I'm truly disappointed with the accommodations. It took 20 minutes to check in and when we got to our room our key cards didn't work. The room was small with no real additional place to sit other than the bed.
The toilet began to run (loudly) every 20 minutes. When I looked in the bowl, I was stunned and thought it was unclean. After further inspection it was scratched and dirty. I asked to change rooms and was told that wasn't possible.
Later that night, we realized the room temperature was at 88 degrees! No matter what we did to reset the thermostat, it didn't work. We finally turned the AC on but realized the curtains were covering unit and had to prop them up to allow for air flow.
Oh, and did I mention the hair in the shower?!? After I cleaned it, the shower was super hot and not easily adjusted.
I'm truly so disappointed. I had stayed here back in July and had a great room and experience. We won't go back again.

A disaster.
Feces in the bed sheets
Front door lock broken.
Light bulb dead in the bathroom.
Flickering bed lamp bulb.
Faucet nearly jammed up in the BR.
No more hot water for two mornings in a row.
No breakfast facilities available for a 4 star hotel???
This hotel is in fact a one star hotel for the price of a 5 stars

The temperature in our room would not go below 82 degrees. We reported the issue 3 times and were not able to change rooms. We were given a small fan. We slept at a friends apartment.

The service was good but the room did not meet some basic expectations. It was very hard to sleep in it as the interior patio was very noisy. The room was extremely hot also. They sent an AC mechanic to check on it but the problem continued.

The location was perfect and staff were great. Hotel was quaint and although the room was small, the beds were comfy! Only downside is the windows aren’t well insulated so you can hear everything outside and the room was a bit outdated.

Will never stay at this place. My flight was delayed and they would not answer the phone. They won’t even refund me for not staying there as I had to book a different hotel by the airport. Never do business with empire hotel or hotels.com.

I think room charge is so expensive for its condition.

The location is great for someone on an opera trip. The hotel is right across from Lincoln Center. I feel like the room and hallways need a slight upgrade because the dark lighting in the floor hallways makes the hallways feel a bit dingy. My room was fine, and I had a good stay. I just think it needs an upgrade. Carpet was torn inside my room and in the hallway near my door.

Great location and staff was very helpful!
But the room was old and uncomfortable, and there was mold and mildew in the shower.

The room cost a fortune and the bathroom sink did not work properly. The drain stopper was stuck in the closed position so had to be pulled out. The faucet did not turn on easily and water gushed out when it dud. The sink also didn't drain well and there was a hole in the ceiling besides the metal support beam. The brown carpet in the main bedroom was also old and a bit shabby-looking.

The tv did not work when I arrived. I had to call the front desk. Simple fix but just annoying.

Room was tiny and expensive - even by NYC standards. Value wasn’t very good. It was a serviceable space but beds were small and not particularly comfortable. While clearly things were updated to an extent and the lobby is beautiful, the details are pretty sloppy and the overall experience lackluster for the cost.

Usually stay here for years, but now worst experience in terms of front desk service and helpfulness. With their constant answer of we are an independent hotel they offer no service whatsoever, neither recommendations of service. No breakfast, no water in the room for drinking (you have to pick up from the front desk), among other limitations.

It’s right across from Lincoln Hall. Room was clean, quiet, very comfortable. Lots of restaurants around. I stay frequently.

This hotel is extremely dated and poorly kept up. The staff was friendly and the stay was relatively uneventful.

Great location but not 4-star quality - don’t stay here!
Room:
- Very noisy and only option to move was to another “superior” king where staff know there’s a problem with noise from a vent
- Everything was extremely worn out: tissue stuffed into the top of the window probably to keep out the draft, desk chair badly frayed, holes/tears in the wallpaper, dirty & excessively loud HVAC, chipped paint, etc.
- Times with no cold water (just banging pipes)
- No bathrobes
- Small/thin pillows and a thin duvet in Dec
- Cave like feel (needs more lighting)
Service: Calling the front desk always resulted in a busy signal. In-person at the front desk the staff were friendly enough but didn’t do anything beyond apologizing for the condition of the hotel
This place really is unpleasant.

Great location and spacious room. Property is a little dated and tired.(Character..) Took a while to work out the heating. It’s a low rise so a lot of traffic noise and no double glazing.
Generally a pretty good stay with great access to Central Park and Columbus circle.

We LOVE The Empire Hotel in NYC! Prime location, fair price and superb accommodations! Our Go To spot when visiting NYC!

Telephone was out of irder so we had to use our cell phone to call the front desk about the TV that didnt work. Staff was friendly and the room comfortable albeit small.

Took my boys to NYC for the first time and couldn't have found a better place to stay. The staff was so nice and the location was amazing. The hotel is older but so charming and clean. Rooftop restaurant was fantastic!

Hotel rooms in poor condition. Dimly lit hallway, no lighting by our room door. We had to use a flashlight to see where we insert the key. In the room, wallpaper peeling, hard mattresses, tiny bathroom with toilet facing the wall.
2.0
Nice hotel, 2 things we didn't like. 1: There is no room service and the restaurant is separate from the hotel. 2: If you don't get an exterior room, your view is literally other people's hotel rooms. So if we opened our shades, all the other interior rooms see right in. So our room felt a little like a dungeon. Bathrooms could use a refresh too.

Very dirty, promised higher floor room never received, no one came to make the sofa bed so no pillow or blankets, charged from Hotel.com three times the room rate for holiday, no coffee machine, no room service, front desk checkin was an obnoxious staff member, just horrible. Do not stay here. So many better cleaner hotels in that area of NYC.

Great stay, would recommend - however, the room was hot and the AC could not cool it down. The place seemed to be aging as well. But reasonable price and friendly people. Would stay again!

There was no heat in the room and wallaper was peeling

Great location. Clean room. Odd that there wasn’t a flat sheet, just a fitted sheet and then the comforter. Easy check in. Complimentary water.

It’s amazing. Perfect service great location with a subway stop super close and a TKTS booth for half price tickets around the corner. PJ’s restaurant downstairs is legendary. We had lobster rolls. They let us store bags after we checked out. It’s perfect in every way.

The keys to our room didn’t work throughout our stay. Every day, we had to visit the front desk multiple times to resolve the issue. We noticed other guests experiencing the same problem. When we mentioned it to the front desk before checking out, they finally acknowledged it was a general issue but didn’t provide an explanation. While the hotel is centrally located, it is in need of improvement.

You can hear the traffic inside the room

I think my only slight issues was the air conditioning was limited and the bathroom was a little tight

I traveled from New Zealand for three days of Opera at the Met then back home again. The Empire was a friendly base close to the Lincoln Center that was safe to come back to late at night.

Honestly I’m very disappointed with my stay at the empire…we specifically picked this property because they had 4 stars and it was most definitely not 4 stars. We were unable to use the toilet because it didn’t properly flush so kept getting stuck up. You can tell it gets clogged all the time because of the scratches in the toilet from all the times maintenance has come to snake it. We had them come fix it and then it immediately happened again right after. The entire duration of our stay we had to go to the mezzanine level to use the bathroom. Aside from the toilet the room smelled like mold and the carpets were all worn down with tears and exposed padding. The furniture in the room was dirty and old and side panels on some of the furniture were falling off and peeling off as well as cracks in the ceiling and what appears to be water damage. The pictures online also make it appear like a much larger room than it actually is. I tried to explain to the front desk my issues with the room they just nodded at me and said I’m sorry. Zero type of accommodation.

This was the second time I've stayed at Empire and I'm glad I did so. The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable

Room was in pretty rough shape. Hard beds, lumpy pillows and bathroom was water damaged

The rooms need a total update. The walls in the bathroom looked moldy. Incredibly small room, that made it difficult to walk around the bed. I paid over $1,000 for two night stay. I expected better sleeping conditions. The rooms didn’t have a safe deposit box- a standard everywhere else. Location is great, it’s a shame the rooms where is such bad conditions.

The hotel is in a great location . The hotel bar is great . The staff are really friendly , very helpful.
Unfortunately the bathroom is very small and narrow . The door to the room is difficult to shut .

We have a son living in NYC, and have stayed at this property a number of times. The location is great, and we are extremely satisfied with all the boxes the Empire Hotel checks. The area alone offers a myriad of places to shop, explore and experience both old restaurants as well as new finds. We always look forward to our next visit . . .

Beautiful space. Incredible location. The room was cold and had a hard time warming up but bedding was great for sleeping. It was more $ than we generally spend but my husband was won over:)

The faucet in the bathroom was running throughout my stay, as well, there was a loud noise coming from the heater, as if a rodent was walking around throughout the night
