The property was great, very clean and roomy. We are three seniors and two were first time to Yellowstone. Great little kitchen with a roomy fridge and a huge grill out back on a nice deck. Water was hot and shower was great. Used the fireplace on two nights and the little furnace in the family room was impressive. It got down in the 30’s two nights and snowed in the mountains but we were warm and cozy. There are electric heaters in every room but we didn’t need to use any of them. House is well insulated.
The host was warm and welcoming and answered all questions we has regarding check-in/out processes and those regarding the local establishments. Silver Gate and Cooke City were great little towns to visit.
Finally, the reason for staying here was location to Yellowstone and the Lamar Valley. We saw elk, grizzly bear, black bear, moose two days in a row, pronghorns, mountain goats, bald eagles, and bison. My wife saw a white wolf and there was a pack of 14 wolves operating in the Slough Creek campground valley that we visited three days in a row. This was all within 1 hour of this cabin. Would definitely stay here if location to wildlife is high on your list.

Place was comfortable for a family of five. The house was well stocked with everything you need to cook and do laundry. Marcia welcomed us on our late evening arrival.

We had the very best time at Marcia’s place. It was immaculate and had absolutely everything that you would need for cooking, showering. She even had the fire all ready to be lite. We didn’t end up needing it but it was ready to go! The outdoor space was fabulous. The view from the backyard can’t be beat. We watched the hummingbirds from the dining room table.
Marcia is the kindest sweetest lady and goes out of her way to make sure you have a wonderful time.

Great place to stay and be in the Lamar Valley in 10 minutes.
Look this is not the 4 Seasons but we didn’t expect that. Steep stairs to the bedrooms and one is like a loft bedroom bc it isn’t walled off. But it was just what we needed with our kids. Marcia is very nice and accommodating. Great place to rest after a hard day in the park. Bring your own grociers cause there is nothint close to get much of anything. Grill was used and we cooked a meal every evening. Nice having 1.5 bathrooms too. And she had Bear Spray for us to borrow.
Ice cream place in “town” is great.

Very comfortable, had everything I needed and more to enjoy my stay. Bed was comfortable, nice big fridge if I wanted to do cooking, roomy and great access to both the park and any needs in the small town. Marcia was a fabulous host, showed me everything I would need to know, and helped build a fire in the wood burning stove when the power went out due to weather. Outage didn't last long, but had everything I needed to get through it. Marcia is a fabulous host, as sweet as can be! Would definitely stay again!

If you want to experience the wildlife in and around Yellowstone National Park this is the place to stay! My family and I loved staying so near the NE entrance and bringing able to go through Lamar Valley early in the morning and late in the evenings. The home has everything you could need in a vacation rental plus more!
5.0 / 5.0
It was a blessing that we found this great vacation rental! The home was exactly what we were looking for. It was just down the road from the northeast entrance to YNP and had everything needed to make us feel right at home.
The weather was a little cold for us with lows in the 30’s (we had come from 100+ degree temperatures in Texas), but the house was well insulated with a great heating system and toasty fireplace. The large comfortable sectional sofa was a favorite spot for relaxing after a long day of hiking. The internet never failed us and it gave us the opportunity to catch up on work emails and binge-watch shows. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook big breakfasts and the back deck had a grill to cookout in the evenings. Sitting on the deck was a treat because we were able to relax listening to the little brook that ran behind the house, play cards at the patio table, and watch for mountain goats on the nearby mountain.
Marsha was an amazing host! She had a great personality and provided everything we needed to have a pleasant stay. She even took time to come by and greet us when we arrived offering suggestions on things we didn’t want to miss.
We left with beautiful memories of an awesome vacation spent at the perfect vrbo. We’ll be looking to stay here again on future trips to Yellowstone.

Marcia's home in Silver Gate was absolutely the best. The photos do not do it justice. It is quite spacious with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the beautiful views out every window. Her home has everything anyone could need with a kitchen stocked better than my own. New sofa and chairs that are perfect for relaxing and reading. The beds are super comfortable (new mattresses I believe Marcia said). The bathroom is spacious with great counter space - hard to find that! Hot water seemed endless. Water pressure great. Refrigerator is new and huge (good for holding my 30 days of meals). Wifi never faltered. Sitting out back under the mountains is so peaceful. Easy in and out. I loved the individual bedroom/bathroom heaters that work quickly and efficiently, and I could set them how I wanted the rooms warmed. I could walk to anywhere in Silver Gate. And Marcia is the ultimate hostess! She is so knowledgeable about everything in the area. Ask her anything. I recommend this home as highly as I possibly can.

This home in Silver Gate was a perfect base for our family to explore Yellowstone from the Northeast entrance. Marcia is a very gracious host & met us at check in to go over the home & how everything worked. She made great recommendations on things to do both inside & outside the park. It was an amazing trip that our family will not forget. We loved it!!

After talking about taking my kids to Yellowstone for many many years I don't think I could've found a better place to stay. The home itself has an amazing feel to it and outback you get an amazing view with the sounds of a crystal clear creek runs through the yard.Marcia herself is an absolute treat. She was extremely kind and helpful and even gave the kids going away geodes because she's just that sweet. Great home and a great person behind it

We loved our stay in the cabin! There are 6 of us in the family and there was plenty of space to enjoy ourselves when we were not out exploring Yellowstone. Marcia was a wonderful host and had lots of great tips and recommendations for us and even lots of communication prior to arriving too. Our trip to Yellowstone was supposed to happen last year, but because of the flooding, we rebooked with Marcia for this year and so glad we did. It was fun exploring both Silver gate and Cooke City when were weren't in YNP. We loved that the entrance was so close and driving through the Lamar Valley to see all the wildlife was fantastic! Highly recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed.

I cannot say enough about this rental. Marcia was great to deal with; communication was responsive and informative. The house itself is perfect for those visiting Yellowstone Nat.'al park, esp.if you want to be close to the wildlife rich Lamar Valley. Marcia was always helpful as to things to do, places to eat, and always notified us of local wildlife sightings. If you get a chance and want a nice place to stay.....rent this house!

Unbelievable Trip
What an unbelievable week we had on our first visit to Yellowstone! It was the forty something parents and 2 teenagers! Marcia’s home is a true gem, and if there is the perfect place to stay near the park, this is it!!! Quiet, quaint, and friendly is how I would describe Silver Gate and neighboring Cooke City. For the teens, there is Wi-Fi for night. But the great thing is, when exploring, there no cell service or internet, so we get to unplug! We saw wolves, moose, grizzlies, goats, big horn sheep, and everything in between. The wonderful thing is, most things were seen within a 10 minute drive from the house in Pebble Creek and Soda Butte on the way to Lamar Valley. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the location of this home. It is away from the hustle and bustle and crowds that we saw in other areas of Yellowstone. One thing I would recommend….plan to cook food in your cabin and have picnics during the day. There are several places to eat, but Miners Saloon was the only one that was delicious. Marcia’s kitchen is amazing and has everything you would need to cook inside or outside while having a nice view of the mountains. The locals in this area are very friendly and helpful as well. I can’t wait to go back later in the year so Marcia can show us how to catch some cutthroat! Thank you for sharing your family’s home with us. I know it is very special to you as you have been visiting for over 20 years in the summer. We appreciate you sharing this place with us!

It was amazing!
What a great home to stay in for visiting Yellowstone. And Marcia (the owner) is so awesome to work with. She even assisted us in setting up our plan for the week. She made us feel like family. She knows the area for 3 decades. A subject matter expert on this region ! Her caretaker of the property (Guy) is great too! Asked us if we needed anything every time we saw him.
The home has everything you need. Very comfortable bed, great shower, and great kitchen too. Has a 2nd bedroom if needed. And a 2nd bathroom. Washer and dryer are like new. We found that the furniture being a bit dated was perfect for a cabin like feel. All very comfortable and everything you need. We felt like we were camping in the woods, but with having all the comforts of home.
Even better is that the home is only a mile from the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park (2 minutes). And it is only 15-20 minutes from the most amazing part of the whole park, Lamar Valley. The northeast section of Yellowstone is only 10% of the park, but 50% of the wildlife are there, we had read in a book preparing for our trip. What we saw was living proof of that fact. Dozens of herds of bison, numerous elk, several bears (black bears and grizzlies), foxes, pronghorns, and we even saw a few wolves. Everyday something different….no two days the same.
It was remarkable trip, and the best vacation to date. Our 3rd time to Yellowstone, but previous two times were from Southern entrance. This northeast section is much better, we felt.
The restaurant and stores in Silver Gate were awesome! The store with ice cream next to the home is the best ice cream ever. Get the Moose Track ! The small cup is larger than any large cup in Cincinnati.
We also enjoyed all the restaurants 3 miles away in Cooke City, and the General Store in Cooke City is a Historic Site from the 1800s. Amazing!
We flew into Billings Montano and drove the 68 mile Beartooth Highway (Hwy 212) to get to Silver Gate. Most amazing 68 miles you will ever drive. It is one of the grand parts of the vacation.
We will be back ! Highly recommended! Our best vacation to date. We can’t wait to come back.

Charming cabin in perfect location
Wanna see the amazing wildlife of Yellowstone without waking up at 4:30am and driving two hours through the park? You need this spot! Seriously in the heart of Lamar valley within 15 minutes. Wolves, bears, moose, bull elk, buffalo. We saw it all….while sipping the coffee we had time to brew before we left. Perfect perfect perfect location. Silvergate is a delightfully quiet town with very friendly people. The cabin has everything you need. It was clean and quiet. The back patio had the most amazing view, and the fireplace was great. Having a full kitchen for cooking was a nice respite from the less than desirable fare offered in the park. We brought a collapsible cooler in our luggage, picnicked in the park and cooked when we got home. The owner was so friendly, helpful and communicative. Perfect family vacation with our two young kids (4 and 6). We will be back!!!

Silver Gate Cabin
Stay here. Location, location, location. Relax in fly fishing Mecca. As close to Yellowstone National Park entrance as you can get. Soda Butte runs through it! Quick access to Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone when park fishing is off. Mountain view from deck is amazing. Walk a block down the road for huckleberry ice cream, trout and wild game dinners, beer and wine. Our 5th stay.

Not a good experience
Property was dated but well supplied. Upstairs bathroom was filthy- I had to clean toilet and shower floor. I took pictures but they are too gross to post. Owner was nice - but- we have rented over 100 different cabins and have NEVER had our space invaded like happened here. We went to breakfast and came back to the house to find the owner sitting at our dining table working on her computer. I was furious. She lives next door and said her internet was not as strong as the rental so she decided to come into our rental when we were not there. She was trying to set up a power booster - end result was my husband ended up trying to help her for almost two hours. He is that kind of guy. The back yard patio is not really private - the caretaker lives in a house about 20 feet away. If you are looking for a good location to the park this place is great.

Awesome location
My family and I loved staying here. It was so close to Lamar valley and other must do stuff in Yellowstone. Large enough space for my kids to play around and get some energy out. Great owner and very knowledgeable of the area and she makes you feel at home.

Excellent homelike accomodations
My family attended a family wedding in Silvergate. The location was everything we needed and more. We enjoyed an encounter with a moose and her calf over morning coffee, at a safe distance, of course. The lodgings wer very comfortable and homey. The kitchen had everything we needed. One of the unexpected bonuses to our trip was our renter, Marcia. She was a wellspring of knowledge and kind and gracious at every turn. We look forward to another stay in the future.

Very Disappointing - not as expected
Upon arrival, the owner who stays next door came over and removed a blanket from behind the couch that she said she thought something had been chewing on. There were ants throughout the cabin. The fan on the stairs did work and was very dusty. The upstairs was extremely hot and uncomfortable for sleeping at night. The washer did not work and the settings were reversed with hot water on the cold setting which damaged our clothing. Only one load was washed because of this and this was specifically something we needed for our group. There were several places throughout the cabin not sealed properly with open holes in the sheet rock and repairs needed. This cabin was not ready for renters. We ended up leaving a couple days early due to the heat upstairs and being very uncomfortable. We opened windows and used fans constantly but it did not cool off until 3 or 4 am. Claim that air conditioning is not needed is not correct. Beds were extremely uncomfortable as well. Advertisement of WiFi is not completely honest as it is shared between several parties and extremely slow. The owner came over at 9:30pm one evening to tell us this and to limit our use. We were asked not to use it for a period of time on one of our days so the owner could conduct an online appointment. We were glad to accommodate this request, but this should be disclosed in advance to renters. Upon expressing concerns of these issues, we were not assisted properly at the time and later told the heat upstairs was our problem and the washer worked for her. The dishwasher has to be run on light cycle only and it does not get the dishes properly cleaned. The location close to the Northeast entrance is the only advantage to staying here. We will not return to use this cabin again.

Perfect cabin one mile from NE Yellowstone entrance
My husband and I stayed here for a week while we visited Yellowstone, and had a truly wonderful experience! The cabin is beautiful, spacious, and immaculately clean. Fully stocked with everything you could need. The owner, Marcia, is a delightful person who goes out of her way to make sure the stay is special. Silver Gate is a charming little community, and very quiet at night. The cabin is just 20 min from Lamar Valley where we saw all sorts of wildlife. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, and hope to return next year.

40th Anniversary Getaway
The owner is a fabulous communicator and was very gracious in all communications! I think for us, the location was perfect…great access into the Lamar Valley and the Beartooth Pass Hwy was a glorious scenic drive. Several places to get good food and the best ice cream next door. The people we met were all warm and welcoming, the only downside is if you’re physically handicapped in anyway, probably not a good fit, bedrooms are all upstairs. If you want to go fly fishing, this is the place for you.

Nice comfortable mountain cabin
Wonderful cozy home where you can stretch out and enjoy the amazing views of Silver Gate. Easy access to the park and surrounded by an assortment of unique shops. The neighbors are top notch and the owners of the property are wonderful to work with. We will be staying here again!

Great Stay in Silver Gate
We had a great stay in Silver Gate! The house was clean. It is about 20 minutes from Lamar Valley but it was quite a bit of a drive to the rest of the park. There is also no internet service and the WiFi is not very strong. Those are items that are out of the owner’s control though. One evening there was a bison right across the street! Silver Gate is a beautiful but very small town.

Home condition lacking but great location and good people.
Mountain view window was filthy...could only see out of top 1/2. Fan needed to run 24/7 in living area to keep from overheating.
Snuff tobacco can and plastic cups used for spittoon left under night stand in queen room. Queen bed squeaks loudly everytime you roll over. Wifi instructions did not arrive until we were there for 3 days! NO CELL SERVICE, large open areas in drywall in laundry area and kitchen(extra large hole under cupboard)..Water had to be turned off after using washer due to leaking faucet., No propane was available, Several outlets in kitchen did not work, Never did find the dvd player.. Furniture in living area, except for dinning room table, is in poor condition. Owner and handyman were helpful with travel directions and taking care of some of the problems. People of Silver Gate and Cooke City are wonderful! Could only give high rating if location is your only concern.

Large, older log cabin very close to NE entrance to Yellowstone
This is a comfortable older cabin, with dated , well used furniture and appliances (refrigerator was newer). Owner lives in attached apartment, was talkative and helpful.
We rented in anticipation of seeing NE area of Yellowstone, which was wonderful. We were pleasantly surprised to be right on Beartooth Hwy, which is said to be one of the most scenic roads in continental US, and it lived up to it’s reputation!
We enjoyed the local trout dinner, and truly exceptional tomato soup at the tiny cafe 2 doors away.
The only drawback was zero cellphone reception (the owner provided free use of a phone in the cabin, on a line shared with her. Her calls would also ring in our cabin). Internet is provided, but is extremely slow, and wouldn’t work at all if you tried to operate two devices at the same time.
We would rent this house again, should we be in the area.

Quiet getaway
The house is very comfortable with lots of room to spread out. We had a lot of gear, so it was nice to have room for it all. Marcia adds some thoughtful touches like providing Kleenex, (many rentals don't) tons of trash cans, and ice in the freezer ready for cocktails on arrival day! The washer/dryer were especially appreciated after having been on a 4 day camping trip. We enjoyed the peaceful back porch and benefited from Marcia's fishing expertise. We will definitely rent again when back in the area.

Loved everything about our stay
This was the perfect place to enjoy a family vacation in Yellowstone. We were so close to the Northeast entrance of the park and the amazing wildlife viewing of Lamar Valley. Marcia the owner of the house had so many tips that helped us plan our days. She knows the area very well and is willing to share all that knowledge. You know it is a great place to stay when your kids don’t want to leave and they ask when we will come back. We will definitely stay here again when we return in the future.

Back again to Silver Gate
This is our second year staying at the Woolman's cabin. The proximity to the park entrance is incomparable. This year we stayed later in the month and did need to head out early in the day before an unexpected snowfall began. Interacting with Marcia is a pleasure and she is responsive to any issues that may arise.

Perfect Base Camp For Lamar Valley
For my wife and I, this was the perfect place to stay, right outside the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. We could be at the park entrance in 5 minutes, and entering the Lamar Valley 15 minutes later.
Although there was room for several more, this gave us room to relax after a day of fly fishing or animal watching, with all the comforts of home.

Cozy and fun
Our family stayed 4 nights in mid August. We enjoyed everything from Yellowstone, to the cute town of Silver Gate! Best ice cream right next door. Super friendly people. The home was a great fit for the 5 of us. Especially the kitchen. I prepared all our meals there with ease. The water is the best we ever tasted! Beautiful views! We even saw the most amazing thunderstorm. Marcia was helpful in answering all my questions before our trip began. I recommend this place!
