Nice room with great view of the village, great food available. Great nights sleep as bed so confy

Great stay comfy and great service from owner Dee he couldn’t do enough for our group
3.0
Staff friendly but room very dated and not that clean. Music in the pub on until late so if you are after a quiet night on Saturday don’t book a room here. It’s a locals pub with rooms. Breakfast not included in price which is steep for room only, especially when single occupancy.

Very good nights sleep with comfy beds .

The facilities for paying my bill at the Charles Cotton hotel are disgraceful. The paying machine does not work correctly, and resulted in my having my debit card blocked. Very inconcenient.

We had a lovely stay and enjoyed the beautiful village, lovely views and fabulous food. Fully recommend and will definitely revisit

Great setting in a lovely little village. Good food and very comfy pillows!
Staff were obliging. I didn't have breakfast though.

Nice hotel . Very friendly staff. Overall ok. The only problem we had is we've both come home with a bad back as mattress sank in the middle. So not a brilliant sleep. Also no usb sockets.

We stayed here in 2021 on a little babymoon and loved it so much that we returned for another little babymoon with baby number 2 in 2024. Lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable. The bar/restaurant is really lovely and very well priced.

Had a lovely few nights stay here. Hartington is a pretty little village and is a great central location for lots of lovely walks and attractions. The hotel is very cosy and all the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are clean, we stayed in the annexe and weren't disappointed at all. Definitely recommend and would stay again. Thank you for a great weekend.

Staff very friendly and helpful . Bedding very clean and bed comfortable .👍 Breakfast not so good as the speed it was bought out to us it had obviously been pre cooked and just warmed up and only the egg cooked to order . The whole place is generally run down & tired .. as for the paintwork … we would suggest spec savers for the decorator 🤔. 🙄

Extremely cold room upon arrival and took a while to heat up. 1 small radiator in the bedroom and 1 small radiator in the bathroom and on an extremely cold sub zero snowy weekend in December, these were inadequate to heat up the room to a comfortable level. I was part of a group who had a group dinner, which was poor and the dining room was cold. I wouldn't stay again; it was expensive for what it was.

Lovely pub, restaurants and rooms great food and staff, only downside was rooms where a bit cold

We liked the room. The bed was extremely comfortable. I was pleased to see a bath but unfortunately could not adjust from the shower to bath taps so couldn’t fill it! The food was excellent but the drinks let it down badly. Lots of the nice wine was not available and there were only two amber ales. The staff were pleasant. And it’s a great spot in the village.

Friendly local hotel. Excellent room and good food. Perfect for Peak district lovers.

Had a great stay at the Charles Cotton hotel. The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.
The weather was amazing but the room was very hot overnight but luckily we had taken our own fan which was a Godsend
We only had breakfast at the hotel which was hot and freshly cooked to order and provided a Gluten Free option for my partner.
All in all a fabulous stay in a historic hotel in a wonderful Peak District village

No way it was cleaned as stated. Requested easy access, not given, eventually moved to an apartment
Owner unfriendly, scruffy and barely spoke.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful village. Staff were very friendly. A bit of a mixup at dinner when my daughter was served wheat containing onion rings when we had been informed that they were wheat free. Fortunately my dsughter is wheat intolerant and not coeliac. The staff were very spologetic though. Breakfast time could start earlier than 8.30am I feel. The local area is stunningly beautiful

Very comfortable and easy atmosphere. Secluded and safe parking a bonus (classic car). Prices very reasonable.

a beautiful village and the hotel is in the heart of it. very warm, friendly and welcoming. accommodation was also separate to the main building. highly recommended.

A nice stay, just a couple of things need updating like beds and mattresses they dip in the middle. Breakfast and dinner were great. Staff were friendly and helpful, one evening it was left to the young members of staff which wasn’t so good as they were to busy chatting and not checking on customers

The staff went out of their way to help us with drying very wet clothes and walking boots. We were surprised that the radiator in the bedroom was behind the wardrobe. It was excellent value for money.

The reception and bar/restaurant staff were very pleasant, although the young kitchen assistant/ server has plenty to learn about customer service.
Our ground floor room was quite poorly lit, but did have a very comfortable bed. There was also a good supply of tea/coffee/milk/sugar etc (although no biscuits) when we arrived. However, it was soon apparent that the ceiling was either pretty thin or inadequately insulated, as we could easily hear when anyone in the room above moved about. The bathroom was not particularly clean and had a broken towel hanger on the back of the door. However, its major shortcoming was the lack of a bath mat or ANY form of support at a sensible height when showering. As a result, standing on the smooth surface of the bath while attempting to shower was nothing short of dangerous!
We dined in the hotel for just one night – only to find that at least two items on the pretty uninspiring menu were unavailable.
Given the overall cost of the room (without breakfast) and the fact that no refunds would be provided in any event that guests needed to amend their plans, we felt our stay had been somewhat disappointing and would not recommend this hotel to others.

Room was in need of redecorating. Lock on the room door was hard to lick when leaving. Breakfast was only available for 1 hour.
1.5
Very tired rooms - one room had mould and no heating in bathroom.
Meal was nice and staff very helpful
Breakfast a bit basic but ok .Shame there was no fruit, yoghurts, only one croissant left, limited cereal boxes
2.5
fantastic stay for cycling tracks
Wonderful staff, food was excellent
Good real ale
Comfortable bed
plumbing a bit tired, otherwise wonderful stay

Shower needs fixing and staff didn’t go out of their way to welcome us

A lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. Lots of good walks nearby. Breakfasts were great, but evening meals less so. The children's menu was fine, but could do with children's desserts to go with it.

Enjoyable stay, would recommend booking evening meal slot before you get there as we only just got in.
lovely walk along to Pilsbury Castle the next morning

From start to finish, I cannot speak highly enough.
Food was exceptional, accommodation was superb and the location is a dream. I will be returning again this summer with friends.

We pop to hartington every couple of years. Our preferred choice is the charles cotton. Good sized rooms and lovely staff. Great breakfast.
3.0
Property is feeling very tired and in need of some attention. Walls were very thin and we could hear people from at least two other rooms snoring, talking and walking around
Our shower was very poor, taking at least two minutes to warm up and then the pressure was not enough for my wife to wash her hair
Sealant and general repairs in the bathroom were at best done by an amateur and were not of any standard that I have ever experienced
Breakfast was very basic and at £9.95 per person we felt bad value. Our scrambled egg appeared to be made with just one egg although the mushrooms were a bit more plentiful
Value for money? Not at £110 per night once breakfast is taken in to account although it is in a great location
Would we return? No, we could certainly find better

Handy location. Food was good and service was fast and efficient. However the En-suite was cramped and the shower pressure was well below par.

We have just had a two night stay in the Hotel.
Our room was quite small but clean and was warm.
The service was very friendly. We had one meal in the restaurant which was very nice but there were a few options not available which was a little disappointing as it was not an extensive menu.
We really enjoyed the full cooked breakfast.
Overall it’s a nice hotel in a very picturesque village in the Peek District
1.5
Cosy and welcoming hotel, dog friendly, children friendly. We stayed for one night, had dinner in the restaurant, which was tasty and locally sourced when possible. Many reviews on here about it being outdated!, well its not modern and could do with upgrading a little but...it has charm and character that your modern chain hotel lacks. Nice friendly staff, well done.

Friendly staff and great location. The decor in the room was a bit tired and the hallway was a bit unwelcoming - we were in a building across the yard from the main hotel - just felt like it might be the next area due for a update. Communal areas were nice and all was comfortable.
1.5
Lovely hotel. Our room was large, and the bed was comfortable.
We had our dinner in the hotel, the food was delicious. (home cooked) There is also a vegan option.
The village the hotel is in is beautiful.
Highly recommend.
