmobiling in NY. Our cabin is directly on the NYS trail system with access to hundreds of miles of groomed, marked snowmobile trails. We also have plenty of parking for your snowmobile trailer.

The first floor features a new modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, a microwave oven and a coffeemaker. The dining room features seating for six. The living room is decorated in Adirondack style and includes a 46" flat-screen television with DIRECTV, Netflix and a DVD player. There is a full bathroom downstairs. The downstairs bedroom has a full-sized bed and a closet. There is a washer and dryer in the hall across from the bathroom. Out back, through the sliding door, is a large screened-in porch. Out front is a full porch and a ramp for handicap accessibility.

The second floor has a bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a walk-in closet. A second upstairs bedroom has twin bunks with a trundle bed and a 32" flat-screen television with DIRECTV and a DVD player. The second floor also has full bathroom with a shower.

There is W-Fi with high speed internet and a land-line telephone. The cabin is equipped with central heating and air-conditioning.

The cabin is conveniently located on NYS Route 30 and is set back 350 feet from the road, down a paved driveway with a 65' X 105' paved parking area.

We are located 3 hours and 45 minutes from New York City, 4 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Montreal and 90 minutes from Albany.

We loved everything about this cabin. It was very family friendly. Lots of board games and an adorable room for children. We brought up our 16 year old dog and she was comfortable. Covers for the sofa, dog bed and dishes provided. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. The owners thought of everything to help feel like youre home.

Cabin was comfortable and just as the listing states. Best part was river access via the supplied canoes and kayaks so we can ride them the short trip to Algonquin lake! Highly recommend! We’d come back here year after year if there wasn’t so much of the ADK to see!

We enjoyed our stay. House was amazing very clean. Had everything we needed. Yard was great, wish there was a whole fence so dogs could run, the water was more like a murky cove then a river. Couldnt swim in it that was disappointing. Kayaking was great, well mainained kayaks. Screened porch was awesome. Had many game nights out there. The beds were not comfortable at all, tough sleep. Over all though i would give a 4. The hiuse was great, short drive or walk to lake.

We had a great time at the cabin. The place was clean and it had everything you could need. There were games, a fire pit and canoes all of which my family really enjoyed. We would definitely stay here again.

This was a great stay, the property person was wonderful and responsive, the owners seem to think of everything, the guide book was so helpful in decided what to do. The instructions were clear. I would strongly recommend this place.

It was a wonderful clean place to stay in the mountains with friends. The amenities were much appreciated- games, snacks, books, DVDS, kayaks/canoes and back porch. Our families had a blast even when it rained a huge part of our trips. The space was really nice for two families to enjoy together and not be on top of one another. Highly recommend.

Property was conveniently located. Even though it's right on route 30 there was no road noise obvious. There were nightlights in every room, and good lighting in the bedrooms and living room. Kitchen is well equipped with lots of counter space and new appliances. The whole house was spotlessly clean! John's property guidebook was detailed and clear, and there were lots of references for local activities, dining, and shopping. The bunkbed room has twin bunkbeds and a low, slide out trundle that stayed attached to the frame (or maybe it was operator error!) So the person in the bottom bunk would have to climb over the trundle if they got up in the night. In the description it appeared there was a separate full size bed, plus the bunkbeds. The dining table comfortably sat us all for meals, jigsaw puzzles and games. The screened porch is a lovely spot, but we didn't use it as our stay was in the middle of winter! Lots of wild birds frequent the yard, with 8 species spotted within the first few minutes. A lively red squirrel wasvery entertaining one afternoon! About the only complaint is that the couch and loveseat in the living room weren't very comfortable for some of us.

All communication with John was helpful, supportive and timely, starting with our initial contact when renting through our departure. My family came to Wells for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I can honestly say that John's place gets a 10/10. John was very timely and responsive in connecting with me, and answering questions. His house was immaculate, and had all the necessities of home. We had 2 medium size dogs. John left a gift for the dogs, and some people treats.! We had 5 adults sleep in, and 2 more visiting during the day. Even though the living/family room isn't all that big, it could accommodate us. We didn't use the yard, but I did notice if you bring a dog, the fence is actually off the ground, by about 2-3 ft, acting more like a perimeter than an enclosed fence, so if you have dogs, the yard is not secure. Thank You John, for a wonderful stay.

The cabin is beautiful and spacious. It is near some nice kayaking and hikes. The owner generously left snacks, coffee and good cooking equipment. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and serene place to stay!

We figured out that there were 2 rentals near each other, just didn't realize we'd be sharing the backyard. 2 fire pits, but one big yard and when there's kids and a dog running around in "their " yard, it doesn't exactly do peaceful vacation or privacy when you're outside. Nice cabin though, with all the amenities, but I wouldn't rent again unless I knew who was next door.

The Yogi is a very lovely cabin. We would definitely do it again sometime. Very quiet area, nice property to stay at. It was so easy to reserve and communicate with owners, just a text message away for anything needed or just letting them know we arrived and was leaving. We really loved the place, so glad we found it and it was available when we wanted a place to stay for a few days.

This cabin is great and in a nice quiet town. The hosts could run a course on how to be a host. Very clean, lots of amenities, a guide book about the cabin and things to do, very organized and great communication. We used the kayaks and canoe, they even have life jackets for your dog. We didn’t feel like any amenities were missing in the cabin. First time for us being emailed a guide book which helped us plan out our days in advance. Overall excellent!

We stayed in the Yogi for 4 nights and it was a wonderful, peaceful and Clean cabin. The WiFi was better than ours at home. The screen in porch was so nice to just sit and read. Our dog just relaxed out there for hours. Looking around these 2 cabins appear to be the newest and best cabins in Wells! We crossed the street and had breakfast. There is a large store in Speculator for groceries.

The Yogi is a fantastic rental for a nice weekend or week away to enjoy the outdoors without having to rough it. The house was extremely clean and well stocked with everything in excellent condition. It was spacious even with a large family and dog. The host made use feel welcome with all the comforts of home. There is a lot of great hiking and boating near by with only a short drive. Yummy restaurant within walking distance (limited hours). Our favorite part of the house was the screened in porch for meals and games. When we return we hope to rent the cabin next door too so we can enjoy the property with more family members.
