Receptionist walked off to take a personal phone call halfway through checkin. We’d booked a superior double but were given a garden view room. They corrected the room but claimed it to be Hotels.com’s error. The room, in the end, was ok. Old and in need of redecoration. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was decent, plenty of choice. Parking is extra even for guests.

Nice place to stay. The only thing that let the hotel down was the cleanliness of the 'Ladles toilet, located just off of main reception.

Great hotel but could have done with more staff in the Garden restaurant.

Me and my mum came for night, hotel was nice and central and lovely decor only thing I would say is the price should include breakfast as it was quite expensive for no breakfast included

Ok Hotel, no extras in the room like bath robes or fridge, quite basic but clean and tidy.

Wasn’t given the room online that I booked for a special occasion was given a really below average room with fruit flys flying around the bathroom and bedroom and peeling paint on the bath walls. We were given the wrong food that we ordered and found it dissatisfying and disappointing. I think the advertising is misleading we asked for a room in the manor and paid for it to be called up a few days later with the manor having renovations for leaks. Very misleading:

20mins walk from the station, use exit on platform 2 and taxi outside. (One way routes £8.00. Hotel is behind the main high street, turn left out of hotel cross the road, little ally way, takes you straight to the IVY restaurant, and high street, hotel staff were around, not overly attentive though but present, was kindly given an upgrade to garden view. Rooms were plain in design, shame giving the history but comfortable, bath with shower head, heated towel rail, tea coffee hairdryer, water. Breakfast is help your self, eggs, bacon, sausage mushrooms tomato toast, cereal, fruit yogurts , danishes. Small bar, a cosy lounge. Check in 15:00, you can leave luggage. We would go back.

Great location for graduation.

Very nice and comfortable and lovey place. Service was great
However, Criticism would be that ‘nothing’ flushed out of the toilet if you understand what I mean, so clearly a drainage problem but not very nice. The bath wouldn’t drain after we had showers either.
Also we booked our breakfast for 9.30 but had to sit in the lounge as there were no tables available? The topping up of the self serve buffet was not great and seemed a bit chaotic. They clearly they had guests to feed so should have been more prepared maybe. Another couple of toasters and definitely another coffee machine would go amiss!
Other than that lovely!

Very comfortable surroundings at the heart of the city. The food and service was excellent. We would return on another visit to the area.

Great location for all amenities, really comfortable and well decorated room. Toothpaste in the sink which was the only fault of the whole stay. Great choice at breakfast with good quality food. Would stay here again.

Charming hotel, quiet and very central to everything in the city. My only observation was that the mattress wasn’t the most comfortable - it seemed quite well used.., otherwise it was great

Wonderfully situated hotel with an interesting history. Staff were friendly and efficient throughout.
Breakfast time was busy and sometimes fruit ran out - but understandable.

Wonderful staff; bedrooms near the garden are very noisy.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Wessex. The room was clean and spacious and quiet.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The facilities were great.
One observation regarding the breakfast was it didn’t really match up to expectations. The hot food seemed to be in an odd order. The scrambled egg had gone very dry and was not replenished. There were some other sections where supplies seemed low and we had not come down late in proceedings. There only seemed to be two staff available which may have meant items not being checked regularly. It was disappointing and therefore didn’t feel good value for money.

I normally refrain from negative comments but ...
Parking is a nightmare experience - front car park was with difficult to find and then full ...
After spending almost another hour parking at backdoor car park with proper payment of parking fees, you then receive a 100 pound parking ticket erroneously in the middle of night one week later !!

What a beautiful hotel. Our rooms were incredibly comfortable and quiet, as I had asked for. The garden at the back is lovely and there are plenty places within the hotel to sit and relax. Very comfortable. We will come again.

1. Had to shower in my own filth as shower would not drain
2. Flushing the toilet was a hit and miss as it would probably work once in 5 attempts
3. Carpets throughout the hotel either need replacing or a thorough clean.
4. The interior looks dated

I wasnt sure what to expect from a small town "Boarding House"... well i was pleasantly surprised - lovely roo., great facilities, comfy bed, lots of storage, kitchenette, good shower. Its in a nice environment, bar/restaurant has good food and better service, breakfast was varied and plentiful.

We stayed here 7 years ago and thought it was exceptional. It does not seem that much has been done since. Consequently the carpeting was really old, the mattress uncomfortable and the restaurant service seriously understaffed.

An average hotel. Great location, lovely garden. Room dated and no thought for design. Bit mouldy around the shower door. Minimal basic toiletries. Reception staff formulaic, no warm welcome.

Overnight stay for my mothers 86th birthday, was lucky enough to have an early check in and I was relieved that there were spaces in the on-site car park . We had a very pleasant room on the ground floor overlooking the garden.
Breakfast was excellent, very fresh and plenty of choice.Staff were very friendly . The garden is really lovely , peaceful with plenty of chairs. All in all we both had a wonderful short stay and the hotel’s proximity to the high street was an added bonus.

They never answer the phone. We had the wrong room allocated. They did not have secure bike parking as described.

We stayed for one night (Saturday) while meeting up with friends in Winchester. We only needed a room and breakfast so did not experience much else of the hotel.
Firstly, the location is fantastic as it is only a 30 second walk to the high street, but also on a quiet road.
Parking was pretty easy, although it was busy and we got the last available space.
We checked ahead to make sure we could drop our bags off early before checking in. After being told that would be fine it was a bit frustrating to be told on the day that there was no room and we would need to leave our bags in our car until it was time to check in. But in the scheme of things, this is a minor gripe.
Check in was nice and easy and the room was pretty good - it was a nice size, good view over the garden, comfortable and clean.
The breakfast was buffet style and suffered the expected problem; food was dry and eggs barely edible unless timed for when they came out fresh. There was one coffee machine which meant there was a queue to get a drink. But it was reasonably priced, ok quality and set us up for the day.
Overall, the hotel is perfect for a weekend in Winchester city centre. We will definitely come back again.

Short leisure break, so needed somewhere convenient and flexible.
This is a traditional hotel, but is ideal for such breaks, centrally located and with parking.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the staff friendly.
