About this lodge
The Storm Peak Lodge at Wildcat Canyon is located in the remote San Juan National Forrest. This spacious lodge shares with you the hidden splendor this part of the state has to offer! With 360 degree views, this lodge is the perfect escape to kick back, put your feet up, and enjoy one of the decks. There are countless adventures to be had on the 48 acre lot that backs up to the San Juan National Forrest in the Wildcat Canyon. This property operates as a working ranch with a strong herd of mules and horses being on the back side of the lodge. The lot includes rolling hills, woodlands, creek front, riverfront, and trails. It is ideal for any time of the year but peak activities include, ATV-ing, hunting, skiing, sledding, fishing, hiking, weddings, and family reunions. Weddings and events can be held right on the property as we sleep 30+ in the large lodge and based on availability the smaller lodge can be booked and it sleeps 22. The lodge is unique in so many ways but the most prominent difference among other lodges is our solar power. The Lodge operates off of solar panels for an eco-freindly, off grid stay!
Storm Peak Lodge is just 30 miles south of Telluride and Mountain Village where you can ski, golf, shop, and ride the free gondola. Dolores is also 20 miles in the southern direction offering McPhee Resevoir for all of your lake activities. Cortez is located 40 miles south of the lodge and has a wide variety of restaurants as well as offering Mesa Verde National Park, Canyon of the Ancients, Four Corners Monument, and Phil's World renowned biking area. Day trips to charming downtown Durango are also possible at 70 miles away to participate in the Narrow Gauge Railroad, zip lining, museums, shopping, and more!
If you are planning on hosting a wedding or large event at the lodge please reach out to learn about our accommodations and additional wedding/event fees that are based on the size of your party. We have the ability to house over 50 guests when both lodges are rented simultaneously!

We had a great time at this house and property on our family vacation. There was plenty of room for the 14 of us and it was stocked well with kitchen items, towels, etc…The location was beautiful!

We absolutely loved our stay here. I had my wedding on June 8, 2024, and it was picture-perfect. During our stay, the new moon allowed us to see the Milky Way just by looking up! The location, nestled between Telluride and Durango, was ideal, offering plenty of opportunities for travel and sightseeing. The family enjoyed the trail on the property. The solar power was unique and added a bit of a challenge to getting ready for the wedding, but we were prepared for that. The WiFi was a bit slow, as expected. Despite a small inconvenience of workers on the nearby house during the wedding evening, the overall ambiance of the location was magical and captivating. We would absolutely stay again! Sara was so wonderful and responsive.

This property is absolutely perfect for a getaway with your family. We had a wedding on the property and the background scenery was absolutely beautiful! Even though it was late April and we weren’t sure on weather conditions the snow wasn’t a problem at all. It wasn’t too terribly cold and Mark made sure we had plenty of wood for the fireplace. Mark was great about providing any and everything we needed. I would rebook this house in a heart beat.

Outstanding time in this huge house. Plenty of seats at the table and kitchen bar to feed all of us but and still be in the same room. Plenty of blankets, pillows, sheets and towels for an Army. 45 min drive to Ski Telluride(Mountain Village). Based on the drive during winter you must get 4 wheel drive and studded tires if they have them. Rent Jeeps from DiffJeeps in Montrose or Telluride, great way to go. DO NOT GO IN 2 WHEEL VEHICLES, too much snow, too much ice for the drive. Mark was always quick to communicate and responsive, appreciate it!

BREATH TAKING VIEW!! HOME BEAUTIFULL!! GREAT FOR A LARGE FAMILY!! OR FREINDS TO GET TOGETHER. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRIE ABOUT OTHERS HUGE PROPERTY!!

We really enjoyed the property. The kids had lots of fun sledding down the hills in the property. Plenty of snow. Chose to stay home one whole day so the kids could have a blast.

This property is AMAZING! I can't recommend it enough. We wanted to have a small wedding and have a place for all of our friends and family to stay. The cabin fit more than enough people and it was incredibly cozy. Mark is a fantastic host and provided more than we could have asked for. He was so accommodating, attentive, and kind. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay.
The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous and well taken care of. The kitchen is well stocked and all the appliances work well. Even with 30 people and the cabin being solar-powered, there were never any issues with the electricity or hot water. We couldn't have asked for a better host or a better location for the weekend!

Our family had a wonderful stay at this property. The house was equipped with everything you would need. There was nearby fishing and numerous hiking trails. The pool table was an extra bonus for family game night. Thank you for a great stay, Mark.

This VRBO gave my self, my family, and friends the most amazing weekend wedding getaway! Mark was great and communicative! We had the most amazing time.

We got married here on the property and it was perfect. I couldn’t recommend this enough.

Great location beautiful scenery and river. Lots of room. Every thing we needed

Great place for 16 adults to congregate from all over & comfortably stay. Mark was a fantastic host & helped us with a few things while we were there. Just 45 minutes from the reservoir for boating. Fishing & hiking. Would definitely recommend for this sort of trip. Thanks!

An absolutely beautiful place with wonderful veiws! Awesome location, a large private property bordered by state lands so it's a lovely place to enjoy without intrusion or disturbance from anyone else! The owner is great to work with and we had a wonderful time here!

Perfect for a large family reunion. Beautiful views and plenty of room for games and just hanging out watching TV. We had a great time!! Mark was very helpful and an amazing host!

The house accomodated our family very well. We enjoyed our stay! On the second floor balcony the floor joists were out of the hangers leaving a weak place on the deck. It didn't create a problem for us but it could be a liability issue for the owner. A light above the stairway would be helpful.
4.9
Beautiful property, lots of room inside and out for together time and time alone. Three common areas in the lodge to spread out.
We did lots of hikes, many on property. Family loved fishing and playing in the stream. Many games provided too. Loved the hummingbirds around the deck!

Wonderful setting for our wedding.
There were some glitches with the property but Mark responded quickly and took care of the issue.
Over all a wonderful place to stay.
We loved the beautiful scenery everyday we were there.

The house worked perfectly for our large group. We all really enjoyed being able to stay under one roof and had a great time. Check in was easy and Mark was a great host. The main floor was a great gathering spot. We also enjoyed the beautiful view from the deck as we sipped our morning coffee.
4.9
Gorgeous mountain views! Plenty of beds and space for our family vacation. Peaceful, quiet, and room to spread out even though there were twenty-one people in our group. Already missing the hummingbirds, chipmunks, sounds of the river, hikes, and star gazing from the deck. We loved our stay and can’t wait to return!
4.9
Perfect place for a group trip. Plenty of space and supplies for an enjoyable and comfortable trip. House is solar powered, so give your group a heads up if they are using multiple big power pullers simultaneously. We loved the bottom floor for the kids because there is a pool table and lots of space. The kitchen was perfect to prepare and serve big meals. Host was very responsive and helpful.

The location is about 45 mins from Telluride but the drive to get there is absolutely breath taking. ITS A MUST.
Mark is wonderful. He was very communicative, and even let us get in a little earlier due to us arriving early. When we arrived he showed us everything we needed to know about the place and gave us a little tour. The house is pretty much fully stocked with everything you could possibly need during your stay.
There was so many nice tables and chairs for how many guests we had and the gas grill was perfect for us to grill out on. Of course the views were unbeatable but, Mark made sure the hummingbird feeders were constantly full and that alone was so fun to watch.
To say the least, our time was perfect. Mark, thank you for making our time with family that much more special and for sending the clothes I had of course forgotten during my stay. It was so appreciated.
An absolute wonderful house, view, and host.

We had 14 first cousins for our reunion with lots of room to spread out, everyone had a bed and bathroom. We loved the hummingbirds on the deck and spent many hours watching them! Thanks Mark, for providing the food for the hummingbirds. We cooked most of our meals and had plenty of room for several cooks in the kitchen and we all fit around the table. The area provides lots to do and you still feel like you had a remote mountain vacation in Colorado with perfect weather. A great place to relax indoors and enjoy the outdoors with hiking and exploring.

An incredibly beautiful, secluded and relaxing property! Friends from California had flown in just for this trip. Our group enjoyed the house, the hiking trail right out back. A short drive to Telluride. We’d love to stay here again! Thanks, Mark!

Mark was great with checking in and answering any questions we had.

We loved this beautiful house/cabin! It was so spacious & in a great location in Dolores, even in the winter time. Cozy and perfect for our retreat. Thank you!

If you're looking for a mountain stay that's away from the city and off the grid with no cell service, this is the spot for you! The property is absolutely gorgeous and isolated. Even with it being right next to a highway, we weren't bothered by any passing vehicles. The property also borders national park land, so you can basically go wherever you want! Mark made the check-in process painless and easy. He took the time to show us where everything was and also how to use the backup generator just in case of emergency since the house is run completely on solar energy. The driveway and parking area were all cleared out and we had zero issues with access to the property even with several feet of snow on the ground. Mark made sure there was plenty of firewood for the whole weekend and he even called a locksmith for me when I ended up locking my keys in my truck. 1000/10 would recommend this property and would absolutely stay here again. We are already talking about coming back sometime during the summer so we can explore more of the property when there's not a lot of snow on the ground.

The house was so clean and spacious! Mark was very helpful couldn’t have picked a better spot to vacation!

Highly recommend! Nice, roomy and large property. We enjoyed quality family time playing pool, board games and sledding in the snow. Mark thank you for allowing our furry family to join us. Hope to make another trip this year.

Very cool, well kept, great property for family gathering - we want to come back! Mark is the ultimate host, pleasant, responsive, kept snow plowed so we could get out and see all the sights. A 5+ rating for that gentleman. We've been to many places over the years and this certainly is in the top 3-highly recommend.

This home was so perfect for our Thanksgiving Family trip. The views from every window and balcony were so wonderful. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchen towels, utensils, pots and dishes for us to prepare our meals. Everyone loved the walks on the property by the river. Even at night when it was so dark out it was relaxing to hear the water flowing in the river. We got to visit Telluride, four corners monument and Mesa Verde National park because they were so close to this home. We also saved time for s’mores out on the firepit with some star gazing and the host provided plenty of fire wood. We didn’t run out of things to do and see. Thank you for sharing this home with us. We would definitely love to stay again!

Really beautiful property! We had a great time staying here as a family, and Mark was a very kind host. It was big enough for us to have a karaoke party in the basement without waking the baby sleeping upstairs. Would definitely recommend.

This property is a home away from home. The scenery is gorgeous. It’s nestled in the mountains with incredible landscape. Going in October you see all the amazing colors of fall. We caught beautiful fish in the steam by the cabin. We had the best time. The hosts were very nice and communicated with us throughout the whole stay. We are already planning on going back next year.

We booked this listing to have a small wedding with both of our families. The property itself is gorgeous with beautiful views in every direction. Mark was an amazing host and met us there to show us around the house. He even came back the next day to bring us more firewood. We hope to come back and stay again. Appreciate you having us Mark!

Mark was absolutely amazing, trying to get in contact with him was easy and he was super helpful always. We had a small wedding there and i wouldn’t of had it any other way! The cabin is in a beautiful location with a beautiful view. Me and all of our guest enjoyed every second of it. The lights did go out right before our wedding but as soon as we called mark he took the time and drove up there to fix them. Overall this was a great experience and we hope to go back on day!

I had my wedding at this venue and it was perfection. Everything took place at the house. It was a magical spot and a great place for a small wedding.

To say we loved our stay would be a vast understatement. It was perfect for what we needed. we were having a small get-together (25 people) to celebrate people graduating, new engagements and, a couple that had gotten eloped. It was a beautiful scenery for hiking, relaxing by the river, and partying.
there was plenty of wildlife to see, and we loved that our dogs were allowed to be there as well.
Mark is an amazing host and made us feel so comfortable and was willing to do anything to accommodate us.
There was some kind of mouse in the house that got into people's beds and some of the food...but we were also in the woods, gross but not something we were upset about.
4.9
Our extended family had an amazing time at the property. We had beautiful views from the house and a plenty of room to explore. The fishing was also excellent with easy private road access along the river.
4.9
We stayed here with my family from Tuesday to Friday. Mark did a great job of communicating with us. Beautiful location! The kids spent most of the days playing in Wildcat Creek.
We had a great time and we would definitely stay here again! - Jon
