The home had amazing ocean views! 7 min walk to the beach or to main restaurants and shops. Our family of six adults found the home spacious enough.

The photos representing this home are not remotely accurate. Those photos must be from a decade ago. I have photos of the trip I experienced, and the house was dirty, dusty, needed a lot of maintenance and there were live bugs crawling on the floors. I contacted host and she was angry that I didn't stay in her house and let her mediate the situation. I had two days to enjoy away from daily stresses and I paid a significant amount of money for a rental that wasn't the rental I had expectations of staying at. Hosts should not be allowed to rent properties that don't receive proper care; it isn't fair to the person renting. I tried reporting to VRBO and they said contact host, and did nothing so I will never use this service again.

This beautiful home on the quiet island was a wonderful balance to relax with quiet off season island life while being walking distance to the ferry and city. The market on the island had everything needed to eat in and the home had everything needed to make us feel right at home. The sun rises were a gorgeous site to see from the decks or from the nearby island point.

What a wonderful place to hang out with friends for a couple of days.

The house was perfect and location was beautiful. We found this property by chance, as we weren't looking to stay on the island originally. We are so glad we did. The walk to the ferry was very convenient, and the walk around the island was stunning. The house was clean, functional and had an amazing view. It couldn't have worked out any better. We look forward to returning again!

Charming house close to the ferry line. Great location to two public access beaches. We didn’t need to rent a golf cart since it’s so close to the ferry. You can rent one per hour to your the island. We didn’t bother bringing a car over - overnight parking was easy on Portland side. We were looking for something different and this was a perfect fit for our brief stay. Kids loved playing board games, exploring the beaches, and of course the ferry rides. Thanks for having us!

We’ve been coming to Peaks Island for 40+ years. We loved having this space for our family. Selkies Rest is asily accessible to the ferry and “downtown,”close to our favorite beach, has beautiful views, tons of windows to let the breeze in and listen to the ocean. It was very easy to get in touch with the owner. We loved our stay with our teenage children.

Laura's home is beautiful, spotless, relaxing and in the perfect location. It is walking distance to the primary sand beach on the island, and less than 5 minutes from picnic point where my daughter spends hours looking for seaglass. We will certainly be back to this gorgeous home.

4 friends and I wanted a low-key weekend getaway. We didn't need 500 things to do, we just wanted to be together without our home obligations.
Peaks Island was the perfect getaway, and Laura made it perfect! There's a good long document that is easy to read, and lays out ALL the expectations. Where to put the trash on checkout. Where to put food you didn't use up, and what's free to use. It feels like a lot of reading but honestly - we knew EXACTLY what to do to make our stay easy for us, and how to utilize what the home had perfectly (for example, there's a warning that some of the crank handles on the window are delicate - so we avoided those and used the many windows that slid up and down).
Laura was VERY responsive to all my questions!
The house is across the street from the beach, and a short walk from the ferry. Anything you want to do on the island, you don't need a car - there were 5 of us total with luggage so we brought 1 car over for the luggage.
We used the kitchen to make coffee and a lasagna for one dinner, and everything worked great. There are *2* dishwashers (half size each) so we filled one up and ran it, and could fill up the other one in the meantime.
We relaxed in the hot tub, played games, took walks, and had a great time.
The worst part is that we didn't have more time - we all agreed that we wanted a longer time to "do nothing"! The house has lots of games and books and large spaces to hang out with your people and just BE with each other.

Our family of 6 stayed here to attend a weekend wedding on Peaks. Very good location for us and comfortable for our mixed group with the younger folks sleeping on the ground floor and the older ( early to bed folks) up on the 3rd floor. Cozy house with lots of windows and decks to enjoy the views.

Attending Family Wedding On Island
I booked the house for some family members to attend our nephew’s wedding.
My husband, myself, two siblings, brother-in-law and sister-in- law.
House is beautiful and clean. Great location- could walk to ferry and restaurants in town.
Wish we had more time to enjoy this wonderful spot but had many wedding events to attend.
Will for sure book this in the future.
Laura offered us a late check out which was most helpful. Laura was great to communicate with- always answered my emails quickly.
You will love this home and all the beautiful views.
Just spectactular!

Perfect relaxing weekend
We had a wonderful time staying at this home. You can hear the waves from the master bedroom balcony and see the stars from bed. The island was fun to explore and the people friendly. It was a short ferry ride to Portland for dinner one night and the other we ate on Island at the Cockeyed Full. It was excellent. The house is as described, well furnished and appointed. I watched a beautiful sunrise over the ocean steps from the front door. We really enjoyed soaking in the hot tub under the stars on chilly nights. We would definitely come again and hope to make it a tradition.

Beautiful home and location
I stayed with friends at Selkies Rest and it was a lovely “get-away”. The views from the rental and it’s location to the downtown and ferry can’t be beat. Although we did bring a car over, it’s not necessary as most things are walkable and when you can’t walk there are options to rent bikes or golf-carts. Laura was wonderful at accommodating an early check-in and late check-out, and was very responsive throughout the stay. Thank you Laura!

My family and I enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home with gorgeous views of the bay. Renting a golf cart for the week was a perfect way to travel around Peaks.

Wedding Weekend
This was my first rental with VRBO and it was an easy experience. The wedding location was on Peaks Island and after realizing everything for the weekend was on the island, I had my mother (in her 70s) and aunts (78 and 86) traveling with me and my sister, so we made the decision that it would be best for us to stay on the island instead of Portland.
The couple directed us to use VRBO to book lodging and Laura’s property was one of two left for this weekend. The reason why I chose it was because of the location. It was literally right in the center of where we needed to go throughout the weekend. Everything was close by and walkable. The farthest walk was the grocery store and it was 10 minutes.
The house was awesome. There was plenty of space for everyone and it was clean and inviting. The main area was on the second floor and bedrooms were on the first and 3rd floors. There was a bathroom on each floor which was nice as well and plenty of extra towels and linens and supplies. The home is so close to the water, you could hear the waves crashing against the beach in the evening and the views were perfect. The back porch looked out to the small backyard that had the perimeter lined with many different lilacs and the smell was incredible. We enjoyed our stay and would rent again.
Lastly, Laura was super responsive to all my messages. She also provided a google doc with a lot of helpful and informative information. She was a great host! Our experience was excellent for our first time to the island.

Peace and Love
What an amazing experience. You start the moment you jump on the quick ferry over to the Peaks Island while enjoying the scenery of Casco Bay. The home is located perfectly. You're in walking distance to so many mini adventures(and a great ice cream place) and the views from the home are absolutely stunning. Great space; and an awesome kitchen to cook, various decks to enjoy the many views, comfortable living room to dance and relax, and cozy bedrooms for a good night sleep. During the day; we rented a golf cart and explored. We enjoyed the various beaches and contributed to the cairins. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else on the Island. Perfect home, location, and host!!
