The peaceful, pretty surroundings within the property. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our particular needs. The food in the restaurant is carefully prepared and well-presented.This is a perfect getaway to recharge in the Western Cape vineyards, sans the 2 hour-flight! Access to the large picnic area that offered a large variety of foods for every age. Boatrides on the Vaal River were very popular-especially at sunset.
The slight, occasional odor that comes from the bathroom.

The breakfast facility was unacceptable
A long walk not open when we arrived still cleaning the floors etc
Breakfast took an hour to arrive and not very edible

It’s beautiful, on point. The staff is helpful and friendly. There’s also so much to do
The menu is limited. The food, I asked for medium eggs, they well done - for two breakfasts.

The ladies at the reception desk are the most welcoming. In fact all the staff, from the security at the gate to the people at the bar. It’s super clean, spacious. The views are great. Everything was perfect.

The rooms were excellent - very comfy, just the right space. The reception ladies were excellent, especially Tshepo.
The breakfast was very good. The service, however, was very slow.

The staff were outstanding - Palesa at the Hotel reception was wonderful and so attentive. Thandi & Simba in the restaurant were truly excellent too. Beautiful location, it has grown considerably since I was there last. A magnificent little getaway from Johannesburg. We also loved the property and ran a lovely 8km on Sunday morning. Truly special stay! Thank you team.

The location is wonderful and restaurant food was passable.
We arrived 4 hours after check-in time due to heavy traffic on Friday and staff were entirely unaware of our booking. Despite showing reception the reservation and being literally the only guests at the hotel in Friday, we could not check in.
When we returned 2 hours later after dinner, we were made to wait and additional half-hour before being placed in a room which had not been cleaned and did not have the amenities I paid for with room upgrade. Reception did not pick up the phone when we tried to reach them.
After lunch the next day we discovered no turndown services were performed as they apparently only happen on request, of which we weren't informed.
Staff were entirely unwelcoming and mostly argumentative. We had to make 3 bookings with spa at different times to finally get a booking accepted. Later when we noticed that there is a 25% spa discount for hotel guests advertised, (of which noone advised us,) they refused to help us get the discount applied.
I didn't want to cancel as it was such a hassle to get a booking!
The spa experience was disappointing to say the least, with showers that don't have adequate pressure to wash off body scrubs, dirty outdoor Jacuzzi and therapists who'd clearly rather be doing anything else.
I think the only people who experienced a relaxing weekend were the staff at this hotel. It was a relief to check out.
Oh and the rooms aren't soundproof. Saturday night I hardly slept because of rowdy guests nextdoor who continually tampered with interconnecting door.
I didn't get the name of the manager of this facility but he clearly shouldn't be in charge of anything.
I'll be removing booking.com as they clearly do not adequately vet the hotels they list. Shocking!

It’s a charming, relaxing, romantic and a very quick drive from Johannesburg. The hotel rooms are nicely decorated and overlook a small vineyard. quick walk to the river and a beautiful picnic area. The picnic side of the estate is like a little French village with a kids park, picnic area, swings, water fountains, walking track along the river and many small boutique shops ( coffee, ice cream, biltong, sandwiches, pizza etc).
The food from the restaurant which overlooks the river is great. Not a lot of variety but very tasty!!
Highly recommended is your are looking for a refreshing and relaxing time out.

The room was not bad. Good spacious room for 2 people. Bed was comfortable at least. Room was clean. The gardens are well kept and clean
This place is over rated and over priced. For the price payed per night one would expect more. The service at the dining room was not great. Looks as if they are under staffed as we waited very long to get our breakfast order. For a hotel of this stature one would expect to get a decent menu or buffet breakfast but you have a limited choice, and not even a Caffe Latte is available on the menu.

The views and clean room
We booked one of their most expensive rooms and the room had a broken toilet seat which made it extremely uncomfortable to sit on the toilet.
The food at the hotel restaurant take over an hour to arrive and the restaurant staff take over 15 minutes to bring you the menu after you've been seated.
There were no umbrellas available at the property for walking from the hotel room to the restaurant. We asked for one and were not given any. We also asked a lift to avoid walking in the rain and there was none. We were told that the fireplace inside the restaurant is also broken. We were sitting in the cold restaurant, wet with no food.
When the food eventually arrived it was delicious.
The bar at the winery has very little stock. Most of their wines and sparkling wine was sold out. The waiters don't clear out your table and the shop staff came to stand next to us and farted loudly while we were trying to order pastries.
It made our experience extremely unpleasant.

The food was great 10 out of 10! Very well presented! - breakfast (x2) and dinner (x1)
The service during dinner on Friday was poor and the waiting time before receiving our order was unacceptable.
There should be a manager or head waiter present and available throughout the evening in the dinner area!
The level of noise should be managed as well. If a table with guests overstep the boundaries the manager should go there and gently, but firmly address them "Will you kindly lower your voices so that other tables are able to follow their own conversations". All need to enjoy their dinner!
Same applies to breakfast - no need to wait more than 15 minutes for a coffee order. On Saturday we waited more than a hour for breakfast.

We stayed at Pont De Val for a night at the boutique hotel. The room was comfortable and the views were really nice. The picnic area was stunning.
The breakfast did not cater for our requirements. We were told the omlettes consisted of salmon but were actually served a heavy haddock. There were no fruit platters, yogurt, pasteries, scones ..etc - there was no variety. As we paid the steep price for a 4 star hotel,we expected a decent breakfast with more varieties. In terms of lunch, there was limited options for people like us who do not consume beef or pork, however the waiters did accomodate our request to remove the pork/beef from our meals. The starter duck and salmon tartae was not upto standard, the duck being too sweet and all dishes ordered lacked seasoning. The bread served with the salmon starter and breakfast was hard like rocks - once again we were not asked what type of bread we would prefer. The standard menu at the restaurant was satisfactory for dinner. In my opinion the food was below average and overpriced. The waiters were friendly and hospitable.
