Thanks for a superb couple of nights away. Loved the room, couldn't fault it.
With thanks Paula

The Old Oak is a lovely old lady, nicely renovated and comfortable. Mangonui is a small town, and we found ourselves at a loose end, having booked a two-night stay. Unfortunately, the first night we were there, an attempt was made to steal our car parked directly in front (the only parking available), leaving it undriveable. Not the fault of Old Oak, of course, but off-street parking or better surveillance might have made a difference. For no fault of Old Oak, we are unlikely to return to Mangonui...

A lovely historic building with fantastic salt water view and several walkable dining choices nearby. A very capable and gracious host couple. Cannot say enough nice things about the hotel and its environs.

This property has been operating as a hotel since 1861 and has loads of character and charm combined with all of the modern day amenities. It’s within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The owners, Justin and Jennifer, are friendly, welcoming and helpful. My only negative is that there needs to better lighting in the bathroom. I would highly recommend this to everyone.

It was a pure delight. The property is gorgeous. The owners are lovely and it was great to wander along the boardwalk, look at the shops, enjoy dinner and the new wine and whiskey bar. Super relaxing night away.

The Old Oak Boutique Hotel is a gem of a place to stay. The hotel is rich in history and although has all of the modern amenities you can feel the history all around you. The bed was super comfy and we loved our ocean-view suite that boasts three separate rooms (a bedroom with a cute balcony, a kitchen/dining area, and a living room with a couch and rocking chair for watching tv) and a nicely appointed bathroom.
Our hosts were super helpful when suggesting places to have a bite and grab a drink . The locals in the town were a delightful, colorful bunch who all looked like they belong on a movie set for a small fishing town (oh, and there is a fishery and stores to buy seafood fresh out of the water) and has (world/NZ?) famous fish and chips.
Stay here on your way to or from the Waitangi Treaty Grounds - a must see bit of NZ history.

Natural hospitality. The hosts think about small details and know the area. They provided us with a frigo box and ice pack in the morning, their recommendations for visits were perfect (cape reinga). Small terrace at the back of the room for breakfast. Lots if atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The Old Oak is a stunning historic property that has been updated to perfection. The room was amazing with plenty of space, a large modern bathroom, a well equiped kitchenette and a cute porch over looking a beautiful garden and stunning bay. The decorating is very attractive and the beds are super comfy! Best of all the innkeepers, Jennifer and Justin were really nice and interesting. We can't wait to return!

We stayed in the Ruru Suite on the first floor - the balcony offered excellent view of the harbour. The suite was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Convenient location - 4-5 minutes walk to eating places/bar and a few interesting shops. We did not meet any staff on site, but we received clear check-in instructions by text from the owner.

Had a great stay at this lovely hotel. I was upgraded to a beautiful room with views of the water and garden. I want my house to have a decor that's as modern and classic as the rooms. I love how they have restored this old building in a way that feels fresh and full of light. I liked this room so much, one day I just stayed in the room to read and enjoy the view instead of going outside. Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops, while still being very quiet.
