About this apartment rental

The East Rim buildings were some of the first residences at Purgatory so the builders had dibs on the best location possible! Steps from everything while being private and quiet with the most amazing mountain views.

We are directly across the street from the Purgatory Lodge reception and perched right on the cliff overlooking the Twilight Mountains. Did we mention the waterfall right next to the building? You also have your own private parking next to the condo.

Come inside and you will find two stories with the living area upstairs and bedrooms downstairs. The living area is open and centers around the wood-burning fireplace and the brand-new deck with unobstructed views of Twilight Peak, the Needles Mountains, and the Weminuche Wilderness. The well-appointed kitchen lets the cook work their magic while still being part of the action or you can gather on the deck and grill. There is plenty of seating and a king-size Murphy bed (with a true king mattress) that can be folded down at the end of the evening for those extra guests to get a good night's sleep - life is too short to sleep on a pull-out couch! There is also a full bath with a tub and glass panel shower.

Downstairs you have 2 bedrooms, each with its own access to the full bathroom. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, large flat-screen TV, and plenty of windows as well as your own door to an outside ground-level patio. The 2nd bedroom has a Full/Twin bunk bed that is ideal for kids. We caution that the top bunk should not sleep anyone over 150 pounds.
There is also a full washer/dryer, ski locker, boot warming area, and much more. The bathrooms were completely replaced in 2021, new bunks and master bed in 2021, new Murphy bed in 2021, new paint and decks in 2021, and new carpet and tile throughout in 2022.

As a guest in our home, you get access to the resort's heated pool, hot tub, and fitness center all located right across the street at Purgatory Lodge. Towels, change rooms and showers are provided at the Lodge.

The condo is surrounded by the San Juan National Forest and there is plenty of great hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and more that you can walk to or within a 15-minute drive. There is a small lake across the road that you can paddle-board on. There are a limited number of restaurants and bars but they all have a lot of character - try the pizza at Schoolhouse, sliders on the deck at the Nugget (and live music), or finer dining at Lift Restaurant or Moose and Squirrel's.

Silverton is a true 'old west' town and the northern terminus of the DSNGRR narrow gauge steam train and you can be there in 30 minutes. Or drive 30 minutes south to Durango where there is an amazing variety of shops, restaurants, grocery stores, outfitters, and more, as well as the amazing events that happen all year long.

We loved our stay at this rental! The property was great! We enjoyed the short walk to the pool and hot tub. Purgatory has a lot of great amenities! The heated bathroom floor was a great surprise! We do wish the dryer was working for laundry. But, overall a fantastic stay and beautiful place!

No regrets. This place was great. Clean and well stocked with the things we needed to cook to eat healthy/save money. I liked the pillows so much I came home and bought a pair. We rode our mountain bikes during the day at the resort and our kid LOVED the heated pool w/ water slide that was just across the street. Hosts were super helpful.

Our family enjoyed being so close to all of the summer activities that Purgatory offers! This little “condo/cabin” was so close to everything but still distanced enough that traffic and noise wasn’t an issue. The cabin was well equipped for the weekend which was a plus considering there aren’t many food options the further you get from Durango. We hesitate to note that the cleanliness has room for improvement. We mostly don’t want it to be taken negatively because we were very grateful that the hosts allowed pets (seeing as we brought our own chihuahua) but there were some things that the hosts may need to address with whoever cleans the condo. There was a lot of shed dog hair on most of the bedding when we arrived. Again, don’t want to come off as complaining because we own a dog of our own but I suspect the hosts aren’t aware of the cleaning company’s attention to detail. When a renter pays significant cleaning fees it’d be nice to arrive to sheets without imbedded dog hair. And the washing machine had what appeared to be months of old soap build up so I’m not sure how “cleaned” the linens and towels actually get. One other thing to note (which again is hard to have control over) but LOTS of cobwebs and dead insects in fairly obvious parts of the house. When you’re in the mountains you have to expect that though.

We were pleased with the ease of access to the lodge and it's amenities. The condo is perfectly located to the mountain and for day trips to Silverton and Ouray. The convenience of the location made it easier to overlook smaller things like the comfort of the beds and cleanliness of the dishes. Overall, we had good stay here!

We absolutely loved our stay here! We had never been to Purgatory before and we will definitely be back. The condo is in such a great location! We were able to walk to the lifts and being right across from the pool and fitness center was awesome! It was so fun to ski during the day and soak in the pool and hot tub after. The condo was excellent. We had plenty of room for our family of 6 and we all enjoyed it very much! It was clean and had everything we needed. We will definitely return again next year!

This condo was perfect for our family with young children. We could easily walk across the street to access the pool and hot tub and it was a quick walk to get to the ski area. Parking was right outside the condo. The beds were pretty comfy and there were plenty of towels. I like that there is a door code so we could come/go without needing to share a key. We also liked the shampoo and soaps that were in the showers.

Great location and easy walk to the lifts. We enjoyed using the pool and hot tub at the lodge which was easy to access. The owner had everything set up and reached out to check on us several times during the trip. I highly recommend this location and would come back again.

My family and I could not be happier with our stay at Jim and Allison’s condo. The place was better than expected. Before we got there I expressed some concern regarding some lessons for our kids and Jim immediately got me in contact with one of the best instructors we’ve had. It made the trip! We were able to do two private lessons for our kids. Jim was extremely helpful in getting us setup and we are forever grateful. The condo was more than expected. It was well decorated and the location was perfect. We enjoyed the hot tub at the Durango mountain club each night and because it was so close just put on our shoes and ran back in the cold. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything we needed to cook the whole time. We even grilled burgers one night. I enjoyed coffee in the morning and looked out at the mountains. I would highly recommend this condo to anyone with a family or friends. Thanks Jim for everything!!
