Access the onsen at the nearby hotel. Shuttle ride from train station.

The property was far away from the train and bus station. Even taking the bus for 28 stops, I would have had to walk 1.5 km. There was no food available in the area. I tried booking dinner at the restaurant but they were booked up. Hence, we were offered a noodle bowl for additional amount. The property felt like an annex from the hotel.

The rooms though dated were quite large! The biggest I’ve personally experienced in Japan. The Bath House portion was also fantastic. The night I went I had the hot bath with cool rain falling down. The view was a grand misty forested mountains.

The wifi was only in the lobby and I had no cellphone reception. Therefore, come with the idea of disconnecting with society.

The access to the partner hotel’s facilities was the best part of the property. The onsen there was absolutely stunning with gorgeous views of the mountains around the area. The property itself suited our basic needs and was very quiet. The value we got for the rooms and access to the partner hotel’s facilities was great. The staff were extremely hospitable. They even provided free shuttle service to the train station.

The rooms had some stains on the walls but were generally clean. The shuttle times were not convenient and had to be planned around.

Great location, lovely onsen, shame we could not have dinner in the main hotel.The room was warm, traditional and we loved the provided kimonos and wooden slippers

We were the only guests in an empty building, away from the main hotel, with Internet in the large empty lounge area, which was a bit weird

The room was spartan but adequate. The onset and relaxing room (in the attached facility) are excellent and above expectations. We liked the feeling of been in the middle of the forest and we are used to futon beds. We were not surprised that there was no food available at the hotel, hower coffee, tea, fridge and microwave are provided.

The futon were quite humid and we needed to dry. The shuttle service is available only few times a day. Make sure you get it

The staff was very kind. The onsen in the ryokan is beautiful. The room is Tokonamiso is large and thankfully has a toilet inside. The area is secluded and quiet. If we had been able to have dinner at the place I would've thought this was wonderful.

The onsen that is shown in the photos as well as the lounge are in the nearby ryokan owned by the same person, not in Tokonamiso. Tokonamiso has only rooms. This was a bit shocking as it was not clear from the photos. Though the onsen was amazing, there was a feeling the we were intruding upon the guests at the ryokan, as we were not actually staying there. Would've liked to be let known in advance the actual situation. Though the guests at the ryokan had dinner, we didn't even have the option to add it by paying extra. We had to travel all the way back to Nagiso to get food. No take-aways anywhere so we had to stick to 7 Eleven bento. View from the room was less spectacular than expected (mostly a small garden). The sink in the room didn't have soap, which was quite inconvenient.

- Beautiful location in the mountains. - Although I had a booking made a day before arrival, fortunately there was a (one choice - wagyu stew) dinner option. Breakfast (one choice as well - grill) was also available. - There was a shuttle option from and to Tsumago and Nagiso, please make sure you get in touch a couple of days before arrival as you won’t get instant replies. - The use of the onsens in the hotel opposite of the road is free and definitely recommended - so nice!

- no breakfast options (I only found out after sitting at the table and having to pay - it is quite expensive!) - my question about the shuttle availability was only answered 45 minutes before planned leave - I already had to decide to use another way to get there (so I walked; it is a nice 2 hour walk feom Tsumago through tiny villages!) - the walls of the room are not isolated. Fortunately my neighbours went to bed early, but if you’re not that lucky... (and they weren’t even talking very loud, but I could hear them very well)
