This is a really, really lovely hotel. It is a little bit of a step back in time, but in a lovely way. A really grand building that has been well kept whilst it is still possible to imagine how grand it would have appeared to people when first built. It made me smile whenever I was walking around it. I was there on business, but Carlisle seems like a very interesting place ... I will be back to both Carlisle and the Crown and Mitre!

Check in very slow waited 15 mins whilst reception dealt with one person and before any other person came to help
4.1
Had a steak at hotel & it was like rubber they said they would do another. But the chef should have got it right first time .canealled breakfast .
4.1
Broken shower, toilet not flushed upon arrival, paid for a premium kimg room but didn’t look like the one in pictures.
Old furniture and cramped up. No space to move. Checked out a few hours and didn’t return.
4.1
Lovely hotel with everything needed for a night away
4.1
Booked hotel for 2 nights when checking room pillows were filthy snd stained and matress protector changed rooms sgain pillows and bedding dirty and stained moved to 3rd room again pillows filthy and protector on bed badly stained snd marked ended up moving to another hotel so spoilt weekend
4.1
Hot water was not available until after
10 PM due to high volume of guests. Also, stayed in a building were rooms were next to cathedral and bells were chiming throughout the night until late evening around 11 PM. Also heavy construction is occurring throughout the city center were the hotel is located. Be Aware!
4.1
It’s a cool hotel on the interior of a little dated. There is construction happening in the pedestrian area out front so it was a bit noisy.
4.1
Great location in the city, staff where exceptional and very friendly
4.1
A lot of construction going on at the square in front of the hotel, but that isn’t the hotel’s fault, of course. Otherwise, it was all good — very friendly staff and our room was clean and lovely.
4.1
Very hard to find parking. Staff friendly but scruffy a bit like the hotel .. well past its prime
4.1
The hotel is tired in some places, work has been done on one part of the hotel to refurbish the rooms, which i would describe as a light touch up as fixtures, fittings and thr shower is still dated. Hotel room was very clean and the bed was comfortable.
The main issue is around the breakfast booking through hotels.com you have to pay 22.50 for it even if the room is for one person. However on the day the breakfast can be brought for 10.50. The breakfast is not the best very average.
4.1
You have to walk through the hotel, out the back door, through the car park next to the dumpsters to get to the room.
Worn carpet, missing carpet, dirty carpet, curtains, woodwork with mars and large pieces missing, sheet with stains on them, lamp shades coming apart, hole in the wall and so on.
4.1
Booked as listed with EV charging.
On arrival was told the car park was full and had to pay to park in a local public car park.
4.1
Staff were excellent, manager superb and customer service beyond call of duty

Church bell on the hour and every hour , no good when it’s 1am , 2am, 3am ….. and so on
4.1
Nice hotel, room was small but bed was comfortable. We enjoyed dinner and a lovely cooked breakfast. Staff were friendly.
4.1
Overall we had a good stay.
Great points: Comfy beds, excellent customer service, excellent breakfast. Swimming pool and jacuzzi.
Not so great bits: full car park, only two EV car chargers and one of them had been “ICE’d”, i.e. internal combustion engine car blocking the charger.

Breakfast was very disappointing, with overcooked bacon and solid fried eggs. On our second day - a fairly quiet Saturday - there was no buffet breakfast and we asked for soft eggs - 3 out of 4 still arrived solid. I felt the waitress taking our order was not very accommodating and hadn't specified "soft". We waited about 45 minutes for food to arrive. We were there on business and didn't anticipate spending an hour at breakfast! Lovely hotel, but if we stay there again we'll have breakfast elsewhere.
4.1
Was nice enough, but a little dated
4.1
Old fashioned hotel in a beautiful building but that's what makes it so charming. That said, the facilities are modern with a great bedroom and bathroom.
4.1
Did what we needed it to.
4.1
Had a twin room for 2 nights - staff were excellent, had dinner one night and breakfast and all was brilliant.

Remembered the Crown & Mitre from over 40 years ago, but this was my first ever stay - and dog-friendly to boot. It’s a bit tired in places, but the room was comfortable, clean and decently equipped.
I landed lucky with a car parking space on arrival, though to be honest, there are a number of reasonable public car parks only a short walk away.
Bar prices were *very* reasonable - especially for a hotel ! The only drawback was a group of very sweary customers who spent some time in the bar, leading me and another gentleman to leave for public space elsewhere in the hotel.
Of particular note were the cleaning staff I encountered in the annexe building - young, but very polite and friendly - and clearly good at their job!
4.1
It's a decent hotel. Nothing to write home about, but serves its purpose.
4.1
Convenient central location and friendly helpful staff
4.1
Really nice hotel, especially loved the staircase and the artwork. The only thing I would recommend for improvement would be to ditch the shower curtain for a screen - no-one wants a shower curtain sticking to them - but otherwise an excellent stay
4.1
Great position. Staff friendly and helpful. Some rooms, at least, are a bit tired, though some refurbishment is in progress.
4.1
Private area for parking, quick check in and options to dine in the bar or restaurant. Good range of drinks. Bed was comfortable, but no a/c or fan in the room. A cosy sized swimming pool and a very good jacuzzi. Lovely breakfast with good service
4.1
Very friendly staff . Hotel has been and was being extensively renovated and it showed . No tired old hotel . Back to its grand old self I would imagine. Excellent location . Very very clean .
Only down side for me , parking was tight and the fire doors bang - but that’s seemingly every hotel in the uk !

Check in 2pm room was hot ready till 3.30

Property in great location. Rooms very clean however very dated. Quite busy at check in with a few rooms still not ready by 2.30.
4.1
Great location. Disappointing room as access was through the carpark. Very small room with washbasin in bedroom not the bathroom. Expensive for what we got. Breakfast was served up to 930am. We went around 9am and there was nothing left as regards cereal etc. Hot plates were empty too and staff reluctant to fill them. Quite a Disappointing stay overall.

The room was ideal bonus to see the sunrise. The hotel is definetly dog friendly .Ideal position in the town . Only down side -food in bar was rather expensive ,eveyone seemed to be having the burger and chips as it was the cheapest thing on the menu.£18 and the portion was small .but everthing else was great .
4.1
A pleasant enough stay in a formerly rather grand hotel that is starting to show its age in decor. Very pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. Starnge that the disabled parking bay was reserved for a non blue badge holder leaving us to squeeze into a very inaccessible space. Breakfast was a let down and not worth the £10 fee. Chef may have been to military catering school.
4.1
Good location. Old hotel but full of character.
4.1
Good hotel great location staff very helpful
4.1
Old fashioned city centre hotel that was clearly lavished upon in the past when built but recent modernisations have not been sympathetically implemented.
The disabled assistance for the front door did not work and the door itself was a cheap aluminium section.
It’s a great pity because the staff were great and tried really hard to make sure that I was comfortable and had everything I needed.
4.1
Stay here for a stopover on a longer trip(every year). Lovely staff. Great location.
4.1
We had a great one night stay. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful Excellent value with the free parking and free EV charging points. Great location close to shops, restaurants and bars . Train station 5 mins walk.
