We were very fortunate to find this property in the wonderful Silvermines for a quick weekend trip over to Ireland.
It is such a beautifully finished, well-appointed property to use as a base for travel further around Ireland, or to enjoy the peaceful countryside from in its own right.
Karin is a fantastic host who could not have been more amenable and hospitable.
We very much hope to return in the near future.

The village of Silvermines is nestled on the side of Keeper mountain in a gorgeous valley with the amenities of Nenagh a quarter hour away by car and the beauty of Lough Derg and the Shannon River also very nearby. We were comfortable in the spacious two storey apartment and had ready access to some really lovely parts of the country.

Our four day stay made possible side trips to Dingle area and Cliff of Moher. Very helpful on site manager. Lovely pub a stones throw away.

The photos of the property don’t do it justice. We stayed in Old Forge II with a wonderful view of the rolling, green hills, the lovely garden and the sound of church bells ringing. Karin, as all have said, was very nice and welcoming and of course a visit to Hickeys Pub was a great recommendation. Silvermines is tiny, accessed along narrow country roads, but worth the drive. After days trips all over, it was always great to come “home” to our place. Very nicely decorated, great water pressure, nice, separate washer and dryer, new, sparkling bathrooms. If you can’t tell, I’ll say it clearly, we loved our stay there :)

Beautiful vacation house in a beautiful scenery
The cottage is as beautiful as described, and has all the comforts needed. It is kept sparkling clean and with luxurious linen and towels. We were welcomed very kindly with a delicious home baked bread with butter and jam, and milk in the fridge. We got some useful local tips and took a very nice long walk in a trail just a few steps from the house.
We thank Karin and Paul for their hospitality and warmly recommend staying in this place to others.

The property sits on Silvermine's main street, with the Catholic Church presiding at the top of the street, a neighborhood pub across the way, and a hidden gem of a general store farther down the block. It's a charming, quiet village. Nothing disturbed our peace and quiet. You can set out the front gate onto wonderful hiking trails of varying difficulty. The accommodations are modern with all you'll need to cook in, if that's your preference. There was lovely local bread, jam, and fresh cream waiting for us. And if you lose your cell phone somewhere in Nenagh, Karen can work her Irish magic to help you find it. We loved our time here.

Just as described. We really enjoyed our stay here. Delightful and well designed apartment. Good base to travel around the area. Nice pub across the street as is a convenient shop for basics ( go early for bread and scones).

I’ve rented many places and this might be the best. The place is spacious, clean and well equipped. The small town of Silvermines was beautiful. We enjoyed local restaurants 10 minutes away. But absolutely had a fun evening at Hickeys Bar across the street. We enjoyed Tommy the owner and local folks for hours. The houses is very private and clean. The beds comfortable and showers wonderful. This is a little out of the way, but worth a day or two.

Stunning village cottage
The property is absolutely beautiful and felt far more spacious than I had expected. The decor and furnishings were tastefully done while keeping with the theme of a country cottage.
Karin was very accommodating of our late arrival and even offered to rearrange the beds to better accommodate our teenagers even though it was nearly 11 at night. The next day She left us a detailed note of all the local activities which we found very helpful in planning out our days. Thank you Karin!
We used Silvermines as our home base and did day trips to nearby cities and attractions. We absolutely loved the quiet and tidy atmosphere of this village and would definitely stay here again.
Visiting the local pub, Hicky’s, is an absolute MUST! All the people we encountered were warm and extremely friendly. We learned a great deal about the area from people that lived there their whole lives. Everyone from grandparents to 19 year olds gather here to socialize and share stories. And the bartender Tom pours a stellar glass of Guiness :)

Remote but amazing place
We were welcomed immediately by property manager and she was lovely. We had everything we could have needed. We felt at hone immediately. It was quiet, clean and extremely comfortable. This is a very remote property however Nenagh is a quick 10min drive and there you will find pubs, groceries and whatever you need.

Central location for our family heritage holiday
Everything was wonderful and as describe. A very peaceful and safe country village. We were a family of 6 individuals and so booked both Old Forge I & II. Karin was very welcoming and helpful. I would recommend this property to friends and family particularly those investigating their family heritage.

Fabulous rental
The Old Forge cottage is amazingly appointed. Huge bedrooms, great kitchen and a fun sunny patio overlooking the hills.
Close to Limmerick and Lough Derg lake that has great hiking trails. Nenagh is a very close drive with lots of shopping and restaurants. The local pub across the street and convenience store are very handy.
The host is very helpful. Would definitely return.

DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
We rented Old Forge II because we wanted a place centrally located that would allow us to "day trip" and see all the tourist attractions then come "home" at night and relax away from the crowds. That is exactly what we got.
Karin greeted us on our arrival, with a welcome package including a loaf of fresh bread and condiments along with coffee and tea. She showed us around the cottage and gave us some details about places to eat, shop, etc, in the nearby town of Nenagh. It was very convenient having her downstairs if we had any other questions or concerns during our stay.
The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. Everything was modern and updated, yet managed to incorporate a lot of the charm from the old forge that previously stood there. (We especially loved the heated tile floors and towel bars in the bathrooms, as well as the cozy wood stove in the main room upstairs). But the best feature by far, was the view looking out on the courtyard and mountains beyond. Just spectacular! In addition, the wonderful, aromatic scent from the peat fires burning in the village is something we wish we could have "bottled up" and taken with us.
Silvermines is a beautiful, peaceful little village with friendly and welcoming residents. We enjoyed meeting many of them and shared a lot of great craic at Hickey's pub across from the cottage. If we ever have the opportunity to visit this beautiful country again, we would definitely love to return to this hidden gem.

Charming cottage and welcoming hosts
We were not disappointed with our 2 nights. In fact, the property exceeded expectations. The owners have done a great job of creating a beautiful and comfortable space. The gardens are lovely. There's a fantastic view of the mountain and landscape. We had perfect weather so were lucky. We were able to cook in the cottage one evening and were out another.
The village of Silver Mines is very small and other than a very basic grocery store and a pub that didn't seem to be open around the time we had a taste for a pint, it is a well kept, pretty town nestled on the side of the hill. Go for a walk and you'll see the remnants of the old silver foundry.
Hosts were lovely. If the location suits you, we highly recommend.
