About this bed and breakfast
In a pinch ... This 1 bedroom apartment is primarily used by friends and guests staying in the house next door. However, we can occasionally host VRBO guests and home-exchangers for short stays.
There is a flight of stairs on the exterior of the building to get to the apartment.
The living room is small, kitchen smaller, bathroom has a low ceiling over the bathtub, and the bedroom is bigger than the rest of the apartment. It is not luxurious - but it is super-fun to watch the deer roam around from up-above. The windows are new and the place is warmed and cooled by a mini-split. It is a comfortable space.
All outdoor footwear must be left at the door. The kitchen has the basics; not fancy. Laundry facilities are on the first floor below the apartment and require a key.
This neighborhood is Sequoia Park and is the safest area Eureka has to offer.
Emergency Supplies
We are prepared to keep you safe and warm in case of a power outage. Yup, sometimes it happens. BUT - At the house is a power station to keep the internet on, to charge your personal communication devices, to keep you warm with an electric blanket, and to light up the area at the flick of a switch. No fumbling for matches and candles!
If necessary, we will bring to you a battery powered refrigerator and extra portable power stations to run extra lights and heat if necessary.
The brand new Redwood Sky Walk at the Sequoia Park Zoo is a self-guided interpretive experience designed to educate, inspire, and delight. Having a loop 1/4 miles long, it is the longest canopy walk in the western USA. The ADA accessible experience, takes visitors of all ages up and around the ancient trees which make up the rare and historic old growth and second growth Sequoia Park redwood grove.
Explore the history, ecology, and grandeur of the world's tallest trees from a new perspective. The Redwood Sky Walk offers an owl's eye view — reaching 100 feet above the forest floor — but, believe it or not, that is only about one-third of the way up these magnificent giant trees. This new attraction
is family-friendly and has interpretive signage throughout. Plan your visit and learn more at redwoodskywalk(dot)com
Transportation via public Humboldt Transit buses is easily accessible. Most busses have wi-fi onboard. There are a few local taxis and a shuttle to/from the Arcata/Eureka airport. Enterprise and Hertz have rental offices downtown. Walking in Eureka is easy, and there is at least one bicycle for you to use.

I booked this location for a friend who was coming in from out of state. Perfect for one or two people, this quiet location is close to amenities, easy to find and well equipped for any length of stay. I will be booking again for anyone who comes to visit me!

Cute little attic apartment. Funky slanted roof and low low bathtub ceiling. Luckily, we were there for one night and didn’t need to shower. Otherwise, very nice!!

Enjoyed our stay in Eureka very much! Host was great about informing us about local happenings and places to visit. The unit was comfortable and had everything we needed to make for a pleasant stay.

Once you got inside it was quaint and delightful. The pathway had motion sensitive lights which was nice. The stairs getting up to the loft apartment were not in good condition as the boards on a couple of steps and the railing were loose. Taking a shower standing up was not possible and the tub was very slippery with no safety measures in place. Because of this, my traveling partner booked a hotel and stayed there instead. The host was very quick to respond to questions and check in and out was very easy. Was located in a great place within a couple blocks of the zoo and Sequoia Park. Would stay there again if I were ever to revisit Eureka.

It’s a small unit that’s very quiet. However the bathroom is only a tub. The angled roof a walls don’t accommodate stand up shower unless you are only 4’ 10”. The listing doesn’t mention this. We had to shower at my daughter’s house near by. If bathing isn’t a big deal then go for it. Also the stairs going up to the unit are steep and the rail is not secure.

Pictures and description were totally accurate. It was perfect and very comfortable. Just right for our needs. Very quiet and we slept like babies! Communication was quick and very easy to work with the host. We will definitely stay here again.

It was nice and quiet, and liked the location

This place was very cozy and self sufficient to our needs. We did enjoy the redwood canopy walk at the nearby zoo very much. There were goats at two of the neighboring properties we could see out the window. We saw some reviews complaining about the short shower, but the showerhead was removable. Lots of reading nook-type furnishings with plenty of natural light.

I loved staying at this little second story pied a terre, hidden from the street in a quiet setting. It was a charming attic apartment, spotless and quiet. I loved it. . It is not fancy and not for tall people but it is lovely for those who love a quaint quiet attic apartment.

For my needs, this location/accommodation could not have been better. The unit is mold free, clean, arranged for comfortable living and quiet. If you are not a quiet person, do not stay here. This apartment is in a residential neighborhood in the back of a house. The noise you make - car stereo, talking on a cell phone, etc... - can't be accommodated in this spot.
Because it is an above garage apartment, the ceilings are sloped. If you are tall, this might be a problem. Also, the bed won't accommodate a tall person.
The guest information and hospitality booklet was exceptional helpful and informative. Communication with the host, by text, was timely and clear. The only problem I had with this reservation was a problem with VRBO.

Property was fine, but owner wanted to charge me an extra $200.00 because I had a friend in for about an hour.

This is a wonderful place to stay and I would stay here again. It has a relaxed, comfortable, neighborhood feel which is so much nicer than staying in a corporate hotel room. I saw a deer in the yard this morning, hearing the kids at the school across the street is nice, and the very short walk to the old growth forest behind the Sequoia Park Zoo has been fabulous. I kneeled to take showers, which was completely fine with me and worth it to stay in this spacious apartment in this lovely neighborhood.

Please do not subject yourself to this property or the property manager.
Let's start with the listing:
- while there is a photo of the "shower" it does not adequately explain that this is a tub only. There is not a true shower unless you are under four feet tall - so if you're a little person this particular point doesn't apply to you. I'm 5 foot 8 and the "shower" came to my navel and I had to kneel to get the "shower" to my shoulders.
- The stairs to the unit are not only steep but covered in moss and mold, and the banister is shakey. If you are not an athlete or have ever had mobility issues this should be a concern for you. My husband and I are both former athletes but recovering from injuries, and we still almost fell down at least once each.
The check in process:
The property manager did not communicate any arrival information until I reached out at the time of check in, we got in ok but there were some weird excuses for not having provided check in procedures in advance.
Inside:
- The property is short overall, it's the loft space of a converted garage or barn. The ceiling is very low and we each hit our head, me getting out of bed to use the restroom and him walking down the hall.
- in addition to being short it feels very cramped due to the short ceilings
- there is a skylight over the bed that makes the room VERY bright
- the only good point is it was fairly quiet
Check out:
- after completing a long list of checkout cleaning procedures, despite barely staying at the unit beyond sleeping and one morning reheating leftover pizza from dinner with the family we had been visiting, we departed.
- a week later the property manager sent a demand for extra payment because they "didn't know" we were bringing our therapy dog. Not only are dogs listed as being allowed but we both mentioned in writing and marked on the form when making the reservation. Furthermore, the property manager "Holly" acknowledged that we were bringing our dog and apologized for not leaving the dog items out. The text message to us read: "'doggie stuff' was not put out. In the drawer *right* by the front door, there is a couch cover, some towels, and I think an extra door mat. :o) Please do your best. :o)"
- Then the property manager made a claim that we damaged the unit. The property manager has provided no evidence of any damage, and we are still working with VRBO to solve.
The space is not worth the headaches you will encounter from the property manager.

The property is in a very convenient location. It is very clean and the kitchen was well appointed. We spent very little time there but it was comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The only negative aspect is the bathroom. The tub and “shower” were pretty small for my 6’2” husband.

This place is a GEM. Quaint little place in a wonderful location. Within walking distance to the Sequoia Park/Zoo, grocery store and coffee shop. If you want to hang out in Humboldt for a little while, it's hard to find a better value than this place. The host is very welcoming, keeps an open line of communication, and is honest about accommodations. The bath/shower situation is unique, but I loved it! It was like staying at my grandma's house, but without the old people smell - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Stayed for a 3 day weekend. Cozy little spot. I appreciate that you guys had coffee cups! Lol it’s the little things that count. The shower was a surprise to say the least. But if a 5’10” 200lb person can make it work. You’ll be fine. Thank you very much for having me!

A great place to stay
I needed a quiet place in Eureka to stay and work remotely while my mother had surgery. On a previous visit I stayed at a hotel and didn't want to again. The little apartment was comfortable, peaceful and everything that I could have needed. Margo and her daughter were wonderful, responsive and responded to all my stupid questions quickly and patiently. I will stay here on all future visits if they will have me again. Thanks again ladies!

Great stay!
We really enjoyed our time here; the communication, location, and cleanliness of the place were all excellent. Margo and Holly were very pleasant to interact with. Thanks so much!

Great location, upstairs attic apartment
A good place to stay near the Sequoia park Zoo. Note that this is an attic apartment under the eaves with a set of steep outside stairs for access. Mind the stairs when it is wet…which is often the case mornings and evenings in Eureka.
The bed is comfortable and the kitchen sufficient for grabbing a quick breakfast before heading out.
There is one off-street parking spot but plenty of parking on the street in this quiet neighborhood.
Note: no visitors are allowed so plan to meet your friends elsewhere.

Large, comfortable space.
Great space! Would be helpful to have more detailed access information before the day of arrival. GPS didn’t understand the address we were given. Back yard outside rental space was messy. Many bags of garbage and recycling were by main house.

Very comfortable, quiet, and colorful upstairs apt.
Very nice stay here. Quiet, well appointed two room apt has lovely view of a pretty yard. Full kitchen, bath, and comfortable bed. Easy check in and parking.
