About this house rental
Having undergone a foundation-up renovation completed in August 2011, Homeport offers a modern design, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent views of Mackerel Cove and Mackerel Cove beach. Settled among houses that have come down through generations of lobstermen, this home offers a desirable location on Bailey Island within walking distance of the Bailey Island General Store, Land's End Gift Shop, and several beaches. The dramatic sunsets and the sense of being surrounded by water truly brings home that you are vacationing on the coast of Maine. The Mackerel Cove waterfront views stretch across all manner of moored boats and lobster docks out to open ocean. Ocean breezes chase hot summer days as they ease into starry nights.
This setting is the ideal place to set out to explore the "rocky coast of Maine" and return to the comfortable home at the end of the day. Venture behind the house and down a conveniently located boardwalk to a semi private sandy beach to search for sea glass and shells, or to take a swim. Homeport was our base for a late August coastal Maine vacation. The house was perfect for us. We enjoyed the fantastic view across Mackerel cove, and the beautifully appointed home. Everything we hoped it would be!

This was our 3rd time staying at HOMEPORT. Starting 20 years ago we fell in love with the area and finding HOMEPORT as a place to stay has been perfect. We have a dog and having the Park only a few feet away is a blessing and having beaches on both sides of the house is incredible. Perfect vacation spot.

The very best features of this house were the views. They were stunning- back and front. Walkable to 2 beaches. Great beds too. Other furnishings were worn and a bit tattered. Be sure to re-wash all dishes before use. We found most including glasses withSome food residue. After some initial housekeeping, we had a wonderful stay at Homeport!

This was our family’s first stay at Homeport and it was outstanding! The location of this home could not have been better or more convenient. There are beautiful views in every direction. We loved the easy access to beaches in front of and behind the house which made our stay with our two young children and dog so much more relaxing. The house was lovely, comfortable and well-equipped and the team from MaineStay was extremely responsive. Can’t wait to return!

This is our second stay at Homeport (the first one was 7 years ago!) and we couldn't have loved it more. The location is amazing - right at the end of Mackerel Cove - with views on the front and back. The kitchen is great - really well equipped and we loved our stay!

We have stayed at HOMEPORT a couple times and each time has been outstanding. The house is great and the location is incredible. We will continue to visit!

Although we all liked the house, the picture in no way shows that not only are there houses right on either side, but the house is located RIGHT on the road! And although one can see Mackeral Cove easily, one has to walk down the “boardwalk” behind the house before one can see the ocean back there. Get. Truthful picture!

Home Port is just a perfect spot if you want to enjoy Bailey Island. The house is in a great location, with all of Mackerel Bay with a public beach in front and a small private beach in the back. We loved watching the goings-on in the harbor and then going to the back beach to watch the sunset. You will find all the comforts of home here, including washer-dryer and dishwasher, which we appreciated so we didn't have to do laundry when we got home. The upstairs master leads out onto your own private deck, which was a prime evening cocktail spot. There is a constant breeze, and even a ceiling fan upstairs so we were never uncomfortable. There is a big TV downstairs but no DVD player. The upstairs master does have a TV with DVD built in. The kitchen is roomy with a great gas stove and all the gadgets you will need. We found the house to be so beautifully filled with light - lots of windows and minimal window treatments were a plus. We plan to visit again and highly recommend Home Port.

The property was in great condition, except for the area rug in the living room which was heavily spotted. I thought there could have been some table cloths, especially for the front porch table and I would have liked a rolling pin and pie plates to make blueberry pie. Otherwise the place was very well-equipped. It was really nice to have 2 big lobster pots because I cooked a dozen lobsters a couple of nights. We had a toddler and I was concerned about the road, but we watched him carefully. My grown kids and my toddler grandchild enjoyed the park and beach across the street and it was heavenly to be able to walk to Glen's and get the freshest, sweetest lobsters possible. Also, it was great to be near the General Store and the P.O. and the restaurant next door. We went to Cook's 2 or 3 times and the soft service ice cream place several times. We got prompt service when the smoke alarm battery went out and was making noise. The washer and dryer were great-- in great condition. Even though the cottage was adequate and beautifully appointed, I think that next year I'd like a little bit bigger place, but still with a great view, if that's possible and not so close to a busy street. Thanks!

We stayed at Home Port for six weeks when we first moved to Maine from Colorado. We chose Home Port because of the stunning location and rented the house sight unseen. We were a little nervous doing that, but when we got to Maine and saw the inside of the house, we were very happy with our choice. The pictures in this listing do not do the home justice. The house is roomy and sun-filled, and there is a gorgeous view from every window. We rented in the off season, and since the house has three heating zones, we were always comfortable. The house is completely updated, and I was able to do a lot of cooking in the well equipped kitchen. When I didn't feel like cooking we got take-out from Morse's Cribstone Grill which I also highly recommend. The house has cable TV and high speed internet. For outside activities there are two porches, a backyard, a park across the street (a great spot for playing frisbee with our dog), a gas grill, and many, many places to walk to. My favorite was the short walk to the Giant Stairs trail. And last but not least, we spent hours watching the lobstermen in Mackerel Cove getting their boats ready for the season. Home Port is a rare find, and we will recommend it to our family and friends who are looking for a place to get away from it all.

The house was in a wonderful location! The view from every window was amazing. The house was in pristine condition, with every amenity I could ask for. We used paddle boats in the cove just behind the home. The rental company was fantastic. They even went to the home and found my daughter's IPod and mailed it home for us.
This is a great place for families or couples. The Island is a little out of the way, as far as grocery shopping and restaurants, but it was fun to explore the areas surrounding Bailey Island. We ate the local lobsters, caught just down the street and it was great!
