La Herradura
The beautiful bay of La Herradura, with its nearby town of Almuñecar, is the tourist capital of the Costa Tropical. It belongs to the province of Granada in Andalusia; located between the Costa del Sol, to the west, and Costa Almeria to the east.
The Herradura is one of the most attractive bays along the southern coast of Spain, with two large natural promontories, Punta de la Mona and Cerro Gordo, protecting a long, two-kilometer long sandy beach.
About the village
The village itself is located east of the bay; it is a typical Andalusian village of whitewashed houses, sitting on a gentle slope leading to the beach.
The village offers shops, bars and restaurants. Going down to the beach, there is a beautiful promenade that runs the length of the bay. Perfect for a walk in the early evening before dinner, and watch the sun go down.
Climate
The Sierra Nevada mountain range, which has the highest peak in continental Spain, forms a natural barrier that protects the coast from the currents of northern Europe, while Africa, to the south, helps cushion adverse effects of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The presence of the sea limits the heat in the summer. The climate of the Costa Tropical is considered the sunniest climate in Europe
Beaches
The Herradura has a fine sandy beach, which stretches for 2 kilometers, and around this beach, there are 19 kilometers of rugged, beautiful coastline, with a variety of beaches, long rocky shores of great beauty, small creeks.
Water sports are very popular and there are many companies offering different types of courses and rental of sailboats, motor boats, kayaks, etc ... The divers will find here the best underwater spots, all the Spanish coast: marine reserve which is home to a huge variety of fish and other marine life.
Natural environment
From home, you can almost touch Africa. This unique point of view is what gives the Costa Tropical its geography and climate so special, so different from any other coastline in southern Spain. The rugged hills rise abruptly from valleys or dramatically plunge into the sea. The hills provide a perfect ground for almonds, avocados and mangos. The great Sierra Nevada is visible, sometimes snowy, and overlooks this beautiful coast still unknown.

We were a group of 12 friends seeking sun and relaxation. This house provided us with both. It was one of the best stocked houses I have ever rented. Surplus of cups, plates, mugs, cutlery, pots, pans. The sliding doors created a great indoor -outdoor experience. Had some glitches with water due to a break in the line but Nathalie was responsive and took time to ensure things were restored promptly.

Tucked away at the top of the hill. A large family villa with plenty of bedrooms and space to chill. Good sized kitchen with all the necessary equipment. Outside lots of seating and sunbeds around the pool which has gates for safety. The hot water was not always available but there were a lot of us! You definitely need a car.

We have been renting properties for 45 years and this villa was by far the most incredible. The photos in the listing are very accurate and we were not disappointed when we arrived. The kitchen was better equipped than anywhere we have ever stayed. We wanted for nothing during our stay. Nathalie, the property manager, was very responsive when we contacted her about some minor maintenance issues and they were quickly fixed. We would eagerly stay at this property again.

A fabulous very large villa, set in beautiful gardens with a lovely, clean pool (the solar cover worked really well) and fab sea views. The villa was clean, well equipped and very spacious. Perfect for our week away as 3 families.

Huset levede op til vores forventninger med få mindre ubetydelige mangler. Rigtig god terrasse, pool, stor gasgrill. Opkobling manglede til TV med HDMI kabel. Dette ville have været rart.

We all loved this property, everything was perfect.

Villa Wanislas is a beautiful and modern villa with spectacular views. The photos on Vrbo were a true reflection of how magnificent the villa is. The pool is lovely, just the right temperature with shade on the patio and sun round the pool to suit everyone. The whole family loved it here.
The master bedroom is amazing with wonderful views and a lovely en suite bathroom, and there are two further lovely double bedrooms downstairs with their own bathrooms. There are three bedrooms with single beds so the villa ideally suits three couples and their children, although we had two couples with their respective children and grandparents and great grandparents.
The property has air conditioning which was lovely when it was hot, and had all the appliances you would wish for. There are several places for everyone to eat together.
Overall a really lovely holiday, thank you for a lovely stay.

We’re a group of 13 (3 families) who just got home from a wonderful week staying at the villa. The view from the terrace is just stunning overlooking Herruda and the sea - we saw some beautiful sunsets during the week. We absolutely loved the space and outside pool - the open plan living/dining area and terrace is so huge that you can all be in the same area and it feels like there is plenty of room. The bedrooms are all nice, with sliding doors that open and well equipped with air con and shutters.
Herruda is nice with a strip of restaurants and beach bars - the beach is gravelly/pebbly - with water sports and sun beds you can hire. We also went to the marina a couple of times for lunch and dinner, which is a pretty spot. We went out on a private catamaran one afternoon, which we all loved and we also took a day trip to the Aqua park, which was busy but reasonably priced and lots of fun.
Couple of things to mention for info: you definitely need a car if you’re staying here, it’s approx 30-35 mins to walk down to Herruda but would take longer to walk back up and is a long, windy hill…there are not many taxis around so you need to pre-book.
There were lots of mosquitoes around so bring repellent and citronella candles/plug ins, we all got bitten a lot.
Nathalie, who is the manager for the property is really nice and helpful. We had a problem with a locked door when we stayed and she arranged for someone to come out and sort it on the same day. She also recommended taxi companies etc..

We hade a wonderful stay in the villa for a week. The wiew over the mediteranian and sunset is fantastic. The pool was nice and large. House perfect and the rooms nice. Only thing negative is the distance to the ocean and center becuase the house is located so high up. You need a car for transport everywere.

This is certainly a ‘wow’ property from the moment you step in the door. Views from living room and terrace are amazing. Rooms are spacious and clean, so plenty of space for 3 generations to enjoy. The pool is lovely, plenty of sunshine and shade to enjoy. Variety of eating areas, a great place for families to enjoy.

We enjoyed this marvelous cited villa above La Herradura with a spectacular 180 degree view on the ocean.
The pool was also amazing and well mainenanced.
The only fly in the ointment (actually a bit larger than that) was the building site in the direct neighborhood and related excessive noise during working hours. At least, the agency/owner was granting a rent discount.
Overall, we would love to return to this great villa again.

Our group of three families (6 adults 8 kids) had an absolutely fantastic week stay at this house. The view is stunning and made every morning special, the house was more than large enough for all of us, the pool and balcony were awesome, and the manager Nathalie was super helpful, even lining up a babysitter for a couple nights and a cool. Can’t recommend this house enough! We want to go back!
