A good sized house with generous proportions, rather bland decor internally, The road is reasonable busy esp. during the day. Overall, good value for money esp. if you needed three bedrooms .

Enjoyed our stay here. Good facilities and equipment. No dishwasher and a very small hand basin in the shower room. Small shower too for the space available.

Had a wonderful time and the cottage was fabulous. It was clean, well kept and there was even a lovely welcome hamper awaiting us. The location is great - close to Durham and its castle/cathedral, High Power waterfall and the beamish museum which kept both adults and children entertained. There are also some beautiful walks literally around the corner. All in all, very highly recommended.

Very enjoyable stay
The property was perfect for us. It has two bathrooms, which is great when there are a few of you staying and everything required for a pleasant stay. The kitchen is well stocked with cutlery, crockery and appliances, so if you want to spend evenings in, everything is there. We prefer to travel without a car and the cottage is perfect for that. There are two regular buses giving frequent and fast access to Durham (and train links to everywhere) and the 24 bus, which goes right past the cottage, will even take you to Hartlepool if you want (we used it to visit HMS Trincomalee). The village of Sherburn is very friendly and we visited the two pubs while we were there, we also did some rambling in the local area, including a walk into Durham via the river. Lynne was very approachable and helpful, so all in all a great break in the excellent North East. We would not hesitate to recommend Stone Cottage.

A great base to explore this part of the world! The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed for 4 adults and 2 kids to enjoy spending New Year together. Plenty of space for everyone, and a well-equipped kitchen.Co-op, bakery and playpark in the village all very handy and we discovered a lovely walk towards Dragonville along cycle route 14. Lynne kindly left the Christmas decorations up for us, a high chair & cot, and a welcome pack with a handy mixture of basics (variety pack for the kids and real coffee) and treats. Would definitely stay again.

Great place and great value
This is a lovely 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage in a quiet location. It is really handy for Beamish and Durham and has a couple of great food pubs a five minute drive away. One of the best hosts I have had, very responsive and high quality information. The accommodation is high quality, really thoughtful welcome pack, well equipped and warm. I could highly recommend for anyone visiting the local area.

Absolutely beautiful
Came up from Birmingham to visit family and fed up of the hotel environment so decided to give the rental market a try - won’t be going back to hotels. Beautiful cottage with beautiful facilities. Close by to transport links and easy to get to many local places of beauty.
The welcome pack was a lovely touch when we arrived - cereal biscuits milk to name a few. Plenty of space - there were 5 of us staying and never once did we feel under each other’s feet. Will definitely be back when we come for another visit.

Nice cottage in a good location, suffoekt for a family of 5 including three kids
The property was as described in Homeaway. Overall my family and I liked the property. There was a problem with the boiler as we checked in but the owner was waiting with new heaters and that sorted us out fine. On the last day the owner had to bring in three different companies to check the problem with the boiler and give her quotes. I allowed it (she was kind enough to ask) but didn’t appreciate having to go through that during our stay. Despite that it was a lovely stay and a nice warm home.

Lovely comfortable house 2-3 miles from Durham
Lovely clean house, very spacious, with plenty of seating in lounge. Owner very helpful and approachable, the one downside was only four chairs provided for the kitchen table despite house sleeping six. There were however 2 patio chairs in the hall cupboard which we resorted to. Very handy having 2 bathrooms.

Lovely cottage
Great base for visiting family & taking my children around the north east. Really well equipped, spacious cottage, two bathrooms a definite bonus. Central to everything but also a nice family space, my children loved it and every visiting family member was impressed at what a lovely place we had booked. Definitely visiting again. Couldn't be happier to have found this gem!

Home from home
Old stone cottage is a delightful extremely clean and well maintained three bedroomed cottage set just outside of Durham.
It is ideally situated should you want to go to Durham,Newcastle, hadrians wall or indeed to just stay in and relax.it is close to the A1 and wasn't difficult to find and there is also a regular bus service into Durham ( we caught the into Durham which took about 15 mins and then caught a train into Newcastle )
The cottage really exceeded our expectations the kitchen was well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short stay, both bathrooms were impeccably clean with a fantastic walk in shower in one of them.all three bedrooms were clean with good quality bedding and towels and we all agreed our beds were very comfortable.the living room had two large leather sofas freeview tv and free wifi.
The village itself was a short stroll and had a co/op a bakery and a pub to name a few.
Lynne the owner left a file with a comprehensive guide to the area and beyond, there are lots of walks in and around Sherburn then you have the beautiful architectural cathedral city of Durham with its hidden cobbled streets with fantastic tea rooms and restaurants.the amazing beamish museum is only twenty minutes away and is well worth a visit, then about an hour away is hadrians wall with its many visitor attractions not to forget fantastic walks with fabulous views of Northumberland.my personal favourite part of the north east has to be its coastline and if you get the chance to drive up the coastal route to bamburgh it will take your breath away it's absolutely stunning.
We all enjoyed our stay and will be back again real soon as it's in a prime location and a real home from home.

Pretty cottage close to Durham
We enjoyed our 3 days in this pretty, cleanly and well-equiped cottage.
From the close-by field for dog walks, you can already see Durham.
Don't miss the Housesteads Roman Fort and the Hadrian's Wall (one hour) and the Beamish Museum (20 min).
