Fabulous breakfast...lots of choice and delicious
Would have liked better pillows and a warmer duvet...and some coathangers!!

Excellent location in Peak District. Stunning view from the room window. Spacious room and nice bathroom.
The hotel building needs a bit of redoing from outside…

Excellent diner

Fantastic location, lovely room with fantastic view. Duty manager Glynn could not do enough to welcome us and make our stay enjoyable and Will was lovely too
I would just say that the guy who was having a meltdown in the kitchen shouting at the chef/staff should be aware that's not a good thing to do when there are guests in the dining room hearing every word.

Charming, old school, hotel in a fabulous location. We had a stunning view from our room, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the meal and beers were excellent.
The room could have done with a little updating, but then it might have lost its charm!

Staff were very friendly. The view from our room was beautiful. Dogs loved their sausage breakfast. We enjoyed our meals at the hotel. Great walk on the door step.
Motor bike a bit noisy at night leaving car park.

One of our favorite places we’ve stayed at!
Not a grand or particularly luxurious hotel but full of character made even better by the wonderful staff. They went out of their way to make everyones stay a really good one. Food was very good too
The hotel is in an ideal position for the Monsal trail with lots of other walks right on your doorstep. The views are spectacular!
No complaints at all

The staff were super welcoming, friendly and helpful. They helped me plan my walks, meaning I saw things that I otherwise would have missed. The meals were delicious and made with good quality ingredients. I loved the little window seats looking out across a beautiful scene.
I could hear the occupants of the room next to me. The restaurant portion sizes were a little big, I couldn't finish my meal!

The breakfast and location were excellent.
There was a mistake with our booking in as much as we booked for 2 nights but they only had us down for one. However, we were on our way home so we decided to stay the one night only. Sean the deputy manager was excellent in resolving the issues and refunding our money.

as with all the other comments about this place it could do with a lot of TLC!
what we did like was the hosts, david and his partner, he bent over backwards to make sure our stay was ace!
the views are to die for, when we went it was a very hard cross wind blowing from left to right so you had to be aware of if you stood near the edge you wasn't blown away!
and wear a hat with a chin strap!
breakfast was very good and hot and toast with the food wasn't done about 3 days before you got the breakfast!
the bed was very good soft and welcoming, and a very good nights sleep, didn't really want to get out it was that comfy!
nice assortment of teas and coffee and the wonderful hot chocolate drinks
lovely view of the mountains from the bedroom window,
huge shower, I think you could have a walk in shower party it was that big! also it had a roller blind, but I think a netting type curtain would have been enough, as it was a beautiful morning and you had to shut out the natural light and put the lights on so the view of having a shower and looking at the mountains was blocked
car parking is a bit of the car park cordoned off to park your car, the duty manager was kind enough to move his car so we could park ours, thank you very much!
what I didn't like! well the price for one! £160!!!! a night!
yes we could have gone somewhere else I hear folk say but it's our one main holiday of the year and you'd have expected something quite special!
for that price I'd have expected to be sleeping in a palace, going by the previous night in chesterfield and that was priced at £85 and this is nearly double.
net curtains could have done with a wash, grubby ends, and the woodwork could have done with a lick of paint, drab room in green, could have come into a more colourful room, and the most tiny of TV's in the top corner of the room!
a bigger TV wouldn't have gone amiss!
the blind in the bathroom could have done with a clean lots of flattened flies stuck to it!
the bathroom door could have had a good polish thick with dust, the plug hole in the basin had someone else's hair stuck in it! yuk and wasn't going to have a look at the shower one!
water did escape the shower tray and leaked on to the floor!
one of the bedside shades was just held on by 1 strut! so very wobbly.
it was a cooler night than on previous nights and wanted a touch of warmth in the room but just couldn't get the radiator to work, it was all electronic and never got it to work!
in the main hall well we ate there the previous evening, still a limited menu, but nicely presented when it came and reasonably priced.
the floor could benefit from a good polish, or even stripped back and a good hard wearing varnish put on.
I think it's a very pricey place, I think the room should be in the £70 range but I think you'll be paying extra for the views.
I don't think we'll ever visit this place again due to being over priced and the state of the room.
the hosts on the other hand was very sociable and it's nothing to do with them, the owners of Monsal head hotel should be very ashamed of this beautiful place going to rack and ruin, it could be so much better!
sounds like a "four in a bed!
