Booked for a girls night away to visit the spa in Bath & visit xmas markets.
I can only describe the lodge as in desperate need of a referb, it was like stepping back in time.
The room was twin but the beds were sunk in the middle & looked like they were from the 80s. You could see the line across the wall where an old double bed was previously. The wallpaper was peeling off & a water stain apparent across the ceiling from a previous leak. Drafty window which was kept at bay by the shutters & curtains but i suspect if going in icy conditions then the room would be cold. The carpet was dirty & stained. The bathroom was mouldy & we chose not to shower because we both felt cleaner by not doing so, the whole bathroom needed gutting.
The place has got a 2* overall for the basic but nice enough continental breakfast.
Both staff we dealt with were lovely.
The cost was £121 which for the state of the place is ludicrous to be honest. It could be lovely but needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to standard.

This was a convenient hotel about 10 minutes by taxi from the city centre. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and our room was spacious with good amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower although a bit cramped was powerful. It was lovely that you were provided with a fob to gain access to the hotel outside of operating hours. Although the hotel may be in need of an update, our state was pleasant and comfortable.

Only rated condition to warn you that this is a vintage property with vintage furnishings. For me that is a positive! It was just lovely and historic.
Great to have ample parking in Bath. Just be aware it is a single narrow driveway, second on the north if coming off the A46, by the time you see it you are past. So go slow! It is very hard to turn around on those streets. (The very first entrance to some parking behind a low stone wall IS NOT the hotel!) Take the drive immediately east and go up the hill.
Breakfast wasn’t huge but included everything that should be in a continental so a pleasant surprise.
Not a lot within walking distance but there is a good grocery store less than a mile away (Morrisons) and bus service is good in Bath.
I had to travel to Bath unexpectedly because of a family emergency and this was a great place to land, very reasonable and with great character.

Well reading the reviews before our stay this seems to be a 'marmite' hotel.
In our opinion, it was wonderful... lovely room with 4 poster bed and lovely friendly service.
We went out for breakfast there are numerous options near by.
It isn't a modern shiny, characterless hotel. It's a delightful hotel full of charm and original features.
Thank you.

Very out dated hotel, shower didn't have any hot water. The room felt unclean, the whole vibe I got from the hotel was the type of hotel that you would see in a horror/haunted hotel movie. I don't think it was worth the price at all, could do with a good clean and decoration refresh.

Good location outside of city with bus stop right outside. The free car park is a bonus..Hotel is OK but tired in places and the breakfast was basic.

It was a bit far away from the center but we took the bus so no problem. It was historical builduing and we like the place.

A very lovely period hotel set amongst a beautiful garden. Convenient for trips around the Bath area without the worry of parking in central Bath when you return. Just under a 2 mile walk to Roman Baths, but there are other sights not much more than a mile away, and there is a nice walk in via the the canal to the centre.

Old hotel with great service. However our quite large room had huge humidity trouble... everything was wet and slightly uncomfortable in there. Not the best considering the price but not that bad too

The photos on the site look like the building has old building charm, in reality it is run down and money needs to be spent to stop it from being totally ruined
Broken windows, shower head disgusting, windows don’t stay open, bed and pillows very soft and very lumpy

Very dirty, mold in the shower, All carpets are dirty, paper wall coming off in two rooms I saw, curtains falling, mattress not comfortable, garden is sad, felt like leaving when I came in.

Not my level of hotels that I am staying in.

This hotel is a short bus ride from the city centre which we used regularly. Free parking and a very helpful host that could not do enough.

Beautiful building on a nice location. Staff very friendly. Beautiful bedroom with antique furniture including a (comfy) oak four-poster bed. Sadly, the ensuite was also fairly antiquated: getting the shower to temperature required a combination of regular mechanically-sympathetic tweaking of the controls, and some appropriate utterances to the minor deities of plumbing. Bring your own toiletries or prepare to be frustrated by tiny tear-open packets, which provide the opposite of the eco-friendly credentials they claim. No aircon in the room, either, so expect it's hot in summer! Breakfast offering fairly weak - for the price, I would rather go to a local cafe.

Friendly, helpful staff. Room was clean, good bed and shower although some furniture and flooring was very worn. Can't comment on breakfast as I had to leave early. Overall a reasonable stay.

The host was fantastic and helped me plan an easy walk to a great pub for dinner and a Spectacular trip to Bradford on Avon and Castle Combs. This historic property was fully booked, and I never saw or heard another guest. It was so quiet and pleasant.

Charming old Bath building - we really felt the sense of Georgian England but with the comforts of today.

A bit tired and showing its age. The shower only kicked out scalding hot water and dribbled out. The toilet wouldn’t flush and when it did barely.
The location and property is stunning as always just needs a sprucing up!

Lovely old building set in what once was gardens set for a palace.
I would not want to be in charge of the maintain of such a large old building

The hotel is basic and needs refab but in a good location.
Value for money for putting your head down

This hotel is full of character. The staff are friendly and really helpful. It is an old building and the decoration and furnishing is arguably a little shabby, but it is very clean and to my mind the shabbiness is part of its charm. The parts that need to be modern - for example the plumbing - function wonderfully: the shower was excellent and the heating, if anything, too good! I had no idea what sort of hotel I had booked and I was delighted with my spacious room, the period furnishing and the wonderful view. Many thanks.

The hotel is about a 40 minute walk to the centre of town, but it’s an easy bus ride from a stop just outside the hotel. I parked my car and avoided the extortionate fees downtown.
The lodge is in an historic building and it’s quite comfortable. Staff were very helpful in getting arrangements done.
It’s a cold breakfast, but a filling one, with good coffee.

This property has seen better days, poor decorative order. The breakfast options were very poor... white bread, luncheon meat, packet chocolate croissant and cornflakes; in 2024? Really? Very disappointed. The lone member of staff was very friendly and helpful.

It was acceptable for the price I paid but overall the hotel requires a complete overhaul, refurb, modernisation and most of all, a damn good clean!

was a very warm and cosy room, staff very welcoming, the bathroom was a real let-down as it wasn't very clean and the shower had no hot water, so it was a cold awakening for me.

Bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Room's bathroom had a musty smell. Otherwise, the room was spacious and clean. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was average. Location was ok, it is outside the main part of Bath, so you had to drive and park to spend time in Bath.
For the price, it was just ok.

Not good , upon arrival we were asked by another couple if we were the cleaners , the place seem dusty& Dirty ,the pillows advertised as duck and down were not , the furniture was old and dated , the bread at breakfast had mould on it and tables were not laid so had to ask for stuff , very diss appointed , the photo of the hotel online were obviously outdated as i probably would have chose a different hotel

If you like faded colonial type hotels then Bailbrook Lodge is for you. I loved our huge Jane Austen suite with its fantastic four poster bed and wonderful curtains plus a lovely view. Personally the very worn carpet and slightly draughty window didn't bother me at all. If you want modern airtight luxury, you might need to go elsewhere and pay a lot more. Very friendly staff also. We would stay there again.
