My travel group of 7 went for a 70th birthday celebration. Great time, great space and great area.

A great experience for our group. Highly recommended.

Loved my stay at Casa Lumenez! The villa is breathtaking and the views cannot be beat. I especially loved the beautiful landscaping and all the wildlife that abounded. Adorable howler monkeys, iguanas, butterflies, and all sorts of tropical birds. The rooms were also very nice - comfortable, luxurious, great natural light. Another highlight was having the local masseuse, Sarah, come to the house and do massages. She’s incredible and it was so convenient!

We are literally speechless. The second you enter the property youre in paradise. Within a minute of arriving and as the friendly staff member Yonnie unloaded our bags he points to a tree where we saw a family of the cutest monkeys passing through, he points again and lo and behold the smallest hummingbird I've ever seen—and then a pair of macaws swooped onto a nearby tree (FYI they're the size of wild turkeys it's cray). THE VIEW is literally the most amazing thing. The second you walk out on to the terrace it takes a second for it all to sink in, the pool and the ocean and the trees and the sound of the waves, it's so beautiful. We had such an incredible stay and the hosts were so nice to arrange for us to connect with the private chef who came and prepared an amazing five course dinner for us one night.
WILL DEFINITELY COME AGAIN!!!!!

We just got back from our family vacation at Casa Lumenez. Overall, our stay was great. The villa is a short few min from Samara beach and town, which includes restaurants, bars, shops, grocery stores, etc. Very convenient location! Its situated on a beautiful and lush property with endless vegetation. The views of the ocean are breath taking. We saw lots of wildlife, such as parrots flying back and forth above us every day. The villa itself had an indoor/outdoor vibe and only the bedrooms, washrooms and kitchen are enclosed. All common spaces to eat and hang out are outside, which is very unique. The villa is definitely dated, but kept in good condition with some TLC needed in areas of wear and tear. We didn’t mind, it was warm and charming, but if you’re one of those people that expects perfection then certain things will annoy you. I would say the only negative for us were the beds. The mattresses seem cheap/old and are hard like a rock - I don’t think a single person woke up without an achy back throughout the trip. For the price we paid we were expecting to sleep on comfortable beds. Our contact at the property, Johnny, was wonderful and very responsive, and his sister who was the housekeeper was also very lovely. They came often to change towels, clean the pool, manage the overall property, and they were quiet as mice and we barely noticed them. The property manager Maria was also great to deal with - extremely responsive, provided lots of useful information, and made the overall process easy peasy. We rented two cars and we’re sure glad we did! We were traveling with kids and the hike to and from the beach and town would have been challenging since the villa is at the top of a hill. Overall we had a great time at Casa Lumenez and we’re very sad to leave Samara.

Glorious Stay in Paradise
To call Casa Lumenez breathtaking seems trite and frankly insufficiient. The moment you pass through the gates and enter the lush grounds, and then pass through the incredible antique spanish doors with of the mission style grand house, you are greeted with the most incredible sight of the pool with the ocean behind, and the smells and sounds of nature, flowers, birds. Incredible.
The staff was so professional. The whole group of us was out and about during the day and we'd turn and look and everything would be clean and neat as though by magic, Truly speechless at how incredible and professional everyone is, And so gracious.
The house is perfection. We never felt anything but pure comfort and even used the blankets at night--imagine that! It is so well ventilated that there is no humidity and no residual heat sticking about. My god, I want the bathrooms to take back home with me. And the mattresses. If I could've packed the whole house and moved it back with me I would've.
The pool is gorgeous. Spent a great afternoon being massaged by the jets (when I wasn't getting a massage a few feet away by the massage therapist who provides services to Casa Lumenez guests on call by appointment).
We even had families of monkey traverse the edge of the property on several early evenings and beautiful iguanas scurrying at nearby trees...and there were more birds of every color and song that we could keep track of.
And...the private chef. Our group loves going to the best restaurants and we've been to most between DC and New York and many of us agreed that Casa Lumenez's chef prepared a dinner that was the best we'd ever had bar none. Perhaps a fluke, but then he did it again on another night and we knew he was the real deal. Definitely worth doing the cocktail pairing. An amazing marriage of local and foreign fusions and flavors.
To the hosts: this is such a labor of love and joy that you have created and we are so grateful and so very appreciative that we had the immense pleasure and good fortune to be able to experience it. Casa Lumenez is a tropical gem that has absolutely no equal anywhere we've travelled. So much so that our rule that we don't repeat destinations was unanimously laughed away on our last night at Casa Lumenez as we watched shooting stars in the night sky and naturally resolved to return soon and for longer. Come and experience this magical paradise for yourselves--just don't take our dates!

Perfect Costa Rican Getaway!
This house is the perfect spot for a family or friends getaway.
The view is stunning - a large pool and deck area with a view of the ocean and town of Samara. The beach and downtown are a short walk or even shorter drive!
The local amenities are also incredibly impressive for such a small town! Samara Adventures provides access to activity trips locally and in surrounding towns. The local chef will come and prepare absolutely delightful dinners. There is also a local masseuse who will come do at-home messages. The restaurants in the town are also very good.
The house itself is stunning and provides all the amenities you need for a relaxing and successful vacation: large kitchen with full-size appliances, bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and large living area with comfortable couches and dining table large enough for a big group.
I will definitely be going back and already looking forward to floating in the pool and the chef dinner!

Perfect Group Getaway
Breathtaking views. Gorgeous property, in fact, the photos don’t do it justice. Enjoyed all the outdoor spaces throughout the villa. Hired private chef Estiven per property manager’s recommendation. His food was a highlight of our stay. 10 min walk to beach/town and back up the hill to the house. Recommend renting a car as taxis are scarce. Not ideal for young kids, but I would rebook this listing in a heartbeat. Pura Vida for real!

excellent, relaxing retreat for large groups
We were a group of two families with young adult children and Casa Lumenez was an ideal spot for us. The house is nicely appointed with everything you need (and a very well-stocked kitchen), but not fussy. The indoor space is only an entrance and a kitchen. You walk out to a very large covered (and with multiple ceiling fans) living area with a large dining room table and multiple seating areas. From there you look over a gorgeous swimming pool to the ocean. The view is stunning. The bedrooms all have separate entrances and are accessed from the veranda. There are also two bedrooms in a guest house that are available if you ask. The house is a short drive (less than 5 minutes) into town and you can drive or walk to the beach--closest access is about a 7 minute walk (2 minute drive) and 20 minute walk into town. Maria was very responsive and easy to work with. She even helped us find a local restaurant that would cook the fish we caught! Cleaners came every other day which was perfect for us. We also used their recommended chef, Estivan, who made delicious dinners and was eager to please. Overall, a great spot for gathering with a large group.

Lovely Lumenez!
Eleven of us journeyed to Samara for the Christmas holiday, hoping for a place to relax and enjoy family time after an unsettling year of covid. Our expectations were met in spades!
The house itself is beautifully laid out. Bedrooms and kitchen line the well-sized pool, w/ all-outdoor (roofed) living space in between. Views, through gardens, above pool, overlooking the ocean and ever-changing horizon are spectacular - changing w/ the movement and colors of sun, clouds, moon, stars. Waking up, seeing the light, hearing birds and howler monkeys, feeling the air, was joyous! (We also rented the second house, which was perfect for two toddlers and a nanny.)
Maria suggested Estiven Arias, a local chef, who delighted us with 3 dinners and 2 breakfasts. We asked for Costa Rican fare and he did not disappoint! (He also runs a lunch take-out place with tacos, burgers, etc.) Estiven was professional, talented and put his heart into each event. For Christmas, he and his helpers brought their own lights and Santa decorations, adding much to the festivity of the evening!
We enjoyed cooking in a few nights and trying some of the local restaurant fare - Gusto on the Beach and La Dolce Vida -- wonderful! (One thing, for planning - there is no oven but we preferred grilling anyway. Stove top and toaster oven are provided.)
Johnny and his sister, Aryeri, are very helpful and keep the place clean and orderly...and Maria is very responsive to emails.
We found that a rental car was helpful (only 3 days since we had not pre-ordered). The beach is close but we had two toddlers-steep uphill was a challenge. Town is only a 15-20 minute walk, but with lots of groceries, we preferred wheels. Cabs were difficult to get - perhaps because of the week. Golf carts could have been a good solution. However, we made it all work! (Super China best big grocery; don't miss Casa Maxou gelato in "food court" across from Gusto; fresh fish -neighborhood at bottom of hill.)
We enjoyed a few fun pre-planned activities. With Samara Adventures - a sunset cruise, which ended up including an hour+ with the first whales of the season - and the Samara Trails hike. We loved True Blue Vue for massages. All were hits...as was hanging out at Gusto and La Dolce during days on the beach (with lounges, cushions, food and drink - perfect!). Surf boards are easily rented-$10 and the surf is perfect for beginners.
We loved our time at Casa Lumenez and highly recommend it !!

Fantastic stay
We were 4 couples staying at Casa Luminez for a week. This was our second trip to Costa Rica (last time in Playa Negra) and we really loved Samara.
The house was as described with a lot of outdoor living space. The one thing we didn’t realize is that there is no indoor living space. Only the kitchen (without seating) and the bedrooms are indoor living, everything else is outside (but covered). It turned out to be fantastic as we spent all our time sitting outside. The breeze from the ocean up on the hill kept things cool in the covered areas. It was nice to lounge around in the shade during the day and in the evening. The bedrooms don’t have AC but I never felt it was too hot to sleep. They have a lot of ceiling fans throughout.
The pool and pool deck were very large and always kept clean by Johnny who came every day. We also had housekeeping come around every few days which was nice.
The house is up on a hill and about a 10 minute walk down to the beach then another 10 minutes down the beach to the town. It’s about a $5 cab ride to town from the house, although only about 3 cabs in town so not always easy to find one.
As mentioned in the ad, there is no TV or oven in the house but it was not missed at all. There is a toaster oven if you wanted to bake something and we ended up watching the Super Bowl in town.
Samara is a wonderful town with a lot of excellent restaurants. So much to choose from for such a little place.
So, our party had a great time and Maria was very responsive for any needs we had throughout the stay. We would stay again for sure.

Absolutely Wonderful!
WOW!! This place was incredible! We came with 12 adults and 2 children and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Samara. It is perfectly located just right up the street from the town but you honestly never have to leave! The pool was wonderful, the view was amazing, the decor and overall vibe of the place made you feel like you are in heaven. We saw so many types of birds, howler monkeys, iguanas.. you name it! I would highly recommend this place for large groups or if you just want to feel like royalty. We will be back!!

Beautiful slice of paradise in Samara
We thoroughly loved our stay at this property. Maria provided wonderful advice to ensure we had a fabulous stay. Johnny was waiting for us at the house as planned and did a very thorough job of showing us around the property. He was also there each morning to clean the pool and patio area. We are so thankful we reached out to Roberto (per Maria’s advice) to cook us a fabulous Italian influenced seafood meal. It was absolutely divine and wowed all of us! We would definitely love to stay at this place again the next time we’re in Samara!

Beautiful home with all the amenities
This was our second stay at this beautiful home in Samara. The owners provided us with information on the home and shops/services in town. We had a wonderful time with our family +2. Plunging into the huge, sparkling pool was refreshing after a day at the beach or ziplining through the rainforest. We prepared most meals in the house kitchen, but it should be noted that there is no oven. We did grill some delicious fish we caught on the outdoor propane grill. The property was kept clean daily. We felt very secure within the gated property. On a side note, the property views provided a wonderful backdrop for photos of our son proposing to his girlfriend!! It was an awesome trip!

Amazing Property and Charming Town!
The drive from the Liberia airport did not take long. The moment we arrived at Casa Lumenez we had one thought: this property is magnificent! The ocean views are spectacular, the large pool and terraces are great, the gardens are beautiful, the rooms are spacious, clean and tastefully furnished. This was a great place to embrace nature, relax, swim, read, and enjoy the many nearby activities.
The town of Samara is charming, the people are friendly, and there are many fine small restaurants, fruit vendors and stores.
The advance assistance during reservations and in the weeks before arrival was very helpful. The property's staff was very courteous and helped make our stay more enjoyable.

Beautiful property and most enjoyable stay...
Thank you for facilitating our stay and making it so enjoyable!
From the moment of arrival the property looked even better than in the photos! The beautiful views of the ocean, the well kept gardens with so many tropical plants, wide open living spaces with high ceilings, tasteful furniture and beautiful art, large pool with crystal water, combined with attentive and very friendly staff, wonderful dinners at the property and in Samara, all made the stay a very enjoyable experience.

It was a fabulous return vacation!
Really happy with the return trip to Casa Lumenez!
Once again, greatly enjoyed the property's courteous staff, lush tropical setting, well appointed rooms, open airy terraces, large blue pool, and the always changing amazing views!
Every morning, lounging by the pool, we caught sightings of the birds in the trees and heard their morning songs, which we whistled happily along with. And a rare sighting of a bird doing a fly by on the pool to cool off. Also an iguana displayed its beautiful colors in one of the trees, which was a unique sighting.
In addition to daily lounging by the pool we also enjoyed many of the activities that Samara offers: morning runs in the jungle, horseback riding near the beach, crocodile and monkeys sighting, volleyball games, sunset music and bonfire at Gusto's, and stargazing at night.
It was a fabulous return vacation!

A Special Place
Casa Lumenez will always hold a special place in our hearts! Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the property staff for a full tour of the property, and we were surprised with a thoughtful welcome gift. The villa is set up perfectly for a large group - the open kitchen and outdoor living spaces are comfortable, carefully decorated, and have amazing views! Each room is spacious, with its own bathroom, and keyed access. We loved spending the afternoons relaxing by and in the pool. The property staff respects your privacy but are quickly available if you have a need!
We were fortunate enough to celebrate our wedding at Casa Lumenez and it the most perfect space! The gardens and grounds in general are bright and colorful, making a picture perfect backdrop for our vows. Our guests were truly awed by the views! We are SO appreciative to the owner and the property staff for their flexibility with our plans! We will be back!

Beautiful Luxurious Living at Casa Lumenez
What a great property! Casa Lumenez is as beautiful, private, secure, well appointed and well-kept as it appears in the pictures and others describe. Our family of 7 (including 2 grandparents and 3 kids) had more than enough room using 5 of the 6 bedrooms, and we spent lots of time talking, reading and playing games in the lounge area, and even more time lounging by and swimming in the well-kept pool. We arrived in the evening on our first day, so the next morning was a treat to see the view that makes the location of this place so special.
We planned many activities in and around Samara and its beaches -- Ziplining (5 minute walk away!) Snorkeling, ATV tour, Sunset Cruise, Ultralight Flight, Massages at the Beach, and we visited the beautiful beaches, and had the time of our lives. We had the chef that Maria recommended, Roberto, cook a delicious Italian dinner at our property one night. And every day we always looked forward to spending time back at the villa for afternoon swimming, meals and happy hours.
Maria made the process of preparing for our trip so smooth -- she was quick to answer questions, made many great recommendations, and was a pleasure to talk to. Johnny the groundskeeper was diligent and easily overcame language barriers to help us at every turn.
Though others have mentioned walking to the beaches and into town, I do recommend a car for your stay at Casa Lumenez even for the 1.4 miles we regularly took into town for dinner, drin. Though it's a nice hike for many of us, the pathway shares a road with many vehicles and it was so much less stressful. We hired a private van from Samara Adventure Company for our airport transfer to and from Samara, and rented from Alamo (Maria's suggestion) in the town.
So close to the equator, it is a warm climate day and night -- and it was even unseasonably warm while we were there over New Year's. While it took a good 24 hours for our Midwestern blood to thin and get used to the heat (70s at night), we got used to the many ceiling fans to keep us cool.
If you have a medium to large group, I highly recommend Casa Lumenez as a great base of operation near the coast. Thanks for a great stay!

Fantastic Lumenez .
We Simply had a memorable time at Casa Lumenez . It will stay in our mind for quite a long time. As a matter of fact, we are already figuring out our March 2019 schedule for our trip back to Casa Lumenez. The views are never boring, enchanting to the point that We were eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at almost every corner of the property for most of our stay. Having a drink by the pool at night and hearing the ocean waves soothed us all . The family was so happy and relaxed every night. Some nights were extra special by swimming under the moonlight. We loved the privacy and seclusion of the location and yet was so accessible to the town and the beaches, so you don't even need a car while staying there. Casa Lumenez has earned 1st place in our top 3 frequently traveled vacation spots. I thank the architect behind the design and all the thoughts that, he or she, put into making Casa Lumenez accessible to us.
Let’s not forget the awesome support we got from the staff , another big thank you goes to them.

Simply memorable, it will stay in my mind for quite a long time. As a matter of fact, I'm already figuring out my schedule for my next trip to Casa Luminez. We really enjoyed our stay and Samara is a perfect place to relax and enjoy life.
Casa lumenez was spacious and comfortable enough for all 10 of us. The home and grounds are very well taken care of. The pool and view were the highlight. We had the chef come twice and Roberto served us a fantastic meal. (No oven or microwave). The booking process went smoothly and Maria was very informative. Johnny the caretaker did a wonderful job and was very helpful. This is a great place for families or all adults. Definitely a place to come back to.

Beautiful house with gorgeous outside space
We loved it! We had two families traveling and it was perfect for us. It is just so well designed for a vacation home and has everything you need to enjoy yourself. Every room has its own bathroom and there is even one you can use when you are in the pool so you don’t have to go into the rooms.
Maria(owner) was very helpful before arrival and Johnny who took care of the place was very sweet and really helpful.
I had thought there was AC but there wasn’t but you really don’t need it. Up on the hill, with the breeze and the fans it was very pleasant at night- even cool.
I would highly recommend this place and might even go back next year!

Incredible!
We celebrated our friend's birthday with a 6 night stay at Casa Lumenez and it exceeded all of our expectations. This was our first visit to Costa Rica and Maria and staff made us feel right at home. The villa felt very secure and private, is tastefully decorated, and is surrounded by lush gardens and plenty of wildlife. Aside from the the beautiful ocean view from the pool deck, we managed to spot howler monkeys, lizards, countless species of birds and other interesting insects (thankfully mosquitos and other pests weren't an issue at all).
The town of Samara is a short drive away and worth checking out as well. Maria provided many recommendations for restaurants and other local amenities and we were very satisfied with the ones that we visited.
Maria also suggested we hire a local chef to prepare a private birthday meal at the villa and he and his staff did not disappoint. The food was delicious and he was an excellent host.
If we ever find ourselves in Samara again with a large group, this is the first place we will look to book!

Really enjoyed our vacation
When my family and I first walked in the house and saw the view of the Pacific Ocean out the back of the house, we knew we would enjoy the vacation. The pool was fantastic, well cared for every morning by the staff and the view from the pool of the ocean was a real plus. The staff kept the house clean and were helpful with questions we had. The staff spoke only Spanish but with what little Spanish we spoke we were still able to communicate just fine. The house is roomy, we rented both the cottage and the full house and that gave us room for the 11 people we had from our extended family that enjoyed the vacation. We would recommend this house for anyone looking for peace and quite at the house but close enough to the town and beach to enjoy surfing, fishing, diving, and other sports.

Phenomenal time at Casa Lumenez, Costa Rica
There are few vacations that can compare to the wonderful time we had at Casa Lumenez in Costa Rica. The house is situated on a picturesque hill overlooking the ocean. The house is richly appointed with all conveniences provided. The staff is attentive but never stuffy. Couldn't ask for nicer people. We spent a lot of time in the gorgeous pool, also overlooking the ocean. Eating and lounging in the open living area, after exploring Samara and surrounds, was part of the memories we will never forget. At night, the sky illuminates more stars than we ever thought existed and the brightest moon we had ever seen. We can't wait to go back next year!

Escape to Casa Lumenez!
We enjoyed our first stay at Casa Lumenez, and the quaint town of Samara, that we decided to return for a second time with friends! The gated villa is situated on a hilltop offering a breathtaking view of the natural beauty of Costa Rica.
The Villa is beautifully decorated and the layout allows the guests to congregate in the “Great Room,” or gather on the veranda by the pool, offering relaxing outdoor living while enjoying the tropical gardens, and the ocean view.
The guest rooms offer individual access from the veranda and do not lack in amenities or comfort!
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
If you choose to remain at the villa for dining, the kitchen is fully equipped with all of the “bells and whistles!”
We went into Samara on several occasions to take advantage of their excellent restaurants and fantastic beach bar.
We will definitely make a return trip to Casa Lumenez to make new memories and explore more of this beautiful country.
