Great base to explore Ferndale

Amazing hospitality, cozy room walkable right into town. Delicious treats baked daily for guests! Highly recommend for anyone looking to visit Ferndale!

I would not recommend this property.

The breakfast was good.

The property is very dated. Everything seemed old and not fresh. It took about 5 minutes to get hot water in the bathroom, the room heated by a portable heater, no counter room in the bath, just a sink.

The Shaw House was beautiful, peaceful and comfortable. Everything you would want in a B and B!

Beautiful home and grounds to enjoy. Rooms either have garden or courtyard view. Lots of places to sit and relax both inside and outside on the property. Lots of extras like books, games, DVDs, ect. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Snacks, coffee, tea and breakfast included.

The cleaning service uses straight bleach. The room we booked was lovely, but smelled strongly of bleach from the bathroom. The bathroom windows did not open and the smell was throughout the room. Unfortunately, bleach gives me migraines quickly. Luckly, there was another room available that was larger and only smelled of bleach in the bathroom. We were able to open the bathroom window in the new room. I was able to stay in that room without smelling the bleach and limited use of the bathroom. Staff told me next time to let them know in advance and they could accommodate me with no bleach. Paula was very kind to change our room to one that worked for me and I really appreciate her doing so. I love the Shaw House and would recommend a stay there to anyone visiting Ferndale.

Room could use updating. New carpet, better lock on the door. TV remote didn't work.

Beautiful grounds. The best property in town. Excellent location to walk and explore Ferndale. Exceptional service, the breakfast and coffee and cookies were a delight. The pet friends room and access to the gardens was perfect

Lovely property. Beautiful, large grounds. Well maintained historic property. Well situated for exploring the Lost Coast from the north.

cute place to stay

It was a very quaint little B & B, we had a claw foot tub in our room, so that was interesting…. but made it work. If we could have had a window that opened for fresh air that would have been alright. Other than that, was a very comfortable and cute place to stay. Breakfast was delicious!

We had a nice visit at the Shaw House. Quiet location and beautiful setting.

The setting is very pretty, the bed was comfortable and it is within walking distance to the restaurants and shops. It’s very quiet and we liked listening to the birds. Breakfast was good with quiche and sausage one morning as well as fruit cups, muffins and egg crepe a second morning. The bath towels are thick, not like those flimsy towels you see in many hotels.

The bathroom floor mats are very warm and could use an update. TV only worked with Apps which was too confusing for us who don’t use Apps on our TV.

Wonderful for a one night trip.

Timeshift to the victorian. Very nice and quiet place. The breakfast was incredible. Sitting in the window place, enjoying the cool ambiance while a deer is walking through the garden. We loved it!

Ferndale is nice and kind of beautiful. When you have walked up and down the main street- that’s it. A small selection of restaurants -unfortunately we chose the wrong one- and one bar. You better hit over to Eureka for dinner.

Makes you glad the good old days are over.

Landscaped grounds were wonderful.

Staircase leading to upstairs bedroom very dangerous for older people. It did not even have a continuous handrail. Very hard to get a suitcase upstairs. Dormered walls in room made it seem small and queen bed is up against wall so second person has to shimmy out. Slipper tub works for bath but not well for shower. Breakfast had no entree just a bread pudding which was like having a dessert for breakfast.

I did not know there was only a bathtub in my room. I don't think it was stated on the reservation b

It was good but a bit late as I had to be in Eureka by 8:45. There was a fold up ladder for fire escape but If I had to use it I couldn't open the window. I would have to break it somehow which would have been very dangerous.

I would prefer bacon to sausage (heartburn)

It was lovely!

Gorgeous old house. Grounds were lovely and visitor accommodating. Breakfast was outstanding and cosy. Beds were comfortable.

Stairs are a bear with luggage. Quite narrow with a turn. Do stay here, but bring light luggage.

Exceptional

Beautiful old home with antique furnishings on the main street in Ferndale, CA. The grounds were lovely with many large old trees and flowers. Our room had an antique bed and clawfoot tub. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. It was a beautiful B&B, and we would definitely stay again.

I don't have any complaints.

If you like victorian decor you'll love Shaw House! The breakfast was good but needed another main dish option. Never met the owner, but other staff were friendly and helpful!

Not enough parking spaces close to house. Couch that made into a bed was not comfortable.

The "Shaw Room" was quite romantic.

Downtown location with good eating choices. Quiches for breakfast were excellent.

We prefer king beds but the queen was very comfortable.
