About this farm stay rental
Charlie’s farmhouse has 2 bed rooms, 1 bath and a fantastic wrap around porch. It sits among 5 other farmhouses on historic Mound City Planting Company. This peaceful setting is the closest farm to downtown Memphis, 7 minutes away on a private road. Our 500 acre farm is a paradise for dog owner wanting plenty of space to enjoy off-leash walks.
This is a working farm! There are four 100 year old share cropper homes along with two new homes built by Little Custom Homes LLC designed in a similar style. All are located on a private road facing the Mississippi River levee. Mound City was named by the early settlers for the Indian mounds located on this property, one still remains today. It was an important river down for East - West trade during the late 17 and 1800's. Mound City was burned by Federal troops in 1863, but remained an important trading town until the Harahan Bridge was finished in 1892. The Harahan Bridge now accomodates a spectacular bicycle and pedestrian crossing, connecting Arkansas and Tennessee, and easily accessible from the houses. The old commissary at Mound City was featured as a honky tonk in scenes of the movie "Great Balls of Fire", featuring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis. It is located 200 yards from the house and has been restored.

My family and I were looking for a quite place to stay while we were in town for my son's baseball tournament. This little place was perfect!! It was quite, clean, and relaxing. The history behind the farm was an added bonus and being able to bring our fur babies made it that much better. Would definitely stay again!!!

Great get-away
Perfect location to be remote without feeling isolated. Easy access to town and activities in Memphis. Or just enjoy the quiet and peaceful country. Emily made sure everything was taken care of before arrival and was available for any questions during the stay. Very accommodating.
Highly recommend!

Wonderful country stay conveniently located near city
The setting of these homes is wonderful! You truly feel like you are in the country.....in a quiet setting from times past. The home is updated and very comfortable despite the small square footage. It has everything you need. We enjoyed the barn, the fire pit, the ping pong table, trampoline, and a visit to the horses. The quick and easy access to the city was a huge plus. We would recommend this property and hope to return for a visit again.

Gracious homeowner
Property owner was quick to respond to all requests. House was conveniently located. Unexpectedly found the fridge stocked for our first morning's breakfast (! thanks!) and plenty of suggestions for places to eat as well. Although we didn't have a dog with us, there was a dog bowl on a mat ready for anyone that brought their pet.

Wonderful charming house with all the comforts of home
Cute little house in Gods Country. Off the beaten path but so close to all if the museums and things to do. Charlie and his wife made our stay comfortable and welcoming with all the little extras. Would recommend this place to any family especially with pets. Would stay their again if ever make it back to Memphis.

Great location and great hosts
We loved staying here! Our hosts were great, welcoming us, sharing some of the local history, and giving recommendations in the area. We really enjoyed being able to be out in the country while still having easy access to Memphis. The house had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We plan to come back someday!

Charming farmhouse on a tranquil setting (& dog-friendly!) with great proximity to Memphis
Everything was perfect! Emily and Charlie’s hospitality was second to none and they were quick to answer any questions we had prior to our arrival. The house and porch were amazing, too bad we really only had one day of perfect porch weather. The patio seating couldn’t be beat for enjoying the views and peacefulness. The bathtub (and space heaters) were great for soothing sore muscles. The kitchen was a great size and had most essentials, including a dishwasher and microwave. We would have liked a spatula for eggs since there were mainly nonstick skillets. We traveled to Mound City in a month that had a lot of rain ... and with a teenager and two dogs. A gravel footpath from the parking area to the steps and a beach towel or two (not pretty white towels from the bathroom) would have helped the mud situation - but it was also inevitable. Thankfully there was a vacuum and broom to try and keep it at bay.
The beds were comfortable and the linens were cozy during the chilly nights. The washer and dryer were also a nice bonus.
The location was the best part. It was nice to feel removed from everything yet everyday we headed to Memphis to explore the food and music. Without hesitation, we would definitely stay here again!! 5 stars from this very fussy and picky traveler. :)

Fantastic!!!
Farmhouse #93 far exceeded our expectations. After a 12 hour drive we arrived on a chilly night with all of the lights on and the heater blowing. It was appreciated. The farmhouse is on a great property where we walked our dog everyday. The location is only a 10 min. drive to Downtown which was perfect. I highly suggest this place if you are looking for some peace and quite, but close enough to the action if you want. Thank you Emily and Charles.

A piece of Heaven
Kathleen and I booked this for a long term stay to welcome our first grand-baby and to stay close to our kids in downtown Memphis for 2 months after her birth. Little did we know at the time this would quickly become our respite. The home is so beautiful and peaceful and Roger is a retired police officer and watches over these places and Charlie and Emily have become friends. I am back in SC but I miss my farmhouse. Quiet, peaceful but only 7 minutes from downtown Memphis but every night I can sit on the porch and see the stars. Love it, love the owners. And will book again. Thank you

Cute Little House in the Country
Visiting Memphis for a Thanksgiving wedding and needed a dog friendly house. The owners are welcoming to travelers with dogs. Wide open space to take walks and enjoy nature. House was exactly as described. Clean, well stocked and had everything we needed for our stay. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a country vibe 15 minutes from downtown Memphis.

If you are looking for total relaxation with your family and your dog in the middle of nowhere.
Our son lives and teaches school in Memphis but we always find a VRBO when we visit because we have a dog, as does our son, and we want plenty of space for walks and off leash time for the pups. Charlie and Emily's place is perfect. Not enough space to talk about the fascinating history, but these cottages have a "middle of nowhere" feel but are only a few minutes from everything that's special about Memphis, particularly the restaurants. And, if you stay on your best behavior, Charlie will leave homegrown tomatoes on your cottage porch. We highly recommend this delightful little respite.

Home Away From Home
I cannot say enough good things about this place! Our family visits this area every year to visit relatives. It was an answer to prayer to find this home away from home. I am very particular about where I stay when traveling and this rental far exceeded my expectations. Cleanliness and comfortable bedding are a top priority for me and this house met both.
The owners are extremely accommodating, kind, and easy to reach.

Beautiful house and a great location close to Memphis!
Amazing hospitality! We showed up at the property and found a handwritten note with a surprise in the fridge (eggs, milk, English muffins, OJ). Very quaint house with a great wrap around porch. Beds were exceptionally comfortable and shower had great pressure/heat. Will be staying here again! Thank you, Emily and Charlie!
