Friendly staff , great location , nice bar , comfortable room

Close of perfect stay. Location is in the old city but not a main artery which makes it very quiet. Triple shield windows, king size bed, meaning a great sleep at night. Very clean. Feels like you are in the mountain somehow. Real floor heating. Staff speaks a little english and are very nice. There is a bar/ restaurant downstairs that close at 2am in case you want a refreshment.

Only the shower faucet hot/cold water was reversed, but that doesn't matter much.

Excellent location in the heart of this city. Very clean apartment with no noise at night.

Great location in a popular pedestrian shopping/lifestyle area near to West Lake. We stayed in a family room (two double beds) and it was huge, with a mezzanine area with a bathroom and one of the beds upstairs. The decor was very chic and modern.

There was some construction noise nearby that started fairly early in the morning. The toilet also smelled strangely of cigarettes when the extractor fan was on. Breakfast in the cafe downstairs was just so-so. If you're travelling with heavy bags, note that the nearest place to get dropped off in a taxi was around a 3-4 minute walk away.

Wonderful, comfortable and clean family room. Breakfast was just right to start the day. Lovely location by the drum tower and a short walk to West Lake. Staff spoke good English and the ayi was so lovely and tried hard to make our stay a nice one. Thank you.

Our stay at Cheng Zhai was great! We stayed in the family loft - which was more than enough space for our little family of four. The furnishings were beautiful and the room overlooked the bustling Dajing Alley with plenty of little boutiques and cafes to explore. The pedestrian avenues from the Drum Tower up to the Hefangjie (I think it's called) were so lovely to explore. You can also easily walk up into the park to the City God Temple for wonderful views or rent a share-bike over to West Lake within a few minutes. If you are a coffee connoisseur, the cafe below the hotel had wonderful roasts - they really know what they are doing! For this hotel, you check in across the street at the Hostel but your rooms are in the same building as the cafe.

This is not the quietest of areas - my family and I had no trouble sleeping, but if you are sensitive you might want to keep it in mind. The trade-off of being so central makes any noise worth it in my opinion. 8 AM breakfast was a little late for our family as we are early risers, and it didn't always seem like they were operating at full capacity until about 9. As mentioned the coffee accompanying the breakfast was wonderful - it would be great if the coffee was available in the room!
