I can't remember, and I don't understand why I just got a review when I stayed here almost a year ago.

Beautiful private area with beach. Wonderful spot

My husband and I stayed in this rental for a few days recently. We were looking for a peaceful property right on the water, “away from it all”. This property was perfectly adequate in most ways - the view is lovely, the beach access (for combing, NOT swimming - lots of weeds, kind of stinky) was enjoyable, the screened porch is a good touch. But there were a few things that could use improvement. The toilet in the main bathroom is not exactly connected to the floor, multiple sections of screen around the porch were torn so lots of bugs got in, and the cleanliness left quite a bit to be desired. The bath towels smelled clean but had multiple questionable stains, almost every wall had spots/stains/crud/scuffs, there were spider webs in the bathtub & around the kitchen sink & in most corners, the kitchen island was in serious need of attention (water damage?) and the entire house smelled mildewy and damp. Despite the cleaning concerns, we enjoyed our time and visiting the cute towns in the area.

Quiet and peaceful retreat. Be sure to arrive before dark or you’ll have trouble finding.

Want to be fair in this review:
House was in a good alcove (private drive) and the view down the ocean path was great. Neighbors friendly and surrounding villages - everyone was nice, friendly and helpful.
The house itself was minimally equipped (which if you are from out of state can be a little difficult) so no extra blankets, towels, pillows or even bug spray. Property instructions were pretty abrupt. On the upside, the screened in porch is a great touch and really nice in the early morning and evenings.
Property hasn’t really been maintained very well and at night the septic became a bit overwhelming forcing us to close doors & windows :-(.
Our overall feeling about this property besides the scarcity of hospitality was its placed there simply to make money for the owner.
Outside at the ocean bank - the view is beautiful and peaceful - but be prepared to see quite a bit of debris collected on the banks that no one has bothered to remove (even the previous seasons temporary stairs). Be extra careful descending the stairs and all the debris to actually reach the waters edge.
It’ll do if you need a place to rest your head. Outside of that, no much in amenities or warmth….

Our family enjoyed the clean, updated, and nicely decorated cottage. The screened back porch was a favorite spot to see the beautiful view, have morning coffee and evening meals while listening to the ocean. Thank you for having laundry on-site (including detergent and dryer sheets) along with fresh Primo drinking water! We also appreciated the well-stocked kitchen with pots, pans, etc. The lower humidity and temperatures were a bonus! The Seaside Cottage was a quiet and relaxing space for our vacation :)

Gorgeous ocean view, secluded and peaceful location. Screened in porch on back of house is the best feature of this house. Surrounded by fields of wildflowers and butterflies with a mowed path to the water. A great place for creating art.
The house is plain, but well equipped. We had everything we needed, with exception of a functioning television, and no air conditioning (even though original VRBO listing showed both TV and AC). Pleased that our AT&T phones and WiFi worked though - especially after reading previous reviews.
We appreciated convenience of nearby Port Clyde (coffee shop, general store, Puffin boat tour, art gallery)
Would be nice to have some printed guides/recommendations/things to do, etc. in the house too.
A few negatives (all are fixable):
Beach access is blocked by piled up driftwood at the base of wooden stairs. Could not get to water’s edge at all!
All exterior doors (and slider screen door) have issues (swollen shut, rusted, locks don’t work, broken hooks, etc.). We could only use one door - next to the garage.
House appeared clean upon arrival, but we found many dead bugs (and some ALIVE) in kitchen, laundry room, garage, and in light fixtures. Mosquitos rule here in the evening!
A person came mid-week to mow the grass. All our windows were open (with screens in place), yet everything inside the house was covered with a fine dirt and dust - kind of a mess.

Great views from front and back of property. The deck was perfect for early morning coffee and late afternoon beverages!

Having owned overnight rental property, I know how inappropriate guest feedback can be at times. We LOVED our stay at Seaside Cottage! The location is private and quiet with magnificent ocean views. We had everything we needed as the home is well-stocked with basics, and there’s a cute general store about 5 min away for other needs. We did not notice any musty smell except very slightly in the garage. The water is fine- no clue what people expect from coastal water. The 1/2 bath in the laundry room was great. A LOT of thought was made to details in this cottage and we will be back for sure, if for no reason other than the porch! Don’t miss McLoons, Happy Clam and Causeway- all great and not a bad drive. My only suggestions are to clean up driftwood a bit at beach access and better curtains for night time privacy. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Stayed here for a week in late June and for the most part we were pleased with our choice. The house is very comfortable with roomy kitchen, a nice screened patio and a king mattress set in one of the two bedrooms. Can't say there was anything charming about the place in an area full of charming homes but we were ok with that as the pictures showed us what to expect. The location is probably the biggest selling point as it was somewhat remote, very quiet and situated close to the water. The beach itself is only good for walking at lower tide as it is very rocky but certainly a peaceful place to enjoy the water. That being said, across the road and probably only 500' feet away on the other side of the peninsula the beach was deeper and less rocky so nice very for walking.
Anyone staying here should be aware that there are basically no dining options closer than about 25 minute drive to Rockland or a few miles farther in Camden. Plenty of choices in those towns. There is a little market that has all the essentials and you can order pizza from about 5-7 minutes away.
The one issue we had with the place (and this is probably just showing our age) was the television access. The listing shows TV as and amenity but the TV is actually just a monitor that you are expected to connect your device to so you can stream your shows. This proved to be basically impossible as the internet was rarely strong enough or consistent enough to watch anything uninterrupted for much more than 5 minutes at a time. While we didn't make the trip to watch TV, it would have been a nice option to have on the couple rainy days we had. I think to be fair, the listing should be changed from advertising a TV, (which a guy like me thinks will be something already connected to access to watching programming) to advertising a monitor you can connect to without a good internet connection.
The TV issue was hardly a deal breaker, as I said, it wasn't a high priority for us. The biggest appeal was the quiet, peaceful setting by the water. We left Indiana in the middle of a hot, humid stretch so the cool weather (mid-60's and mostly sunny) was a welcome change too.
We'll visited Maine before, enjoyed our stay this time and will surely come back again. Not one to book the same place twice but will likely use Vacasa again as all of our previous experiences have been positive.

A new house with some old parts? We got in the house just fine with the key, but then we couldn't get the front door shut. It needed a body slam to close it. So we had to walk around back to use the slider to get in and out-- which didn't have a key. The shower head only worked on one setting, indicating it was used andclogged. And the kitchen cabinets had staining on them at the bottom as though they had gotten wet in a previous life. It was pretty obvious up against the brand new floor. It seemed like we might have been the first renters as we had a hard time trying to get the pull out couch to open-- then we discovered it was still strapped with plastic ties that needed to be cut off with a knife. And the mattress was still in a plastic bag. Our third person opted to just sleep on the cushions. It was disappointng to have the wifi down (even with a credit) because we were there on a work weekend. There should be a notebook of information-- wifi password, expectations, how to get the lamps synced with the switches? This place has a wonderful location and will get there. . . but there is work to be done. We liked the water color paintings!

The location was very private, which is just what we wanted. We saw tons of cool wildlife including a coyote, a bobcat, and lots of sea birds. The house is OK, but there were a few things that made our trip less than perfect.
The house smelled strongly of mold and was very damp. We would often try to sit on the patio, but there was a very strong sulfur smell that would drive us back inside. We tried to locate the source, but could not figure it out. It wasn't the tide because the odor was there at high tide and low tide. Our best guess is some sort of septic issue. The drinking water at the house also smelled and tasted strongly of sulfur and iron, so we didn't drink it. We bought 10 gallons of water to use.
The other issues that we had are fixable, and I hope that Vacasa takes this complaint seriously. I booked this place in particular because it was remote and had a wireless router and streaming capability - indicating wifi. However, when we arrived, we discovered that there is no router and there is no wifi. We wanted to get some work done in a quiet, remote location, but it was almost impossible. I sent Vacasa an email asking for help, but they do not respond (I will never book with Vacasa again).
There are very few curtains in the house (2 half curtains). This leaves little privacy in the main bedroom and living room, and also doesn't allow you to sleep past sunrise. The biggest issue related to this is that on our second to last day we walked back to the house after a short stroll down the street to find two strange men looking into our windows. We approached them and they said that they work for Vacasa and that they were hoping to empty the garbages. They apologized for intruding and left. I do believe that they work for Vacasa, since they told us that they tried to call their boss and they didn't respond (that seems to be the company's way of doing business).
I wish I could say better things about this property, but I would probably avoid it if you can, find a place that is a better value somewhere near a restaurant and somewhere that has the services described on the website.
