About this house rental
Best and most expansive ocean views in Costa Rica! Year-round sunsets into the ocean! 4 person Jacuzzi / Hot Tub. This vacation rental home has location, location, location! Only five minutes from the Costanera/Highway to the house on a good mountain road (compared to other roads in the region). A convenient location in Costa Ballena, this home is 10 minutes to many of the most beautiful beaches in the area, 10 minutes to Uvita Town, and 10 minutes to the famous restaurants in Ojochal Town. Cooler temperatures with ocean and mountain breezes on this mountain top perch. Past guests consistently share that this home is a unique and special place that feels private, peaceful, and relaxing. You can see most of the major types of wildlife that people want to see in Costa Rica from the terrace. This is an awesome set up where you can have the full Costa Rica experience of ocean views, mountains, and jungle. This property truly has the best ocean views to road access ratio in the southern zone of Costa Rica. A rare find. An epic experience!
Enjoy seeing the entire southern coastline of Costa Rica from this tropical luxury home, including views of Sierpe (rivers running into the ocean), Drake Bay, the tip of the Osa Peninsula, Corcovado National Park, Caño Island, three sisters island, whale rock island, the famous Whales Tail view, Dominicalito, and Manuel Antonio National Park. This home has Costa Verde Estates style views, but is only 1/5 of the driving time and distance on a much easier and less critical road. With a 180º degree view of the Pacific coastline, they say that you can actually see the curve of the earth! Watch from the terrace and outdoor entertainment area as beautiful tropical birds fly by and land at eye level in the nearby trees, with the ocean views in the background. Birds like scarlet macaws, toucans, aracaris, green parrots, hawks, etc. It’s amazing! You can also see white face monkeys, howler
monkeys, and sloths in the nearby jungle canopy.
This home is positioned where you get good ocean and mountain breezes, and the elevation is such that the temperature is much cooler and more comfortable than it is at sea level at the beaches. The property is located on the mountain behind the beaches of Marino Ballena National Park, which are some of the most beautiful and private beaches. This area is protected for wildlife on the land and marine life in the ocean. This is a special location and environment in the southern zone of Costa Rica.
The outdoor terrace area has a 180 degree coastline view! The large (48 foot long) infinity or zero edge pool is great for swimming laps for exercise, or for relaxing on a raft and floating while taking in the ocean views. There is also a four person Jacuzzi Spa Hot Tub with ocean views. In addition, there is an extra (third shower) outdoor shower with ocean and mountain views.
When relaxing on the couches by the pool and taking in the dynamic ocean views with clouds moving by and islands in the background, you feel like you are in paradise. If you are fortunate enough to experience the times when there are double rainbows and beautiful birds flying patterns with the islands in the background, you might feel like you are in heaven.
There is lush and colorful tropical landscaping throughout the grounds, including local plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. There are frequently beautiful hummingbirds and butterflies hovering on the flowers with the ocean views in the background. There is also a mature Ylang Ylang tree that often provides an amazing aroma throughout the house at sunset, when the winds switch and come from the mountain through the house. Enjoy watching a sunset with the fresh aroma and scent of Ylang Ylang flowing through the house!
This house is one of the few houses in the region that has a custom Juturna whole house water filtration system. The water source is a pristine waterfall in a remote part of the mountains far away from any development. This water then goes through the whole house filtration system before coming out of all of the faucets and showers on the property. This means that you can drink the water, and you do not have to use bottled water during your stay. All of the water on the entire property runs through this filtration system, so you are drinking and showering in some of the best water in the world. This is unique, because most of the houses in the region do not have this type of water filtration, and many of the vacation rental houses are situations where you have to use bottled water for everything. It’s a lot more convenient not having to pick up and lug around large bottles of water. You can have peace of mind here that your water is healthy and safe.
The private gated entrance to the house has a large parking area with big mountain views and space for three or four cars. This house has a one level walk in entrance from the parking area.
The house can open up completely if you want an indoor outdoor feel with a cross breeze of fresh mountain air throughout all areas. It can also be closed up completely if there are times when you want a more indoor feel or you are leaving for the day for an adventure. Both master bedrooms have awesome ocean views (it’s debatable which bedroom has better ocean views), comfortable king size mattresses, and full bathrooms. In addition, there are two comfortable couches in the living room area that can sleep like single mattresses or be pushed together. Guests report that the couches are very comfortable for sleeping.
In the bedrooms, you can sleep with the sliding glass doors open (screens shut) to enjoy the cool mountain breeze and open air feel. Air conditioning is available in both bedrooms, but guests rarely feel like they want or need to use it.
The ocean view master bathroom was designed to feel like a spa experience. This shower can be indoor, or you can open the glass doors to have an outdoor shower experience. You can watch the sunset over the islands from the shower! Both indoor showers have rain water shower heads.

You can walk down the mountain if you want a lot of elevation change and exercise. Alternatively, you can walk slightly up the mountain and along the flat ridge for an easier morning walk. The road in the neighborhood is a large loop, and you can do the whole loop if you are really up for a couple hours of exercise and elevation change.
More fun…
This is a birdwatchers paradise. Guests often report seeing more tropical birds from this house than they see in any other location during their Costa Rica trips.
You can see whales jumping out of the water on the ocean directly in front of the house in the area between the beach and the islands! This is where the whale watching boats go to see the humpback whales during whale season. There are binoculars if you want to have a closer look at the huge humpback whales coming out of the water during those times of the year.
This location has some of the most comfortable temperatures and the most pleasant environment in this region of Costa Rica. When you are immersed in the beautiful natural environment of this home, you can feel the cool breezes and temperatures, see the clouds and dynamic weather changes, breathe in the fresh mountain air, taste the pristine water sourced from nearby high elevation mountain waterfalls, and hear the soothing sounds of the jungle, rolling waves, and mountain streams. You will watch colorful butterflies, dragonflies, soaring birds, monkeys, and other wildlife in this lush green jungle landscape. The photos don’t do it justice. The house is very modern and well decorated. The views are amazing. The pool and hot tub worked great, and the kitchen had everything we needed in order to cook. We ended up not leaving at all during our stay there. Chris was an amazing host as well. He was always available for us for whatever we needed. Hope to come back in the future! Thanks for everything!

What a beautiful home and idyllic environment. This lovely home provided a relaxing few days to finish up our most recent trip to CR. Chris and his team were friendly and forthcoming. The home was immaculate with wonderful amenities. We’ll be back! Thank you for everything.

Our family of four from Texas stayed in this gorgeous house for a total of four nights. We met Alberto in town and he graciously took us up to the house to give us the rundown on all of the features and amenities that Chris has provided with his property for his Guests. The views of the beach from the mountain were outstanding. We will highly recommend this to anybody and hope to make it back soon. Pura Vida!!

Chris is the best host. Sent lots of info. Always answered any correspondence quickly. Very nice and comfortable house. Views were unbelievable. Had visits from many birds. Very definitely a 4 wheel drive up the mountain but you do get used to it.

Our stay was nothing short or spectacular.
Communication with Chris was prompt & informative before our arrival. He met us at a restaurant near the house so we could follow him. He explained any details he thought would help make our stay more enjoyable.
DON'T let any previous review about the road dissuade you from renting this house. You need a 4WD with good clearance. Our Suzuki Jimny was perfect. It had been 30 years since I drove a car in 4WD, and I had no problems. After the first time up and down the mountain & getting used to it, we even drove down to dinner three evenings. One of those evenings it was raining. Don’t worry about the road…it’s fine. One day a tayra crossed the road in front of us. The drive up or down the road is less than 10 minutes.
The view is absolutely stunning…from everywhere. From the pool, the hot tub, both bedrooms, and the master shower. Omg...the shower. I don’t have the words. One of our five days, we never even left the property.
We opened the back door panels during the day and slept with the bedroom doors open & screens closed. We never turned the AC.
The house has the finest high end appliances, along with very nice dishes, glassware, utensils, etc. Anything you would need to cook any kind of meal.
We saw scarlet macaws, toucans, monkeys. A coati walked in front of the pool, around the corner, and looked into the shower!
Give yourself and loved ones a trip you’ll talk about for years to come. Rent this house!

This was our second journey to Costa Rica!! This house was perfect and convenient to all the activities that we were interested in! A4x4 is a must and make sure you take Chris up on showing you the way the first time! While the drive up is intimidating… you will be breathless over the views..monkeys and toucans on the way up and down!!! Whales take can be seen from the pool at low tide and the sunsets are pure heaven sent!!! Costa Rica does have power outages but no worries just open up the house and keep going!!! We did day trips and made sure to enjoy the afternoons at the pool!! There are state of the art Wolf appliances and a massive refrigerator!!! Everything you need is there!! That infinity pool is to die for! With seating ledges !! The rain shower and hot tub are amazing!! There is something dreamy about those views from the shower!!! We visited most of the restaurants recommended in the tip book there!! Rancho Ceilo Alto is a one of a kind experience!!! Chris was very responsive and we felt right at home!! The home is very well maintained and spotless!! This will be our stay when we go back!!! Be sure to do ATV rides…beaches are so close and the waterfalls are amazing!!Chris made sure we had everything we needed including recommendations!!! You will not be disappointed!! If you come and don’t enjoy… Costa Rica just isn’t for you!!! This place is right out of a magazine!!! Thanks Chris!!

Loved our stay at this little piece of paradise. Place is at it shows in the pictures and even more magical with bird and wild life sounds. Size was perfect for 2 couples + a little kid. Easy to maintain during our stay. Loved the special touches throughout the property, including freshly cut flowers at the entrance and inside the house. Kitchen is well appointed with quality equipment and knives. Only thing missing is a small espresso machine.
The view never gets old! It rained hard during two of the days there and it just added a new level of magic, rainbow and all. We still went swimming in the rain! We were lucky to have a full moon during our stay, absolutely mesmerizing.
The stars were equally beautiful! On the first night that we were there, we woke up in the late hours of the night to find the brightest stars that I have ever seen! Twinkling so bright that it made me realize why so many songs have been written about it.
Chris was absolutely amazing. Very helpful during our planning period l, and throughout the stay. He helped with every detail to make our stay even more enjoyable, as well as recommendations on getting there, grocery delivery services, etc.. Highly recommend getting massages…
The only real negative is the drive up to the property. It is steep! Scary the first few times driving up. You do get used to it, though.

As several others have stated in previous reviews, the view is second to none in the Ballena area. We have been coming to this beautiful spot of Costa Rica for 12 years and Curve of the Earth undoubtably offers the best and most beautiful views of any other Villa we have stayed in. The pool is amazing. We spent hours lounging and enjoying the wildlife which included, Scarlet Macaws, howler & white-faced monkeys and several other birds too numerous to count. The Villa was exceptionally clean and well furnished. Chris was responsive to all our questions and concerns and a wonderful host. We would not hesitate for a minute to stay here in the future.

Beautiful house in a quiet and safe area. Close enough to town and sites but far enough that it felt you were alone on a mountainside. Responsive and knowledgeable owner was always available. Perfect trip for our family!

This property is absolutely gorgeous! We enjoyed the incredible view from the pool and every room in the house. The house is super comfortable. And, the host is amazing. Chris helped us plan our trip. I couldn't have done it without him. We had such a wonderful time!

EXCEPTIONAL.

The pictures already let you expect a lot, but when you stand on the terrace in reality, you can hardly believe what a panorama reveals itself - from Corcovado to Manuel Antonio, the entire coast can be seen - while you take a dip in the pool. Chris is a super nice and attentive host, the house is in perfect condition with great furnishings and with attention to detail. Everything is immaculate. Don't hesitate to rent this house, you won't regret it. Bring a 4x4 - the driveway is steep but the road is good and easy to drive. But you will prefer to stay on the property anyway! As a farewell 6 Scarlett Macaws flew over the house - we will be back!

Our family (including multiple kids under 10) has been coming to Costa Rica and renting houses for 8 years, and this house, and its management, is the easily best we’ve experienced throughout that entire time. Here’s why:
It has the best pool, and view. Period. Full stop. We spent basically everyday marveling at how incredible the view was, from sunrise to sunset
The house is immaculate. Many rentals in CR have a few nice surface elements but the whole package is just so-so. That is not the case with this house. Top end appliances. The best shower I’ve ever used. A whole house water filtration system that means all of the water, from tap to shower, is drinkable. We have NEVER had that before. I’ve never even heard of it.
Chris, the property manager, is the most responsive, attentive, detail oriented manager we’ve ever dealt with. He contacted us immediately upon booking, and provided a steady stream of recommendations, advice, insights, and assistance. He had the local restaurant and beach scene totally locked down. It was like having a personal tour guide who was available at a moment’s notice to assist with literally anything.
There are other aspects of the house and grounds that are not obvious, but that reflect the care and attention that Chris brings to managing this property. For example, we have spent years cautiously turning on lights in dark rooms and staring through screens/windows at bugs that seemed to come from a horror movie. This property had practically none of the large alarming bugs you normally get (small flies and things are inevitable but easily managed with the screens). If you haven’t been to CR before, this is a huge benefit.
The house had beach chairs, coolers, and everything you need so you can go straight to the beach. The house has a safe (a great feature, even though it’s a super safe area and we’ve never had problems there), the air conditioning worked great (which is not a given in some houses), and the pool was always clean (not always the case)
Finally, a word on the location. You’re high up on a mountain. There’s no one else around you. When you go outside at night, you see the stars. You hear the animals and the birds. In the morning, scarlet macaws and toucans are RIGHT THERE. Howler monkeys are in the trees. It is just awesome.
This was our favorite VRBO rental. Ever. Cannot recommend it, or Chris, highly enough.

We just returned from the most amazing stay at this house. There are not enough words to describe the property, but everything is spectacular. We have stayed in the area many times and no other rental holds a candle to Chris's house.
To start, the communication with Chris ahead of the trip was seamless. He was responsive to our inquiries and provided all of the information we needed ahead of our arrival at the house. We arrived after a long day of travel and were grateful to be able to easily find the house and make ourselves at home right away. The road up to the house is much better than most in the area. It's a quick ride up the mountain and close to both central Uvita and Ojochal.
The property is jaw-droppingly beautiful. As you walk into the house, you have a totally unobstructed view of the jungle and the ocean, and the gorgeous infinity pool. The sunsets are truly spectacular, the best in the area, I'm sure. We had toucans serenading us every morning and a pair of scarlet macaws visit us every afternoon. Truly magical.
The house itself has everything you could ever need and Chris was kind enough to leave us a welcome basket of yummy fruits and snacks, as well as chilled coconuts, which were a welcome treat after a long day of travel, The kitchen has top of the line appliances and every cooking tool you could need.
The bedrooms are both perfect. Both overlook the pool, jungle, and ocean. We appreciated having the air conditioning at night.
Highly recommend!!

Chris greeted us at the property and showed us the house. Once you step foot into Chris’s house you will be mesmerized my the infinity pool looking out to the ocean! The house was clean and had all the amenities need to cook each night while watching the amazing sunset. You will need 4x4 to get to the house but it’s really not bad at all. Once you get there you will for get about the drive! We will be back again!!

We have had many good rental experiences, but our stay at this property outshone them all. The house is perched on a mountainside overlooking a vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Sunlight infuses the sky and water and lays luminous green over the forest. The property has beautiful flowers, which numerous butterflies visit. The birds are wonderful. There was a Toucan family, including a fledgling, who were drawn to a banana tree on the site. We also saw magnificent frigate birds, social flycatchers, a hunting roadside hawk, and vultures drifting up on air thermals early in the day. On the way up to house one day, we spotted a thrilling pair of scarlet macaws. In the early mornings, we heard distant howler monkeys proclaiming their territory.
The house itself is perfect for the setting. It is open with stunning views from all rooms. The house was immaculate and comfortable, and the kitchen was well-stocked.
Our hosts, Chris and Greg, were unusually attentive and pleasant, and they made sure we had all the information we needed about the area.
The house is only about six minutes off of the main road, but the steep drive up was a little intimidating the first time. However, Greg did a great job of leading us up, and by the second day we were going back and forth to town regularly with no problem.
The weather while we were there (February) was ideal, not too hot and with a constant breeze. There were many good restaurants in town. We especially recommend the bakery and gelato shop.
We want to return to Costa Rica, and if we do so, we will definitely try to stay in this house again.

We booked last minute, Chris went out of his way to make our trip perfect! We have stayed in this area of Costa Rica multiple times but first time at this beautiful home with a fantastic view! Great location to beaches and restaurants. We will definitely stay at this home again . Highly recommend !

This was our second family trip to this area and we fell in love the moment we walked in the front door. The main room is open with beautiful kitchen equipped with everything you will need, including multiple coffee offerings. With the huge glass and wood doors wide open the pool and jungle sounds are heard throughout the light filled home. We really enjoyed watching Monkeys, Toucans, and Scarlet Macaws in the morning while sitting on the patio. Both bedrooms have wall to wall sliding glass doors letting the light and jungle noises in when open. You can actually lay in bed and see the Toucans playing in the trees or hear the distant sound of waves crashing far away. The master bath has double sinks and probably the coolest glassed-in shower. It was crazy to be taking a shower while over-looking the jungle and ocean. So cool!! Also off of the master showers there are glass doors going out to the patio or covered hot tub. We can’t say enough about the house, it was a vacation in of itself, we didn’t want to leave.
The property manager Chris lives close by and helped us navigate things to do and places to go. He was always available and genuinely wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. The road up to the house is best with a 4wd but our RAV4 had no issues even when it rained. We will be booking the house again for next year.
