About this house rental
A superb luxury property with sophisticated styling tucked quietly between two period properties with its own private balcony. Castle House is situated directly on The Buttlands, a lovely leafy green square in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. With off-street parking for two cars and parking on road outside, this boutique retreat comes with a large sunny fully-enclosed garden, three bedrooms and two bathrooms making it perfect for couples, a family or a group of friends wanting a spacious house in one of the best locations in Wells.
Castle House is a real gem and has two gourmet pub/restaurants just across the square where you can enjoy good food and wine. Enjoy breakfast at Bang! in Wells, before taking the short walk down Staithe Street to the quay. The property is also in walking distance of the famous sandy beach which is flanked by a pine forest and an iconic row of colourful beach huts.
Offering stylish accommodation for up to six guests, this fantastic house has entertaining and relaxing in its DNA, having recently been fully refurbished to an exceptional standard. At first glance it may look small from the outside, but Castle House is deceptively spacious inside.
Step through the front stable door and you'll discover a large kitchen/dining area with Miele appliances throughout, leading through to a bar area with wine chiller and additional integrated fridge. To the rear of the property is a large sitting room boasting a large corner sofa, wood burning stove, widescreen Smart TV and even a turntable allowing you to enjoy Castle House's own vinyl collection. Bi-fold doors open out onto the paved patio area with garden furniture and beyond this is a large private walled garden where you can sunbathe, relax or barbecue in the sunshine or simply read a book.
Built in 2007 and furnished and decorated to a very high standard throughout in a fresh, vibrant and contemporary style, there is a light and airy feel to all the rooms and the lantern roof light above the hallway and upstairs landing is a striking feature that floods the inner rooms with light.
Castle House will appeal to those seeking a luxury retreat in an unrivalled position. Perfect for a short break or longer stay any time of year, couples, families or friends will adore this fabulous place. You can also book Castle House as a sleeps four option for a smaller group, with the bunk bedroom closed off.
If you are wanting to be energetic head to the quay where you can paddleboard, kayak, take a boat trip, or enjoy a variety of activities including 'gillying'. Explore Holkham beach (walkable from Wells beach) and the Holkham estate where you can walk through the deer park, visit the house, or enjoy the many regular activities that are staged throughout the year. Wells-next-the-Sea sits in the centre of the north Norfolk coast, so ideal for exploring everything this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers.

Supper house and location to stay
Beautifully finished home, very modern with quality finish. Huge tv and soundbar in a good sized living room with bifold doors to a large garden, unusual for Wells. Everything you could need was provided, although more dishwasher tablets would have been good. Great parking and the location was quieter than I expected. Very warm and cosy for a winter stay.. Only minutes from shops and the harbour where many more walks along the coast path are possible.

Great Christmas
We had a super Christmas week at Castle House. We are regular visitors to Wells and we booked it a year earlier, mainly for its location, garden and off street parking but as an all round house it didn’t disappoint. The kitchen/diner was very well supplied and the bench just inside the door so useful as we had dogs with us. The lounge was comfortable for 4 adults, great TV for the Christmas films. Yes the house needed a little tidy up which the new owners are currently undertaking but we still had a fantastic time and can’t wait to see the pictures after it’s been done. The only negative is that the second bedroom was very small for 2 adults. Very sadly for us, we can’t come back as it is now only possible to bring 1 dog and we have 2, but otherwise we would have already rebooked.

Fantastic Wells
Could not get a better position in the town. 2 parking spaces with another on the street in front of driveway. Excellent large garden, although there is an out building with broken glass. Not a problem for us but would be with small kids.
Could not for the life of us work out how it takes 6 hours to clean the property. Sticky W/C floor, dirty cooking pots, dirty plates.
The property also has a few issues with cracks in the plaster walls. I’m sure this will all be fixed. We would and probably will book again next year.

Amazing location
Beautiful house just lacking utensils to dish up Sunday roast and would have been nice to a least of been able to have a cup of tea on arrival, location is amazing as is the size of the house and the parking is a massive bonus

Castle House - A perfect hideaway in Wells-Next-the-Sea
This was our second stay in Castle House on the Buttlands, just a short stroll from the Staithe and all the shops and restaurants. The garden is enclosed, ideal for our retriever to play in, and the two car spaces outside the front door are gold-dust in this rather parking-challenged town. The enormous TV in the lounge was fun and the wifi worked well. The kitchen crockery could do with updating but otherwise the kitchen was well equipped. The beds were comfortable and the house was quiet at night.
Our meal in the Globe on the Buttlands was rather disappointing, but an excellent meal at the Crown made up for this. Booking meals was still competitive even in the third week of September - even the Fish and Chip shops had long queues. Fortunately, the local mini-supermarket was well-stocked and we ate in Castle House for much of our stay.
Parking in Wells and Holkham used to allow a weekly ticket but this is now discontinued, so parking pro-rata can be very expensive over the week. The beach is only a mile away though and walking is a healthy option.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would thoroughly recommend Castle House as a place to stay in Wells-Next-the-Sea.

Stay at castle house
The property is great but it wasn’t very clean in the lounge
The carpets upstairs weren’t great
The sofa in the lounge had a cushion that smelt bad and both the throws were dirty and smelly but Norfolk hideaways did take these away when I reported it but the cushion on the sofa still smelt so there was only one sofa we could use in the lounge
When I lifted the cushion up there was a partially used blister pack of medication and some other rubbish too
Not a great standard of cleanliness
The property it’s self is great but needs some attention and needs deep cleaning there was also clumps of dust and hair on the floor in the lounge
Was not happy overall
The only reason I wouldn’t recommend this property is purely because of the standard of cleanliness overall

family holiday
Castle house is a lovely holiday home with plenty off space and big garden. Handy to have 2 bathrooms and down stairs toilet. Tv in master bedroom and kitchen and a very large curved tv in the lounge. Quiet location at the buttlands and a drive to park 2 cars. Local pub The Crown and The Globe located on the buttlands and small super market around the corner. Bulb in bedroom wasnt working and their was no replacement. When we arrived at Castle House there was dog hair on stairs and on living room rug so needed to hoover first as we have a 2 year old with us, nothing against the dog but hair should off been hoovered up by cleaner.

Ideal Getaway
Quiet Location yet minutes away from downtown Wells Next The Sea. Well appointed and comfortable cottage with own driveway. Stayed for a fortnight , was like a home from home. Will return.

Superb location, supremely well equipped and supremely comfortable.
Absolutely brilliant house, clearly in need of some tender loving care redec wise, but my holiday was not affected by that. Excellent heating and hot water, not always the case in rental properties. I benefited from the two big hotels nearby being closed, and this meant it was dark and peaceful. Not sure what it would be like in high season with everything open! Whatever, the house was one of the best rental properties I have ever stayed in. I loved every minute of it. I do not have a dog but there was no sign in the house that dogs had been here. The weather was too poor to use the garden so I cannot speak for that. As for the surrounds, do visit the cakes at Howell's bakery, best in the universe.

Great place to stay
Super house, well equipped and in an excellent position for town, beach and countryside walks. I would be happy to live here for the rest of my life.

Castle House
Castle House is lovely and in a great location. We enjoyed our stay but would point out that the house is a little run down in particular the carpets were very stained (very large stain at the top of the stairs). However overall the house was clean and well presented. The storm damaged table was cleaned up efficiently and by a very friendly employee. The space is great - as above just a little tired around the edges - the henry hoover smells dreadful if used.

Wonderful House
Really enjoyed our time spent in this house, we have stayed before and think it is in a superb location for all eateries, the beach, shops, everything. It is great it has parking as this is a really busy area.
The house is very comfortable and cosy.
Some comments, please can we have hooks on doors and our bedroom was cold, the heating was a bit difficult to sort out.
also the lamp in the back bedroom was intermittent even though we brought a new bulb i think the fitting was loose.
We would go back but these comments would improve our stay.

Ideal Location
We've stayed in Wells many times before, and this is the best accommodation we've found. Perfect location, own parking, large garden and dog friendly. Wished we could have styaed longer, will be back again

Lovely house, lovely location
We did very much enjoy our stay at Castle House. The garden and balcony are a very nice bonus to a spacious and well laid out house. The position is perfect - overlooking a large green where kids and dogs enjoyed a play and a local market came to the green and our doorstep for the day! The walk down the lane to the waterfront was my favourite place to wander. The pubs are lovely, everyone was friendly, it’s also very child and dog friendly.
Some minor snags... The house could do with a bit of a spruce up in places like the bathrooms and kitchen and other similar holiday homes offer little toiletries which would have been a nice touch. Not enough day to day kitchen items were available (dishwasher tablets, bin bags...) and the cleaners had put a lot of recyclable items in the main bin which is a real shame.

Castle House - Wells next the Sea
My young family and I were very excited about staying at this fabulous looking property in the perfect location in Wells complete with off road parking space, however I was so disappointed on arrival. The floors did not appear to have been hoovered or mopped and the rugs particularly the large one in the main living room was covered in animal hair which did not come up properly even after I hoovered it again. This was not ideal particularly as we have a seven month old daughter who is just crawling, nor was the mass of exposed wires next to the tv unit (not safe for our three year old either). Some of the cutlery and crockery was also not clean in the drawers and cupboards nor was the stained bedding in the main bedroom. Overall the property and outside garden area appeared tired and in need of some general repairs and maintenance, my husband also found there was dog muck left uncleared in the garden (again not ideal with small children). We were hoping this might be a property we would return to again and again as we love the area however sadly this will not be the case.

Our time at Castle House
We actually had a great time at Castle House, its location , size, and décor all great. We did however have a few small problems enough to warrant us contacting customer services at the end of our stay. There was not a bath mat in one of the bathrooms and this had already been mentioned in the guest book. There were no board games as stated in the contents. There were some other issues re cleaning and these will hopefully all be rectified so that others will have no reason to complain. Apart from these issues our stay was amazing and we would gladly stay again.

A lovely week in a very pretty location.
We had a lovely time staying at Castle House, which is very well located. It is a well equipped modern house which unfolds to a large, I think, South facing garden, which was also very child and dog friendly. A great place to stay.
Our only negative would be that the upstairs bathrooms, we thought, were in need of a re-paint and some of the carpets, particularly the stairs were showing signs of wear and tear.

Wonderful location
Castle House lived up to its description. We spent a very comfortable week ,it was a shame the weather was so poor. The bed is super comfortable .Wi Fi and TV both of a good standard .
The garden is large and would have been lovely if we had seen the sun.Parking for two cars including one largish one very convenient
