Nice room once we got it. Nice breakfast and great high tea. Kamal at the high tea was excellent
Lovely cocktails
Arrived at 3 and was told our room was ready, but when we got to our room it was still being cleaned and we had to wait until 4 to get our room. Very sloppy. The staff at the door were constantly looking to be tipped which was unpleasant

Une rénovation générale est vraiment indispensable. Hormis le coté historique de l'établisement (indiscutable) le propriètaire ferait bien de passer dans le XXI siècle (on appel ceci le capex dans le métier).Vu le prix (250$) la nuit de faire payer l'expresso au petit déjeuné est un peu mesquin!

A step back in time! A historic venue, full of old world charm! Amazing gardens, wonderful staff, delicious breakfast too! Definitely worth a stay, at least once!

The amazing history and wonderful decor. The cleanliness and how it is maintained. It is a magnificent building and has adapted to the modern day without ruining any features.
Service for the afternoon tea was so below par - we constantly had to ask for tea etc.
It would be good if there was an adults only time to swim as children dominate - even in the bar area there is no getting away from children.

One of the most ancient buildings with its sprawling gardens, its location so close to the city, the upgraded rooms were spacious and clean, they have many restaurants serving different cuisines, very exhaustive and delicious breakfast.
One of their USPs is their hi Tea that’s curated to one’s likings and served in an interesting way.
Every room of the hotel is so beautifully designed and decorated that you feel you have reached those ancient days but yet it’s modern and well maintained.
Last but not the least I have to mention the very caring, friendly staff
The General Manager Mr Suresh Abbas , Mr Saman Udagama who went out of their way and saw to it we had the best time ever !

fantastic colonial hotel with lots of English traditions. ground were immaculate and service was very good. the room was comfortable and it was lovely to find a chocolate birthday cake for my mums celebrations. the Thai restaurant was delicious - would recommend for an evening meal. breakfast buffet had plenty of choice.
the spa was a huge disappointment. despite the signs saying silence and to expect a “tranquil” experience - we found children playing fighting and screaming in the pool which made it far from relaxing. we were unable to use the pool for this reason which was a shame.

Beautiful traditional building with the best High Tea ever! The gardens where amazing! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. No request was too difficult. Very patient. Bar staff were EXCELLENT at making cocktails. Great prices for cocktails. Excellent local tours including an unexpected impromptu guided tour around the township where unexpected hidden jewels were found.
The water pressure in the shower was poor and we couldn't get any hot water for a shower so we were very uncomfortable and extremely quick showers.

It’s the old British hotel from times past and it’s in excellent condition. It’s within walking distance of the main part of town. The atmosphere is lovely and the meals were terrific.
I guess they think it’s nice to have you sit in the reception area and be served tea while they take their time registering you. At that point we were not in that mode, and just wanted to get to our room quickly. I could have easily taken my luggage to the room but had to wait for them to deliver it 15 minutes later. I don’t mind tipping them - I just don’t want to wait for my luggage.

Everything was fantastic - rooms were exceptionally clean whilst maintaining the heritage of the design. Food was great (but pricey), gardens and facilities were also very very good.
Prices are relatively expensive but clearly the best hotel in the area if not one of the best in Sri Lanka

Morning, it was quite after Saturday crowd. Suddenly, hotel was nice and well equipped. But you don’t see it with the crowd
Bad bathroom, not cleaned for ages, no view, just roof, couldn’t sleep as rain drops from tubes falling on metal roof the whole night

beautiful well-kept hotel with gorgeous cosy rooms. very clean. grounds and garden were beautiful. lively main restaurant. good buffet selection for dinner and breakfast. nice indoor and outdoor play areas for kids. lovely hill weather and refreshing get away from the heat of Colombo. will stay again.
some of the staff were a bit haughty and we had some misunderstandings with the hosts at the welcome wagon at the main restaurant. can be improved on. but in general staff were quite nice. gets very busy during weekend and holidays. when all the tables were full at the restaurant for instance, some of the staff quickly got into motion to go out of the way to set up additional tables for us. we appreciated it!

Amazing old-world hotel. Everyone in my family from the 3 year old to the 77 year old loved everything, from the playground and playroom to the immaculate gardens and rooms and the food. People complain about the bathrooms but they're adequate, just not very updated.
