We had an excellent stay at Hopkins Bay Resort, we can’t wait to return with family and friends. The resort is on one side of Hopkins so away from the busyness but close enough to get into town by bike or golf cart (would suggest renting the cart if you want to go to Jaguar Reef). Food and drinks are excellent and reasonably priced, staff is amazing and so accommodating, and accommodations are exactly as pictured. Even though our villa was not on the beach, we woke up to an amazing view of the ocean from our balcony. We went during off season so very serene, quiet, and peaceful. We basically had the resort to ourselves. Also, we only stayed for a few days, as we split our vacation between Hopkins and Caye Caulker, but we made the most of the few days we were there. I would suggest the Garifuna Cultural Tour, Driftwood for drumming on Tuesdays or Saturdays, catching ghost crabs at night at the resort, and watching the manatees at The Dock Bar (at The Lodge on Jaguar Reef). Thanks to Manuel, Shaq, Velene, Timothy, Chavis, King, and Wilbur for your hospitality and making this an unforgettable vacation!
Our stay at Hopkins Beach Resort was excellent so no cons! Just FYI for those traveling to Belize in late October/early November. We went during rainy season so there were puddles and standing water, which made the roads a little challenging and the grounds a little soggy. Yet, we were prepared and brought rain gear and nonslip, rain resistant flip flops and sneakers so the rain didn’t slow us down at all. Also, make sure to bring your bug repellent!

Great value and the food was excellent.
The patio chairs need refinishing, and there needs to be a bit more light along the walk paths, especially for rear door entries.

The proximity to the beach and ocean was perfect. The pool and pool bar/restaurant were awesome! I loved the rooms and balcony! Offering complimentary bikes to borrow was one of my favorite things to do! I biked to the village twice a day, every day!
I don’t believe they had pool/beach service. No one came out to me the entire week; but I didn’t ask anyone either.

The breakfast was excellent many choose!
The location was nice and relax!
We didn’t know really how is Belize for us nothing to much to do we are more adventurous!😊

Spacious accommodations with comfortable beds. The view from the room was very nice and most of the staff we encountered were very friendly. The Rhum Shack food was pretty good.
Lots of little bugs (no see-ums and ants) in the rooms, in the bathroom, in our bags, in the beds leading to LOTS of bites. There are signs in the room about keeping doors and windows shut, which we did, but these are everywhere. Service was mixed, some days were great and responsive and others we had to repeatedly ask for things like our room water to be replaced. Ocean in this area is murky water due to proximity to two rivers making it less attractive for swimming. Due to the locations of the pool (wind and sand from ocean breeze) and the sea grass on the beach, there are workers around you all day cleaning pool and raking beach endlessly. You will always have a worked within 10 feet at the pool or beach. Grateful for their hard work, but kind of stinks to always have people lingering.

The front of house staff was very helpful and they were amazing. However when I checked in I was not inform of the construction happening on the villa next to me. I checked into a room that had caution tape around it and no one took the time out to explain why the tape was there. Furthermore I got into the room open the front door and there are some group of men working on the roof of the villa next to me. It would’ve been professional to inform guests of this before they check into their room. To be honest the place looks a bit abandon. It needs proper landscaping and it’s maintenance.
I didn’t like that there were people that didn’t sleep the entire night that was staying downstairs from the villa I was in.

If you love bugs, this is the location for you!!!
If it wasn't for Teo, the General Manager and his security crew, helping us I'm not sure what we would have done. They were a blessing!!
4.3
Quiet, short distance from the village.
Property next to a vacant lot where sargassum maintenance was not done, which caused the odor to be worse than normal next to our Villa.

Great location on the north side of Hopkins right on the beach. We got a free upgrade to an oceanfront room which was AWESOME. It was super easy to get to the restaurants and such in town either by bicycle or by the complimentary shuttle they offer. The staff are extremely friendly and take the time to get to know you by your name. The stuffed fry jacks were our FAVORITE and we got them every day for breakfast. The food was very good overall at their onsite restaurant (The Rhum Shack). It was also easy to set up reservations for tours/excursions through the resort and they were offering a “special” resort credit at the time we stayed which we definitely utilized ($500 credit for $400 & $200 credit for $180). As a side note- make sure you go to Nice Cream in town for ice cream if you visit Hopkins. It was THE BEST.
We had an issue with ants when we arrived, but they took care of that right away when we let them know. We didn’t have the issue again until the night before we left. I threw mango peels in the trash and overnight there was a large trail of ants from both the living area door and back door to the trash can. Luckily our room was separate from the living room/kitchen area. You just can’t leave anything out or they will get to it.
The only other negative thing is that the excursions/tours were more expensive when we booked through the resort versus doing it ourselves or going with a different company. The special resort credit they were offering is the reason we went with them though.
As a sidenote-the Sargasm (seaweed) was washed up in large amounts onto the beach and in the shore, so we couldn’t go into the ocean from their beach. You’ll find this pretty much anywhere along the mainland though and it’s not this resort’s fault. They had people working and shoveling it out on our last day though so they’re at least trying to keep it contained.

it was big and spacious and right on the beach

The food was very good. There is no beach. There is a lot of seaweed that washes up daily, but that is pretty common. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The villa is 20 years old, but has been maintained great. You can hear the ocean waves all night long for sleep. There were no vendors bothering you on the beach, which is nice compared to islands we have stayed at.
The location is 2 hours from any excursion or Belize City. If you want remote, this has it. There was entertainment only on Sat. night. We hoped for additional days. There is no pool bar. The pool was kinda chilly. The wind was extreme and it made it impossible to kayak or paddle board during our stay. That may have just been a coincidence. The sand is brown and rough.

The rooms were nice and the staff was great !
The food was good most days . But one day, for lunch, the chicken was way overcooked. Other than that, it was great.

Beds were so comfy and having the two pools was great. View from the rooms was amazing.
Little over priced for the stay and at the restaurant. We also had a large cockroach in our bathroom… this was the most expensive place we stayed in Belize and the only place we saw one ironically.

rooms were nice, and pool was nice but that’s it.
it had one restaurant that was out in the open, so during humid & hot days, you were sweating at you ate & the bugs surrounded your food. flies hovered all around our dinner every time. The sewer line backed up in the room underneath ours so it smelled like sewer one day. They said they couldn’t move us to a different room, and they gave us an air freshener to use only. 2 days later, we are lying in bed & these bugs appeared out of nowhere on us & in our bed. They continued to get worse, as they were all over our room flying around & landing on everything. we go downstairs to see where they could be coming from & the whole entryway was infested with them. We went to the office to inform them and they just brushed it off as they were normal. It was 8 pm at night & too late for us to go anywhere else. They once again refused to move us, and we had to wait another 2 hours at night for the office manager to come clean out all the bugs out of our room. We were so tired & just wanted to go to bed , but she made us sit outside on our balcony while she sprayed bug spray & Lysol all over our room. This place was by far the worst place we’ve stayed in Belize. The beach was unusable d/t the sargassum that they didn’t rake up. The odor was unbearable & EVERYTIME you drove in & out of the resort it smelled like sewer. We ended up checking out early & they told us we would be refunded but we’ve received no refund or response so far.

The room was very nice.
The restaurant and bar was disappointing. Asked for certain drinks, their response was "we dont sell that". Asked for food on the menu, "we dont have any". Bartender was not attentive. We had to leave the facility to get food and drinks.
