It was a shame about the hot water we only got this on the second last night and I would advise having a small fridge in the rooms .. other this we were very happy with the stay
Communications need to be better between reveption and reception area as we needed to head out very early a few days so we went over for breakfast but we're never told we need to request early breakfast etc, small teething problems

Zoi is a very special property that feels like a luxurious home away from home. While the property is gorgeous and wonderful, it is the people that make it exceptional. The genuine kindness and desire to make your stay absolutely wonderful are memories that will stay with me forever. I will truly miss the lovely people I met at Zoi. Nice, the receptionist, goes out of her way constantly to make sure you are totally happy with your stay at Zoi. I assumed she was the manager, that is how good she is! She was handling everything as if she were the manager, from scheduling to problem solving water pressure issues to making change to overseeing staff to well, I can't think of anything she wasn't up for handling! The lovely girls who take care of the rooms make up the bed everyday with the most lovely designs using flowers and towels! It's those little extra special touches! The restaurant has wonderful food and plenty of it! The menu changes daily, although they have some staples as well. Jean, the chef, is amazing. The wait staff are so attentive but not overbearing at all. You can linger as long as you like with that beautiful ocean view. I especially enjoyed talking to Neema, she was just the sweetest!
My only issue had nothing to do with the hotel, but the beach out front. It is not a great swimming beach because of the sea urchins (though you can wear shoes) and the tides are tricky. It's certainly beautiful though and makes for the most spectacular sunrises.

Very attentive staff throughout the hotel grounds.

We loved our stay. Paradise on earth! Great retreat on the beach full of palm trees with very cosy pool area overlooking the ocean. Food at the restaurant was fantastic and always fresh. The rooms were spacious with living in nature feeling. Guests were all very respectful of each other. Highly recommended for a relaxing vacation!

When we arrived at the hotel around 1 pm , there was nobody at the reception. We waited for a long time for checking in . They gave us a second floor room since I paid for the junior suit, so , I believe the standard room is on the ground floor . There is no a/c and there is no fridge in the room . The shower looks like a cave . Lack of a/c didn't bother us though , I think the trees provided shade and kept temps cooler . The gardens around the rooms are nice , full of trees and big leaf tropical plants . When we arrived , we were hungry and ate lunch at the hotel restaurant , it was nothing special . Beach is less crowded , but you get followed by the beach boys. We stayed two nights , We ate other lunches and dinners at retreat hotel next door , their food was tastier and their staff didn't stare like some of the zoi staff . We tried one local restaurant on the beach since they had good reviews , and we were disappointed . My wife had a massage in the spa and she said it was good. First night we were ok with no mosquitos, but second night we had a mosquito problem . Overall , it was ok , but maybe pricy for what they offer , I saw some other beach hotels while doing the beach walk , I would compare other hotels' prices before booking here.

We had an amazing stay, it's a beautiful boutique hotel. We loved the pool and the staff were super friendly.
The food was excellent but similar to western prices. The taxi service is much more expensive than other hotels so we just ended up booking our taxis through a different hotel. For example I got quoted 80USD for a return trip to Nungwi and we payed 40USD when booking through another hotel on the same beach.

I loved the place so much. It was a 10/10 and if I ever come back to Zanzibar, I am definitely coming back to Zoi boutique hotel again. Lovely place with lovely staff, they were all very nice to me and I highly recommend this hotel. Bahatt made the best cocktails lol and loved all the staff. Loving people
Hussein, Izaiah, Prisca and others, I don’t remember the other names. But best experience
Loved my room, it was so beautiful and comfortable

The zoi is located on a beautiful quiet beach with a lovely pool facing it. The rooms are large and very rustic, but comfortable with a large bed with netting and a balcony to sit out to see the ocean. Rustic also means no air con or tv but we didn’t care about that, this is a place to relax. All the staff were lovely, we have to single out neema for a special thank you. There is an excellent local restaurant for fish opposite the gate - Malin - too.

Great service, excellent food, & gorgeous views. Most importantly, the staff went beyond to make our stay very comfortable.

This is a gem. The manager and staff were simply wonderful. Calm, attentive, caring in a very modest and warm way.
The resort is relatively small but beautiful and very well kept.
Bungalows have no AC and are quite basic, which gives a laid back and relaxed atmosphere.
I would perhaps not recommend Zoi for a lively family with energetic kids, but I am sure they would also be very warmely received!

A lovely stay. Very peaceful. Not a ton of lounge chairs in sunny spots but there's always the beach. Nice to borrow bikes and snorkel gear. We ate next door (Zanzibar retreat) every night of our stay cheaper prices and amazing food.

Location on the beach was great, they had a beautiful pool, cool spots to sit and gaze at the ocean, a good restaurant, and lovely people. Close to other really good restaurants, too! Our room was clean and fine, but rather closed in. However, it was the “standard” room. An upgrade would be advisable if staying more than one night. They were much more open and airy! Overall, a great find’

One of the best hotels we've seen in Zanzibar. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Great breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also great, with fresh food and a welcome mix of local dishes, Italian and fusion. But in terms of food and drinks it's also the most expensive place we've seen, charging almost twice as much compared to smaller or more local places (e.g. over 4 USD for a beer).

The hotel has a great location and the local people in the village are friendly and nice peple. The armed guards at the front entrance makes a bizarre conflict with the image of a friendly neighbourhood. The location is great and the pool area is a great place to relax. The nearby beach is nice, but the lagoon is more rough and less walking friendly compared to the lagoon further south in f.ex. Paje. The staff at the hotel is friendly, but unfortunately they seems to have given up on the "african mentality" Staff are not self managed and even friendly and service minded, not very self driven with little personal initiatives. Toilet facilities are old and weared and required continuous maintenance during our stay. The food in the restataurant was OK, but nothing special. One evening we experienced a debrice from dishwashing of a pan in the food, and we had to contact management to get compensated for the food. Needless to say that the appetite suddenly disappeared. There are several restaurants further north on the beach that gives better options at more reasonable prices. The "natural" aircondition does not provide the promised results. Pay a few dollars more and go for a hotel with real A/C! Even when they lost power during night, they did not wanted to start the generators to run the fans, because of the noice. What's the point with emergency generators, if they are used only during day time..? Next time, we will stay another place, but Matemwe is a great place!

We had a fantastic room directly facing the sea. Everything was perfect, but the restaurant which was disappointing.
