Nice Lodge in the middle of the Namib desert

Namib Desert Lodge was such a lovely place to stay. The rooms and lodge were comfortable and well-kept; the food in the restaurant was great; the service was wonderful. They offered great excursions for guests who were interested in this.

My GoPro was lost there and they found it and then delivered it to Etosha Safari Lodge, another hotel of the same company, where we stayed a few days later. This tells a lot positively about this company. On this trip we only used Gondwana hotels and services. The company didn’t disappoint us. I highly recommend Gondwana.

Nice place, friendly staff. Good family room. For dinner there were only meat options but the chef was able to prepare fish which was very nice. Also the quota on internet was a bit inconvenient. But a very nice place overall also for families.

The service here definitely stands out as these are some of the nicest and most helpful hosts I’ve ever met. However, the facilities are also excellent with good food. Excursion is also awesome and well worth the price.

Wonderful stay and incredible service. Stayed in the tented camp, was very well equipped, beautiful, and clean. Found the staff to be exceptionally hospitable and helpful.

We stayed in a standard tent. The tents are located a short drive/walk from the main lodge...a completely peaceful and beautiful desert setting near fossilized red dunes. From the description on Expedia, I thought the tent would have a very minimal kitchen. What a pleasant surprise to find a refrigerator, 2-burner stove, sink, pots and pans and cooking utensils, dishes and cutlery, camping chairs, and everything needed for BBQ/braai! We bought food at the store at the gas station in Sesriem and were able to cook for ourselves at night and enjoy a campfire under the stars...and housekeeping staff did our dishes in the morning! We also ate some of our meals at the lodge. Unfortunately, they were offering a limited menu (rather than buffet) because there were very few guests due to Covid. Staff were kind and helpful, and several times someone dropped by the tent to make sure our needs were met. Be aware that the tents are very chilly at night during winter. With warm clothes and the nice warm bedding provided, we managed just fine. We loved our stay and would be happy to return.

The property is super nice, located almost 10km off the main road near a beautiful outcropping of rocks. Got a pleasant greeting when arriving, but was made to wait for my tent even when it was obvious there were no guests the previous night. They are pretty particular about not checking in before 200 pm. Dinner was quite expensive for Namibian standards (330 R), but was quite good with an open buffet. It included dessert in their very nice dining area. A number of oryx were visible just outside the dining area just after dark. Stayed in the tents, which were new, clean and very livable. Overall a very pleasant experience for the money, but they should let up if rooms/tents are available and guests come a bit early.

We enjoyed our tent. It was perfect for a family of four and had everything that we needed. Excellent to have a large fridge and freezer and the kitchen was well equipped. The only negative is that most of staff are pretty grumpy and rude.

When I arrived, they had no idea of my booking. Luckily, they had room, but this should not have happened. Especially if you book a year in advance.

Nice walking trail around the water hole with some Oryxes.

Great stay overall. The lodge is a true oasis and a welcome sanctuary of lush green foliage and birdsong in the middle of the desert. One word of caution - if you need access to the internet, they have an outmoded voucher system that makes using the internet both highly inefficient and costly for guests. Connecting and sharing with family back home was a pain. Aside from our frustration with the internet access, we had an amazing stay! Highly recommend if you are planning to unplug completely.

Beautiful setting against the desert backdrop, wildlife wandering outside our patio, we really enjoyed our stay here and also enjoyed a couple of the local hikes, it is nice that they have marked trails. The pools are lovely especially after a hot day hiking the dunes. Great service and excellent food, good thing because there is nothing else nearby! There were freshly cooked options at both the breakfast (eg. omelet) and dinner (eg. stir-fry) very much appreciated as I am not a fan of buffet meals. The roads are quite rough and this lodge is a ways outside of Sesriem however that worked well for us as we were heading north to Swakopmund the day after touring the dunes. Highly recommend! My 2 suggestions are (1) fridge in the room and (2) a la carte dinner options.

We loved this place! Very friendly and welcoming the moment we arrived and for our entire stay. Very impressed with the whole operation. Our “Sundowner” drive with Riann was a big and somewhat unexpected highlight. He is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. Would absolutely recommend this place and hope to return someday.

We loved this lodge and the scenery. We hadn’t appreciated quite how remote it is and two nights was a good length of time to stay. We did some of the walking routes which are marked and enjoyed the pool. The food was good but the choice was limited for lunches. A beautiful view and location.

The hotel is quite remote, not bad. Just no a la carte dinner, only a very very large buffet which I was not up for. No other eating establishments within 49-50 miles. Rooms and gardens are very clean and comfortable. However the sink’s cold water faucet did not work. Also the only electrical outlet in the room wasn’t working (fixed). A nice pace to stay on the northern end around Solitaire.

We chose this location because of the proximity to Sossusvlei which is still a one hour drive from there.
Our family lodge had two comfortable bedrooms and a large bathroom. Both clean and little bit rustic. We enjoyed the pools only shortly - very cold water during July :-) - and the nice garden.
The restaurant was OK, staff mainly very friendly and helpful. Often many tour groups seem to pass this lodge.
We booked the morning tour which was very nice if you're interested in enjoying sunrise in a very beautiful landscape. But a little bit disappointing regarding explanations from the tour guide and animals.

If you are planning to stay 2 nigths in the area this hotel is a good option since it is located between Sesriem and the Dunes. With this, you can save ~1 hr driving on your arrival, enjoy the activities around Sesriem and dedicate the next day to go to The Dunes, Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. You will be tired at your return so you can relax at the hotel pool and enjoy nice buffet. There is no tv, no internet in the roomwhich is good for the family time. You only have them at the reception area. When we went, hotel was full of transit groups of retied people. It was ok and did not cause any issue.

A little outdated when compared to other options, but a nice place nonetheless. Dinner was decent, breakfast was good, staff was nice. A 40min drive to the park gates

What you see when you approach is definitely not what you get once you are inside. Although it was a trek to reception for wi if and tv only at the bar the food was great.

Namibia Desert Lodge is about 50 km north of the entrance to Soussesvlei Park, facilitating an early morning departure for the park (a necessity given the midday heat). We were very impressed by the staff, several of whom were particularly helpful with travel tips and other advice, and all of whom performed their tasks with real professionalism. The meals were superb -- the best we experienced in Namibia outside of Windhoek. The WiFi is unreliable -- no surprise given the lodge's remote site.

Excellent location, good hotel however, food is only catered for Europeans/Germans, so other nationalities will suffer.

Here is the deal on the location- THE FAMOUS SAND DUNES OF SOUSSESVLEI ARE A 2 HOUR DRIVE. Since the drive from Windhoek on poorly maintained, gravel roads to the lodge was 4.5 hours that was fine with us but limited access for sunrise and sunset to enjoy the breathtaking red dunes. The setting of Namib Desert was beautiful with compressed sand dunes as a back drop that were lit at night. The room was comfortable though air conditioning was limited to hours decided by hotel. There were marked walking trails complete with written guides available at reception. The food was buffet style and fine.Yes, I recommend it for 2 nights as long as the traveler understands the distance to the dunes. On the Expedia site the lodge states the distance to the park is 60 kilometers to the gate. The dunes are another hour inside the gate- a bit misleading to the tune of 2 hours round trip.
