Rude staff

Although it was within opening hours thereception was unattended when I attempted to check out. The phones weren’t answered. I tried several times between 9:00 and 11:00am on the Monday. The outside bins were overflowing and stinky. The kitchen was dirty. My room was rudimentary and looked okay at first glance but a closer inspection showed it to be quite dirty and dusty. Right on the Cairns Esplanade with a lovely clean pool, a large room, aircon, laundry facilities, kitchen & only a short walk to a bus route, to take you to Cairns City & Cairns Central, which is a large Shopping Centre where the trains for Brisbane & Kuranda Railway arrive & leave. Buy a multi ride ticket from the local Bus company to fully enjoy your time in Cairns. Thanks to Zenon (the host) for a most enjoyable stay. Also to "Bagus" the Indonesian restaurant at the entrance of Caravella, who serve the most yummy food.!!

We were overwhelmed with the manager going above and beyond for our situation.

Very large room with own bathroom. Having a little fridge in the room was also great. Located right on the Esplanade, just a 10 min walk to the night market area, so it is out of the hustle of the main Esplanade area. Hostel common areas light and open; very quiet.

Nothing.

Nothing the place was disgusting.

It smelt so bad, cockroaches everywhere, the aircon didnt work, it felt dusgusting did not enjoy this place at all. And it felt dirty.

The room was clean.

There was no staff available when we needed them. The combination email wasn't sent when we were told it would be. There were window slats missing in the bathroom, meaning there was no privacy and I needed to put a towel up at the window.

The location is excellent and the staff were friendly.

The room had an awful smell in it upon arrival (musty/urine) and the towels provided were old and smelled terrible as well. The bathroom could have been much cleaner.

The rest of the room was clean floors, no dust, fridge, bathroom overall ok. We did like the location as it was close to the places we needed to walked to (marina, Woolworths and restaurants) The aircon worked well. It was a cheap place to stay.

Unfortunately we weren't all that happy with our stay. First of all, we only found out after booking that the free airport shuttle doesn't run anymore. Which is fine but this is currently still advertised on booking.com as well as their actual website, so false advertisement! Secondly, even tho I assume towels, pillow cases and sheets were cleaned, both had stains on them which was not very pleasant. Also an old soap was left in the shower. The community kitchen is very poorly stocked, there is no cups, no spoons, no bowls (we had to buy everything at Woolies on day 2 as we had already bought our cereal and coffee, which we couldn't use) Then we were told the reception our are 7am till 3pm which wasn't the case it was literally just not open at all. We left for day tours every morning at 7.15am only to have a voice mail at around 10am to come to reception to pay! In an email they then told us reception hours are 9am-11am, but even on our checkout day at 9:30am NO ONE was at reception for us to check out.

The room was an old style yet it was clean and spacious. The air conditioning was a nice treat. There was a fridge in the room. We had a reasonably comfortable bed and it was sized as in the advertising for the reservation. There was a small table and a sofa in the room as well. The swimming pool was well-kept. Staff were painting the hostel to freshen the look.

They provided a table with only one chair, although the room was set up to accommodate 3 people. Covid caused some disappointments (no fault of Caravellas) - no staff at front desk on weekends, no tour desk for bookings and we were hoping for more socializing but the hostel was very quiet.

No reception for guest enquires etc

The staff was super kind, helpful and gave us meal deals and an upgrade on the room. Very appreciated. The room was very big and there was everything inside (hairdryer, little soap). Wifi with good speed. Good value for money and location is great.

The 2 kitchens were not equipped enough e were a bit dirty. The room was nice but the bed a bit uncomfortable. The whole hostel seemed not looked after. The shower had low water pressure and the walls were thin so we could hear people from the other room.

Everything

Clean, comfortable beds, plenty of room. Great Restaurant directly opposite and waterfront and park. Also great food available from Restaurant at front of property but not open every night.

All power points not operating and night manager a little reluctant to deal with it when we arrived at night and suggested he would sort it in the morning but we explained we needed power then and he did make necessary calls and all was fine within 15 mins.
