We have been delighted with our stay in Barbacane house at Eremo del Sole. Lovely house decorated with a lot of style where we found everything. The owner were adorable and very reactive to our demands. The area is just fantastic with a stuning view on Spoleto and the Valley and not that far from Rome 1 our and 30 minutes and Pérouse and Assise (1 hour). It is sure we well never forget this wonderfull welcomed place.

I stayed at Eremo del Sole in mid September with some friends. What a beautiful place located in Spoleto, a gem of Italian wilderness just over an hour outside of Rome. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy the splendor of this wonderful place. As it is still warm enough to take a swim or relax by the pool while sipping some wine.
There is WiFi though it can fade in and out it is the mountains after all. Just ask Anna if have you any problems. She will be more than happy to help.
The large property is well maintained and a joy to walk through. There is a large courtyard for entertaining outside with covered areas to offer shade and a fireplace, as it gets chilly in the evening. Inside was absolutely beautiful and very well kept. The house sleeps about 7 altogether. The furniture was nice and comfy and the upstairs bedrooms had spectacular views of the mountains and surrounding woods.
Downtown Spoleto was not far about 15 minutes by car to shop and explore. Anna the delightful owner recommended we check out the antique Roman house/museum, which we did. It was very interesting to see such an old structure and how the Romans lived in ancient times.
My friends and I had a wonderful time and definitely plan on returning. We highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from the tourist crowded city and sample Italian country living. I encourage anyone interested to visit Eremo Del Sole’s Facebook page. I’m sure it will captivate you enough to plan a trip.
Dear Anna,
My friends and I absolutely adored the house and our stay. We could not have asked for a more kind and friendly host. Thank you for the site-seeing suggestions. My friends and I enjoyed seeing the Roman house and the castle. We do plan on coming again next year.

An impressive property which sadly does not quite live up to the discription. The furnishings are all very tired, the kitchen chaotic, the cleanliness not up to scratch and the worst of all, NO WIFI, although this is promised. Self catering means different things in different villas, in this one, the very basics are provided to last for one day!! A shame, when with a bit more effort and concern for the travellers this really could be a superb property.

We stayed at the Eremo del Sole in late September. As the weather was warm in the day but chilly in the evenings we did not get a chance to sample the delights of the pool and roof terrace or eat outside. Therefore, this review will underplay the delights of these facilities which would add an extra dimension to the house as the pool in particular was a proper size, warm and well maintained. Nonetheless, even being inside in the evening was not a major problem; although not large, the downstairs is an ample size for two and has a great day bed and an enclosed fire (which it was not cold enough to use) and central heating. The ground floor is open plan and incorporates the kitchen which is a little small and under equipped but adequate for normal holiday cooking. If I have a criticism is that the kitchen/dining area is a little cramped and there is a lot of empty space in the sitting area. Another quirk is that if you want to watch TV/DVD, not that we did, you would have to do that in the bedroom. The bathroom on the ground floor is clean and even has a small bath with a shower over the tub. It is not luxury but it is serviceable and does what it is supposed to do.There is a great staircase leading to the enormous bedroom which has superb views over the local landscape through the glass wall which faces west, so there is no annoying early daylight to wake those of you who are photosensitive. The location was great for us as we wanted quiet solitude with the ability to go out for meals if the mood took us, and the house was very quiet and situated in large well maintained grounds which is shared with another house; which is far enough away to maintain privacy. The pool however is shared and comes close to the back of the house; so on hot evenings it could be an issue if the other occupants are splashing around underneath the roof terrace. Although a couple of km out of town, you can be out of the house and sat down in any restaurant in the old town within 20 minutes and parking is free in the town after 8 pm.Spoleto is a great location to base yourself and we had no problem filling a week with day trips and there is still more we would have liked to have done. Anna, the owner is very friendly and extremely helpful and can sort out anything including how to make the perfect pizza and dislodging cars that have become stranded on 2 wheels following a misjudged attempt to reverse down the road to the property. Would we go back? Definitely, but earlier in the year

We stayed at the house in mid july when it was very hot but still lovely ;O)
We were two families – 8 people - that was a bit tight at night – we missed an extra bedroom - but we knew that in advance.
Lovely surroundings, quiet, beautiful views, well kept grounds (thanks to Ladi Singh, the daily keeper of the place). Also the owners Anna and her two daughters were nice and very helpful during the week, having the comfort of their guests as a high priority.
We enjoyed the stay so much we went on very few trips in the area. We just enjoyed the relaxing site. There are actually at lot of great sights in the area if that's how you want to spent your holiday.
The pool is not entirely private since there are two other smaller rentals on the property. We did however feel almost like it was private since we rarely were there at the same time as the others. And what a great pool it was. Very clean and with low amounts of chloride – the kids just loved it (6-10 years). The men enjoyed sitting at the pool at night looking at stars sipping vechhia - or was it the other way around...
You should know that a cat lives on the property - our girls loved it but if you are allergic or just don’t like cats it’s not the right place for you.
We would highly recommend renting from Anna and her daughters – we might just do that again ourselves.
Dear Anna.
Thank you for being at kind host and for your help – especially with the hospital.
If we might suggest a few improvements to your lovely place: Better (read: mostly more and larger) pots and pans. And an internet connection – since most communication with airlines, the planning of trips etc. is easier that way. And finally for the hot summer nights it would be great with insect nets in all the windows so guests can sleep with wide open windows.
After visiting you some of us went to a Toscana. When we arrived they provided us with a bottle of their own olive oil and a bottle of their wine and some other things. It turned out that it was great so we ended up buying both oil and wine. As you know we never got around to visting your shop in delle fate, so we never got to taste your products. Maybe it would be a good idea for you to copy the trick from Toscana?
All in all we had a great time at your house and we might very well come again another time. If we are eight at that time we will go for the house with 4 bedrooms ;O)
All the best from two happy danish families
Best regards Torsten

L'Eremo was simply great. Great location with a lovely pool and Anna the owner was so helpful and friendly. Although on the outskirts of Spoleto a car is really essential. (it is about 4 kilometers to the nearest shop or restaurant.)
Sleeps six comfortably in the three large bedrooms and there would be room to sleep another two in the living room. Garden and views are beautiful. The weather in late june was hot (30 to 37degrees). so we really appreciated the spotlessly clean pool and sunbeds provided. The pool is quite deep so not really suitable for young children We enjoyed the barbeque and the outside dining areas. Spoleto is a lovely town and has many great traditional restaurants and shops. It is also close to other places such as Norcia, Castelluccio and the Valnerina.
I would recommend Eremo and the two smaller units to anyone wanting a relaxing, quiet holiday in the heart of the Italian countryside,
Jack
