Charming heritage style hotel in the heart of James Bay . Super walkable to Ogden Point or downtown. Pub / restaurant found is delicious and reasonably priced and the friendly staff go out of their way to make sure that everything is to your satisfaction.
Can’t wait to return.

What an exceptional stay we had in this very friendly and cosy inn. The excellent customer we received from the staff started from the beginning right till the end. Unbeatable location! I will be booking this inn an again in December.

I did not realize exactly how old the hotel was when I booked but I was not disappointed at all. There is so much charm in this place and the rooms have updated furniture so it did not feel like an old rickety hotel. It was very clean aside from a few hairs in the bathroom, and the beds were comfy. Very tall and a little firm. Big space. Check in and check out were a breeze. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs was very good. My only complaint is that from our main floor bathroom (only from the bathroom) you could hear voices from the pub downstairs. It did not resonate into the room though so we slept well.

Was a nice room

A friend and I were in town for a concert - overall, it’s a fine place to stay. Very welcoming and vintage charm, however cleanliness was only so so (some of the towels in particular weren’t very clean). Also no elevators. Other than that, a good stay for a good price.

Charming hotel, great location, great neighborhood. Our room was a little tight, but we expected that. There are no elevators; again, not a problem for us, but hauling luggage up 3 or 4 flights could be for some. Two little issues: 1) Our pillows were flat; we got better ones the second night, but there weren't great either, 2) The restaurant downstairs (different owners apparently) was a disappointment and we thought the staff was rude. They seemed to be annoyed by the hotel customers.

Front desk manager was outstanding; he made sure we got the best room possible. Our room was terrific and we were very comfortable. We love the hotel--it is charming and authentic and you get a real sense of history in the neighborhood. We ate in the Pub and had very good service and good food. The location of the hotel was ideal for access to the ferry to Port Angeles the morning we checked out.
We hope we'll be lucky enough to stay at James Bay Inn again

Great location and wonderful front desk personalities

A wonderful stay in downtown Victoria. Clean, quiet accommodations with a helpful staff. I will stay there again.

staff was amazing.went above and beyond to accommodate us.food downstairs was very good also.would stay again if in the area.lots to do and location was great

The hotel was nice but not handicapped friendly. Rooms were cozy but the pub and lounge noise and music was too loud and could be heard in the room through midnight. Upon exiting the room we spotted a mouse in the hallway. Neighborhood was cozy and safe away from downtown.

Adorable, quaint, old world accommodations! We stayed in an upstairs suite which was spacious and met all of our needs. The food was excellent and convenient for a quick bowl of homemade soup and a drink. Close walking distance to everything. I cannot recommend James Bay Inn enough!

I enjoyed my stay. Just the shower temperature was not steady. I can carry my luggage up to second floor without elevator. But I still prefer to recommend to my friends

A traditional Edwardian inn, something with ambience but don’t expect luxuries like aircon or a lift. This didn’t matter to us it just felt homely and welcoming. James Bay is a lovely area and only a short walk to centre of Victoria.

Great visit - wonderful staff

Only thing is walking up 3 flights of stairs with heavy bags-work equipment a few times during the day

The staff is amazing!! The receptionist and manager were engaged, friendly, and helpful! This is a historic building, it doesn’t have air conditioning but we opened the windows which provided a nice breeze!

Ended our 10 day trip of the island here for 2 nights. Staff friendly and helpful. Garden Suite room was spacious and had all the amenities we needed. Close enough to many attractions but just far enough away from all the downtown crowds and noise. Bed was comfortable. Wonderful inn.
4.6
Great stay for a couple! Would stay again, affordable and close to everything downtown (10 min walk) - not sure how it would be for kids but we loved the stay.
4.6
Staff were fantastic and very helpful. Rooms and parking spaces were small. Bathroom sink was in the bedroom separate from the bathroom which was not optimal.

Lovely welcome from John (sorry forgot your real name) period property was nice although the room basic made up with banter from lovely reception staff

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the James Bay Inn. We arrived a bit earlier than our check in but the front desk staff were able to accommodate us. They were very helpful in providing us a map and directions to the various points of interest within walking distance. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The decor definitely suits the atmosphere in the hotel! We had a drink in the pub downstairs before heading out to dinner. Friendly staff there as well. As previous reviews have pointed out there are stairs involved, but we loved the charm of the hotel! We would stay here again.

The second oldest hotel in Victoria was amazing. Comfortable bed. Cozy surroundings. Walkable nostalgic neighborhood . Loved it!
4.6
Loved the historic look and pretty flower baskets outside. Loved the nice quiet neighborhood. Loved the spacious room. Staff were nice.
Only issue was an old carpet smell as soon as entered the lobby.
4.6
Had a really great stay. Lovely attentive staff. Probably the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. Quirky and charming. If you want corporate then it’s not for you. If you want charm and different it’s perfect

The location is good, close to the Parliament Building. The room is small. You can hardly have space to walk. The bathroom is long and spacious though, kinda strange.
4.6
This hotel was close (and walkable) to everything going on near the harbour and downtown, but was quiet and more reasonably priced.
4.6
Good accomodation. Very friendly staff. Clean room. Great king bed. Within walking distance to bay and downtown.
4.6
Great unique hotel! Property is extremely clean. Friendly staff. Amazing location! Parking is available.

Helpful staff.

This hotel is well located. Two blocks from the legislature assembly. Lots of free parking. I left my bike in the storage room for three days no problem. The restaurant is very good. I loved the chowder and the salmon burger.
What I didn't like is that there's no elevator. The bathroom takes so much space from the room itself. No fridge
4.6
Very close to Fisherman’s wharf. Love the quaint atmosphere of the Inn.
