The pool, the beautiful, quiet place to hang out by the pool / garden. There was a kitchen and fridge as well. Beach was super close. The place offered tours as well, for a good price you would find somewhere else as well.
The bathroom smelled a bit.

Beautiful place to stay in Zicatela. The garden/outdoor area around the pool is really nice, there are nice chairs and shade to chill out in as well as an outdoor shower. Liked that there was a kitchen and fridge to store your own food/drinks as well as small bar where you can purchase beers and soft drinks at a reasonable price. It is a relatively small place so it was never too crowded while I was there, definitely seemed more of a chilled place than a party place.
Staff were always around and they were very helpful and assisted us with laundry, taxi and even a driver to Oaxaca which was great.
Rooms were nice and daily cleaning was really good. Sure the A/C would have been nice but the 2 fans provided were pretty good.
Location wise it is a quiet area but a short walk to shops/bars/restaurants in Zicatela. We also enjoyed the local market which is a short walk a way. You can surf at the beach out the front if you are experienced, it is not ideal for beginners, keep in mind if you want to swim in calm waters and don't like big waves, this is not the best part of the beach as the waves can be quite crazy at the shore. La Punta is better for calmer water - it was about a 30 min walk. We took the free bikes which was quicker but the bikes aren't in the best condition.
I found the pool quite dirty sometimes, it had a lot of bugs. It could have been cleaned more often.
Wi-Fi to the rooms was basically non-existant but it worked well in the common areas.
Be aware there is no safe in the rooms. There are also no bedside lamps.

Everyone is nice and friendly. The kitchen is comfortable :) I liked the design of the common area. Quite and cozy
Needs to clean the pool a bit more often. There are a lot of insects 🥲 and the bad was small for 2 people, because there is no AC
2.5
the intention of the space - low key, simple and well kept
the rooms are HOT and poorly ventilated. I was given Room 10 which was like sitting on the sun itself even though a cooler room Room 7 was available at the time of check in. There are iguanas on the property and in the roof of room 7

quiet and excellent location
there is not air conditioner

Playita offers a great area to chill. It is super close to the beach and close enough to bars and restaurants, but at the same time far enough to have a good night sleep.
The water in the pool was a little warm at moments, but totally acceptable taking into consideration the environmental impact of a more regular change of water.
4.5
Beautiful shared grounds with lots of different spots to sit a relax and having the pool was great. Also appreciated having the cooking facilities and fridge.
Some members of our party would have preferred air conditioning over fans but in the end temperatures were cool enough to sleep at night.
4.5
This place has charm and a peacefulness to it. We liked the community kitchen and the rustic feel, we liked the people that worked there, it was all good.
a little noise at night from a beach club... not terrible, we had earplugs. This is part of Puerto, nothing La Playita can do.

I was here with a group of friends and it was terrific. The property is lovely and chill, the rooms are clean, and you get daily cleaning. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal. The swimming pool is great.
The beach nearby is not for swimming but with the free bikes they have you can easily get to the one nearby. Also, the taxi is not expensive (around 100 pesos).
I would definitely come here again.

Very calm and beautiful space close to Zicatela beach without all the noise! Big rooms, which are cleaned daily. Friendly staff. The outdoor area is amazing with a big pool and options to sit and lay down. You can buy cold drinks all days long at the reception.
Only thing not working well was the shower in our room which either was too cold or super hot.

There was a nice set up for an outdoor common area and kitchen where guests can prepare their own food.
There was large scale construction going on in the plot beside the hotel with multiple diggers, tractors, trucks creating an intolerable amount of noise during the day. It was completely uncomfortable to be in the room during the day because of this noise. There was also a gap between the wall and the ceiling making it possible to hear everything that was going on in the bedroom next door. Bikes are available for guest use but they are in such bad condition that they were almost impossible to ride.

Best hostal I ever stayed in. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely cabañas. Very clean. A few steps from the beach. Lots of communal areas to relax in - by the pool on sunbeds, on a hanging bed in the garden, on comfy chairs or in the hammock at the reception area, on chairs in front of the cabaña.
As some hostals can be quite noisy at night I appreciated the rule of closing the communal area and requesting quietness at 23h. I slept very well.
Free use of the hostal bikes to cycle 10 mins to La Punta for breakfast or shopping. The room was cleaned every day and so were the common areas and pool area. Everything was immaculately clean, including the kitchen,
The lovely outdoor kitchen was very well-equipped.
I spent a week there and would have loved to have stayed longer. Wonderfully relaxing.

The facilities and nice staff!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room and facilities were very clean and well-kept. Host was quick to respond to questions before the stay. Price was quite fair, a good value.

The location is great, short walk to the main drag.
There were termites in the ceiling and you could see them crawling around and they wood chips they ate fell all over my stuff before I realized what was going on. There was also a large construction project that was noisy all day long and prevented a peaceful stay.

Really good value for money, great location and a lovely chilled out vibe
Sometimes Wi-Fi didn’t work but who cares, I wanted to enjoy the beach not be stuck on a screen

Very comfortable and cozy, very close to everything and at the same time you have that peace and quiet.
The staff was very kind, the pool, kitchen and other excellent facilities.
there was a little bugs in the rooms cuz it's a little bit of a rustic, it'd be nice to have some insecticide options

Pool area , general relaxed vibe of the place, very airy and nice in the common areas. Rooms were obviously rustic style but very clean and cleaned well daily. The staff were nice. We had some laundry sent away and arranged for us very easily. We stayed in 2 places in puerto Escondido , one at la playita and another guest house in la Punta area which is actually rated much higher on booking.com however we preferred playita rooms and facilities! Would recommend.
This place is very good value for money. It was a little warm in the room if you sleep late in the day however we were provided with 2 fans so it was fine. Highly recommend. Night time sleeping was comfortable.
4.5
The place itself is very well done, it feels somehow secluded and intimate. The greenery throughout the property, lovely pool and lounge areas, it is a space you would want to spend time in, perfect for relaxing in between exploring.
There's a dedicated shelf and fridge space for every room and nice communal kitchen, so you could cook your meals if you choose to.
It's close enough to the main street but far enough so you don't get noise and it doesn't feel hectic. The ocean is right there, perfect for some sunset action. The sun sets right in front of it.
People are genuinely accomodating and reception people speak English, which is a plus, when you really need to explain yourself.
There's a scooter for rent, so you can take advantage of this option, which I would definitely recommend, because to get around you definitely need some wheels.
Overall we had a really nice time
This is not a negative, but more of a worth noting. If you are choosing to stay in a place like this you should be away that you are pretty much in a midst of nature, so occasional visitors are to be expected, some of which can't be described as traditional pets, unlike cute Kiwi, playitas resident cat.
We had couple of "extra guests" in our room including two iguanas, one big and one little spider and couple of ants of various sizes. None of them are threatening.... But to be expected if you are in a middle of lush greenery.
The other thing is that as of now - November 2022 there's a construction on a road right in front of the hotel, it is not particularly loud, and didn't affect us terribly, we just sort of walked around it and brought the scooter around it. But it is worth noting, cuz coming into the place in a evening, we were met with a huge hole and pile of dirt right in front of th gate and that was a downer. Having said that, they seem to be working really quick, so that might not be an issue in a month or two.
4.5
Quiet location, that is good value and has a community feel. Nice to have a pool and be across from the beach, although the beach is not swimmable in that area for most people because of the size of the waves. You can walk further down to a safer swimming spot near the point.
We had some trouble with the bikes, a bit disappointed they weren't really ridable.

My wife and I stayed at Playita Beach House in the beginning of September, which is off-season in Puerto Escondido. The staff at the hotel was very attentive and caring throughout our entire stay, be it in Spanish or English, concerning recommendations about tours, restaurants or other places to visit. The property, facilities, and rooms were very clean – even the common kitchen. The garden is well taken care of. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms clean. In general, it was quiet and relaxing. We had one of the rooms in the back and enjoyed privacy even on our porch.
Traffic and city sounds were barely noticeable. The Zicatela restaurant and bar scene is just a 10 minute walk up the road. Catering more to the hip youth, La Punta is a 10 minute taxi drive or an hour walk east.
- the common kitchen needs some additional attention: there are barely any bowls and not enough of spoons and forks. I only found one cutting board and rather bland kitchen knives. A few more reusable plastic cups wouldn't hurt either.
- the palm tree that covers the shower near the pool needs a trimming, the shower floor a scrubbing
- in the room, there was no closet to put our clothes, no hangers or else. We ended up cluttering the extra bed. It wouldn't hurt to have at least a rustic shelf or similar. There is a small sideboard with drawers and doors, but that doesn't do it.
- More of a comment than criticism: The shower soap is filled in a neat little glass bottle and sealed with cork. I almost dropped that bottle because there was soap residue on the side and I had wet hands. Nobody wants to step in broken glass in the shower.
3.5
Very nice staff, pool, location
The rooms were very hot and there were only fans but not ACs.
4.0
Friendly staff, nice pool and chilled atmosphere. Free bikes to ride into town
No aircon (my fault - should have checked before I booked) and fans in the room were quite loud
