I moved to Victora and needed a place to stay while finding a house to buy. Unexpectedly, I ended up staying for 6 months. The apartment was very quiet and the kitchen was exceptionally well equipped...with even a salad spinner! I would highly recommend this VRBO apartment. It is located within walking distance of all types of shops, services and attractions. The owners are extremely attentive to detail, and very responsive to requests and questions. Definitely a 5 star experience.

We stayed for the month of April. The unit was as described. It was clean, cozy, well equipped and located in a quiet neighbourhood. We had only two issues and Neil responded very quickly to both of them. Being on the lowest level of the house, there were occasional walking sounds from the unit above, but this should be considered normal for a wood frame building. For those who like walking, the relatively flat streets in the area made for satisfying walks.

This is a lovely place to stay, everything you might need is here. There is a coffee spot about 10 minutes away and a square 15 -20 mins away with a bar, restaurants, and a couple of grocery, convenience stores. A shady leafy street with lots of trees.
Lots of space and although a semi basement apartment, there is good lighting, with lots of windows.
The neighbour's are friendly and the hosts are very helpful and responsive.
Definitely recommend this vrbo.

Victoria Stay
I stayed here while working in town and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Hosts were very accommodating and responsive and the apartment was extremely well stocked and tidy. Would stay here again.

Our one month stay in Victoria
We were very impressed with the cleanliness as soon as we entered the condo. Location is excellent for walking to downtown, and local restaurants and coffee shop. Hosts are fabulous with very quick response to every question. If I had one suggestion, it would be to refurbish the laundry area. Loved our stay!

Location is ideal..It's like a sweet spot which connects easily to water/coast on three sides, walking, golf, pubs and gardens. The weather was a bit mixed, but the flowers were spectacular.

I've been at Fernwood House for one month. The apartment is spacious and well-equipped with anything you may need. I enjoyed the neighbourhood, public transportation are just 1/2 min walking. I would surely come back to Neil.

This place was awesome! Neil and Heidi were so helpful and replied quickly to answer our questions! We moved in with a lot of stuff and the rental had room to store it all! Great visit:)! Kitchen had all the amenities we needed and the neighbourhood was amazing!

Cement painted white with very hot base board heaters to try keep it warm.
I had a small plastic bad from the Gap touch the heater - small part 2in x4 in melted onto the baseboard - got charged for a bran new heater on my credit card. In stead of .50 cents of white paint. Not impressed!

Good location for sightseeing
Property is a nice size for 2. Quiet location and friendly neighbors in the rest of the building. Suite is on the north facing side so a bit dreary on cloudy days.
Could use a nice narrow upright dresser in the bedroom. The one described as a small one is no more really than just a utility hall type cabinet. Very tiny. Vacuum cleaner was heavy and awkward.
Kitchen needed more linens, cutlery and cooking utensils.
Overall value for the price.

Relaxing and Comforting
The overall property is really comforting and relaxing. the Neighborhood is friendly and peaceful.
I took walks to the organic grocery store and cafe about 6 blocks down. Parking for this unit was great (back yard) as street parking can be challenging in this part of town. also a Taxi ride down town is only about $10.
I was easily able to complete my laundry when others weren't using it, everyone is fairly peaceful. For me, the only time it may have been loud was there was maybe a family staying above me and they banged around and might have had a basket ball at one point but other than that, everyone is
pretty respectful and I doubt you'll hear much else and I'm pretty sound sensitive.
Neil is really friendly and nice to work with, my the table needed a quick repair and he came by and fixed it in less than 5 minutes. He was also kind enough to let both my parents stay for a few days as they helped me adjust to Victoria.
All utilities and appliances work great, the internet cut in and out at times but I never had a problem with work or recreation. The addition of Netflix and various entertainment options saved me a few times on rainy days!
Also Willow beach and Gonzalas beach are about 10 and 12 minutes away by car.

Fernwood house is excellent
Fernwood house is cozy, clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. We were very happy using it as our base to visit family nearby. The kitchen is well equipped, and there are nice cafes and a park close at hand. I would strongly recommend Fernwood House. We hope to return.

Clean, cozy & convenient!
My husband and I wintered here from Jan 1 - Mar 30, 2019. The suite was nicely renovated, and was clean and well-equipped with pretty much everything we needed. The other residents were quiet and respectful - we had no noise/party issues at all. As noted in a previous review, we could hear footsteps from the suite above during the day/early evening (not at night), but they were not obtrusive. The bed and linens were very comfortable. We had a few instances of sporadic internet connection/speed issues, but they did not last long and were infrequent.
The neighbourhood was lovely - a nice combination of older homes with families and converted rental properties. The neighbours next door were also quiet and the location was very convenient. We love to walk, so we walked pretty much anywhere we wanted to go (bus service was about a 2 minute walk as well, although we did not use it) - we shopped at Thrifty's Hillside or Fairway Quadra (15-20 mins) almost every day; the Fernwood Inn and Fernwood Pizza were favourites (10 mins); Koffi and the Little Local General Store (8 mins) were also great nearby places. There were also a couple of convenience stores within an 8-10 min walk. Downtown Victoria and Oak Bay were about 30 mins and Cook Street Village was about 40. We did rent a car for about 10 days twice to explore other parts of the city and Island, so we did any "big" grocery runs at that point.
Checking in and out was very easy and Neil and Heidi were really helpful and easy to work with. We recommend Neil and Heidi's clean, cozy and convenient suite in this lovely established neighbourhood of Victoria as an excellent value vacation rental property.

This place is in a lovely neighbourhood. Its spotless and is recently renovated. Neil is very responsive and after a 3 week stay, I would happily return. Thank-You so much!

A Delight
Neil and Heidi put a lot of thought into furnishing the unit to make a guest’s stay a delightful one. From the kitchen furnishings and supplies, the laundry supplies, and the closet storage down to the clothes hangers provided, I really appreciate what you both have done to make my stay a delightful one. The unit is well prepared for guests.
The location, let me list the pluses. One plus - close to downtown in a nice residential area. Two pluses - there are two local convenience stores right around the corner and across from each other, about a 5-10 minute walk from the unit. Three pluses - the local coffee shop, next to one of the stores, is where everyone gathers for company and coffee. Four pluses - there is a pizza place and a restaurant down the street, about a 15 minute walk from the unit. Five pluses - the bus stop to downtown is just steps away from the unit.
Again, thank you Neil and Heidi for a most delightful stay. I hope to stay again in the future!

The best July vacations.
This was our first VRBO and I think it must be one of the best. It was clean and nicely decorated . There were a seating options outside to enjoy the pleasant July weather. We enjoyed our walk to the beach . It was a wonderful place to stay. It was just my husband and I this time, but I will recommend this place to my friends and family.

We liked the unit and the area, overall we had a great stay. We didn't however like the cold water- pay as you go laundry, or the noise transfer from the upper unit. It alone would keep us from returning.

Spotless, Convenient and Comfortable
My wife and I stayed in Victoria while visiting family and really enjoyed our stay at Fernwood House. We loved how the place is presented and decorated and felt at home. We had all the comforts we needed from the comfy bed to the convenient location to shops and a great cup of coffee, we're looking forward to our next stay. Thanks again for the great accommodation!

Excellent Accommodation.
I had a wonderful experience staying at the Fernwood House. The accommodation was clean and very cozy/comfortable. The suite was freshly renovated, including a nice kitchen and bathroom. The location was close to my work (~10 minute walk to Royal Jubilee Hospital), and additional amenities and restaurants are nearby as well. Easy to get to Douglas St to take the ferry. Buses are within walking distance to reach downtown. I appreciated Neil's hospitality and organization. I would easily recommend this suite to anyone seeking a comfortable place to stay in a convenient part of Victoria.

Lovely, clean and comfy suite
We had friends visiting us in Victoria but didn’t have enough space in our home. We booked them into Suite 1 at Fernwood House just after Neil and Heidi completed renovating the suite. All the finishes and furnishings are new and very comfortable. The fireplace is fantastic and the kitchen is really well equipped and with all new appliances and accessories. We wouldn’t hesitate to have friends stay here again.
